Bio: Born in Ukraine 1993 June 15 the country was already in a deep recession due to the Chernobyl disaster. With his family of a brother, sister, mother and father falling into poverty all 3 children did their best to support the family. Artur’s eldest brother at 12 years had managed to find a job in a bakery while his sister aged 5 looked after Artur in his infant years as well as doing the housework. Even though the family scraped by they managed to do so while maintaining their home life.

6 years old Artur was already fed up with how they lived and strived for more telling his family that one day he’d find the money to buy them a nice house. While they tried to drive the reality of the situation into Artur’s head they entertained the possibility that maybe one day he’d achieve something greater and fueled his ambitions supporting his wild dreams rather than crushing them. His sister regularly antagonized him over his ideas to tease him but always told him if he tried he could achieve anything.

Artur and his sister developed an especially strong bond as he tried to fight off other children that harassed her and she tended to his bruises. Though the family was close as a whole Artur and his sister were the main driving force keeping them together as their older brother sought out greener pastures in the army to support the family. This proved to be a poor decision as it only supplied enough for himself and pittance to give to his family while being locked into service and unable to provide for them otherwise.

As their parents became increasingly worn down by day to day turmoil of working far too hard for the same stale loaf of bread Artur began taking interest in gangs of children so he could steal to provide what his family needed. His sister as a result spent the meager savings she put aside for textbooks on candy to bribe her brother to stay out of trouble under the guise that things weren’t so bad if she could afford to buy treats for him.

At the age of 12 Artur’s sister fell critically ill. Barely managing to put together the money to see a doctor the cost of the treatment required saw her stoically accepting that her death was rapidly approaching. Wrought with grief and anger as the surrounding community refused to help and without his sisters guidance Artur turned to a life of petty crime to pay for her treatments. Through sheer determination and dumb luck Artur was able to put together enough money to get his sister on a basic treatment plan.

Though his parents always questioned where the money came from they never punished Artur for his actions in that they knew without his help their daughter would surely die. As such Artur continued to make connections with the local children gangs and eventually working for one of the criminal syndicates in the area running equipment to dead drops. By the age of 16 he was in charge of bookkeeping and a competent fighter from surviving bloody conflicts with other criminal syndicates which occur regularly due to the police turning a blind eye.

At the age of 18 Artur spent a night with his family including his brother being able to afford time off from the smuggling operation. During dinner his both his parents and brother admitted a crushing guilt that Artur had to rely on such methods to keep their family afloat which Artur waved off with it just being what he saw as what he had to do. Later in the evening walking through the streets with his sister who stopped for breath due to the scars inflicted by previous illness Artur apologized for not having done enough so that she could make a full recovery.

His sister simply laughed and told him that she’d never been more proud to see someone make something of themselves. Upon asking whether she questioned how he’d achieved supporting himself and family she simply replied that while she was concerned for his safety she didn’t care so long as he was happy.

Sitting on a cobblestone wall she began painfully reminiscing over how she always dreamed of going to university to become a scientist and study the zone, even if it were just a few blades of grass to see the effect the wasteland had on it. Now with her scarred lungs even if she could afford to go she wouldn’t be able to venture out into the zone. Turning over what his sister had told him about her dream Artur made a life changing decision.

In 2011 pulling some strings Artur acquired some basic equipment to defend himself and discovered a group of outlaws friendly to the syndicate to work with. Upon entering the zone Artur found himself ill equipped, ignorant and unprepared for the zones horrors even at the border. In trying to leave the corrupt members of the army failed to mention they refused to smuggle people out of the zone and almost shot Artur on the spot.

Unsure as how to proceed Artur eventually rendezvoused with the outlaws he was assigned to meet. In only a few days the men proved themselves to be hardened criminals who could keep Artur alive as well as take his life at any moment. They killed without remorse and eventually turned against the other outlaws in the area making profit only for themselves. Artur however managed to survive their company and spent every free moment away from them taking samples of plants, catching strange bugs and even finding the discharged fragment of an artifact.

Each finding Artur would carefully package and list the potential hazards as best he could while writing a letter to his sister. Sending the packages through the corrupt soldiers he never knew if the packages would ever reach her or even leave the zone. Artur continued though as it became his driving force for survival even when he began to forget the purpose of sending the packages. The reason became more faded every day as his letters became less frequent. One day in the same year he forgot entirely why he was sending the packages. All he knew was that it was what he lived for. To send these packages to the address he wrote so many times while his companions made shadier deals with the wrong people in the zone.
