Bio: Born Belgium 1989 February 16. Raised in the slums Fledger quickly became a master of petty crime by the age of 8. With no formal education only learning how to read and count the only thing he could rely on was himself and a gang of children. Providing for their leader and themselves it was a hard life though it had few fantastic moments.
Looking to expand his skill set he became an exceptional thief able to break into most stores and leave after scrounging an appropriate amount of loot before someone came to inspect the disruption. Learning the importance of only taking what you can manage and avoiding temptation he excelled far beyond his friends abilities.
With the leader of the group learning of his prowess Fledger began having more and more of his profit squeezed out of him. At the point where even the food he stole was taken away from him he made his first attempt to leave the group only to be cornered while trying to pack his belongings. With a savage beating he was forced to remain apart of the group and provide for them.
It wasn’t until he was 12 that he found his first opportunity to leave the dictatorship his child gang had become. Having a run in with the local mobsters as he tried to steal from the wrong people the criminals saw his potential. Providing him with money and a place to sleep Fledger found himself in the hands of someone else.

Continuing his acts of breaking and entering he was taught all the tricks of the trade from lock picking to how to fight. Though still at the mercy of a criminal boss his colleagues treated him with far more respect than his previous friends. Learning how to shoot sometime later Fledger was on his way to becoming a hardened criminal operative.
By 16 he was being trained alongside veterans stealing from high profile targets. Becoming highly proficient in the use of pistols and blending in to a crowd Fledger saw himself generating a large amount of income however this saw itself heavily taxed by the crime lords who gave him the opportunity in the first place.
Becoming close friends with the criminals training him and working beside him Fledger let slip his disgust with his position aspiring for more. Surprisingly the other criminals provided him with an out offering to let him leave with them after their next big hit. Agreeing without further thought the group planned the robbery then a procedure to disappear off the face of the Earth.
Quickly the last hit became the largest the crew would undertake. Preparing for a full year by the age of 18 Fledger was taking part in a robbery in a major bank. With a network of connections and planning activated he found himself behind the counter posing as a teller until the time was right.
Waiting till the end of the day the bank sat quiet as security went about their final procedures switching security procedures to those during close. With the time to strike rapidly approaching Fledger went about dispatching 3 guards before letting in the rest of his team through the back. The plan went like clockwork as no alarms were set or shots fired with the entire building secure.

Cracking the vault a recent shipment of valuables sat ready to be stuffed into bags. Excited Fledger and another of the team crammed bags full of loot while the other six watched over the perimeter hiding away from windows. Giddy with excitement at the amount of money they were about to get away with the two stashing the goods couldn’t hold back their laughter until a gunshot shattered the bliss of the moment.
Shocked by the sudden turn the lead of the crew ordered them up front as a firefight broke out in the building. Finding his way into the foyer where rounds flew through the air they found themselves under attack by criminals from the mob they intended to escape from. With such a fight breaking out in the middle the city a massive police response followed leading to a 3 way gunfight.
Losses mounted quickly as each group failed to assert control over the situation. With the firefight turning desperate Fledger and the man helping him pack bags fled into the sewers running for miles before crawling back out into an alley out of breath. Unsure how many survived both men agreed to go their separate ways in their attempt to be forgotten by the world.
Looking for suitable cover Fledger found a mercenary looking for members for a team. Taking the opportunity immediately he set out to hide amongst the battlefields still raging until things calmed down enough for him to enjoy his hard earned spoils. He found himself surprised by the quality of the men he found himself working alongside though and became roped into more and more operations with them.
Working alongside competent soldiers who later became good friends he set about trying to be a better soldier while providing invaluable assistance as a specialist operative able to break and enter while also being able to maintain a cover for espionage purposes earning the nicknames Bootleg and Agent. Quickly he became an irreplaceable service within the squad giving them the edge on intelligence and for the first time in his life became apart of a team where he had no fear of it’s internal politics.
Entering the exclusion zone he found his mind immediately assaulted by susurrant thoughts. Creatures of the abyss made a connection with him after being knocked unconscious by one of the fallen. Their melodies promised such power and revelation that proved too much even for his ambitions. Keeping his regressing sanity to himself not to demoralize the others he could only hope to leave this place before his mind left him first.

Post War Rules
Life on Torus Terminal is usually fast paced, but simple. A frontier Terminal has little room for easy living, but the great, circular station does boast shopping and culinary experiences from many Imperial races and cultures. Any star is, by its nature, extremely far from its neighbors. But laser highways, and the great shimmering sails of the light-rider spaceships make the trip into only about ten years. Still, the denizens of Torus Terminal eagerly await the day when the Anti-Euclidean Engine their station is built around finally comes online. Once that is done, they will have unfettered access to the entire Empire. Instantaneous travel and trade across hundreds of stars. Torus Terminal does boast one other oddity: a creature which calls itself Human. As he says, the last of his kind for now. He has made quite the life for himself on Torus Terminal, especially in the darker corners of the station. The elites of Torus Terminal praise his name, for once he took up arms, crime began to fall. What they did not realize was that was because he had claimed the seedy underbelly of Torus Terminal for himself and his own goals. The elites praise him as a paragon of law. The criminals fear him as a ruthlessly clever crime boss. Those closest to him, know him as the General. This story was originally posted on the Humanity Fuck Yeah subreddit, where it evolved from a simple play on a historical figure in a science fiction setting into a full blown space opera. I kind of took it as an opportunity to explore a setting I've had rolling around in my head for years. I also decided that it would be nice to have it in a place where I could more easily come back and edit it later, so I'm reposting it here. Here's a link to the original posting if you're interested: https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/comments/e9cwpl/post_war_rules/ If my genre and tagging is subpar, let me know. I'm still new to Royal Road and I'm open to help. Feel free to comment and make suggestions, or discuss. I love comments, and so long as we keep things civil I also love criticism.
