《The Digital Dungon》Chapter 7

The lightning arcs between the two pillars. Each bolt seemingly a different color than the last. The symbols light intensifies and changes to match with each bolt that strikes. I notice one lighting bolt freeze, instead of dissipating, after it hits a pillar. Then another and another, each strike of lightning lingers in our view. The weave of electricity is so thick that I can not see the other side of the doorway. The light of the pillars brightens once more. Then this weave starts to spin but not in any one direction. On section of the design spins clockwise while another part connected to it spins counterclockwise. The design continues to break into sections and spin. Yet, not one of the parts disconnects from its neighbors.
Cal and I look upon the portal as more sections form before they too start spinning. Then, the parts break more, spinning in new directions. Over and over, this happens until, finally, the weave shatters like glass. I look past the pillars, but there is no cave as there was before the construction. I examine the portal, and a new message appears.
Congratulations on the creation of your new Digiworld.
The pillars light fades. The symbols still have a slight glow to them, giving the room some much-needed light. I guess I can see in the dark, or at least I am not hindered in my dungeon. The two pillars, or archway, is made of a metal I have yet to encounter in my digging. Each one is split into eight different color sections. Orange, Blue, Red, Purple, Green, Black, Yellow, and Pink. They rise three meters before arching and connecting at the top by a thicker plate of the same metal. An etching of a powerful looking beast fighting a winged being is on the section.
"What kind of metal is this," I ask Cal. They fly up to the pillars getting a closer view, bobbing back and forth from the left and right before giving me an answer.
"This mettle appears to be Chrome Digizoid," they say. "It is a scarce and resistant digital metal. I doubt any creature born of this world will be able to damage this digiportal."
I continue to focus on the portal, yet no screen pops up as before. I decide to stop when I notice a blinking symbol in my view. No matter where I look, it is always in my sight. The emblem was almost round, but each corner indents toward the center. Two circles are inside, with some of the writing from the portal in between the two. A black square is inside the final center.

Should I see what it is,, it might be dangerous. Although this is the first time, I did not get a new screen whenever I did something. I did get the message through. The symbol does intrigue me, unlike what most of the system has done so far. I continue to struggle for a few minutes yet, my curiosity wins. I focus on the symbol, and my second new message of the day appears. This one, surprisingly, not encompassing my view as the first had. Digivice Activated. A simple statement until the screen I have been waiting for appears.
A window, to be more precise, is what I am looking into, but more complex than anything I have seen so far. To the left and right is an additional window. Both split into three sections with words greyed out. In the center are pictures of different terrains, with words at the top asking me to choose the zone type.
"Cal," I begrudging get my dungeon fairy's attention. "I have a new screen, something about a digivice. Can you explain what that is, and anything on the screen." I wait for Cal to respond. A minute goes by, then another. Finally, after about ten minutes, I yell their name. Yet the damn thing does not answer me. I close the digivice screen and move my viewpoint in front of their face. I mentally squill at what I see. Cal's pretty green eyes are now pitch black. What looks to be letters are moving up at a rapid pace. Yet their eyes are moving side to side. I wait, I don't know how long, but I wait.
"What's going on?" A gruff voice I have never heard before questions. "I heard a yell. So, I came to check if there was any trouble."
I look over to a pink creature in the tunnel leading deeper into my dungeon. It is a 25 centimeters ball, with two long ears sticking out of its head. Two large red eyes scan the room. Its mouth, taking up a large section of its body, is held in a scowl. My mind freezes as the creature hops into the room.
"There is no trouble," it states. The dreadful eyes look toward Cal. "Is everything ok?"
The question is unusual. Why would it ask as such, if it was here to harm us? I notice that it continues to look about the room after the question. Shaking my mental fog away, I focus on trying to pull up its info. Hopefully, I can get a clue from this screen.

Name: Pit
Species: Koromon
Class: Dragons Roar
Level: 1
AP: 0/1000
"Pit," I let slip.
"Yes, boss?" the creature looks at my viewpoint.
"What happened to you?" my mind races. Pit was a Botamon last time I saw him. Now, he is a Koromon.
Pit's eyes scrunch, still not staying focused for long. "I assume you mean about how I have changed. I evolved into a Koromon not too long ago."
Evolved, ah, I remember Cal talking about a change that Digimon goes through. The fairy must have been talking about evolution. I look at Cal; their eyes have not changed back. A feeling I can not place blooms in my chest, but I ignore it and focuses back onto Pit's new attribute screen.
Class Dragons Roar Health 25 Mana 10 Strength 5 Stamina 3 Wisdom 2 Speed 3
All of his attributes, except for mana, increased. I still need to find out what the different point affects, but that can wait for later. I read the species screen next.
Koromon: A tiny Digimon that shed the fuzz covering its surface, and whose body grew even more substantial. As an in-training stage 2 Digimon, it has gained a greater understanding of how to battle.
Yes, PIt is capable of defending my dungeon now. I bet that when the AP finishes filling, he will evolve again.
"What's wrong with Cal?" Pit asks.
"I do not know," I look at Cal. "They became like this while I was busy with something else." The words that were scrolling through their eyes was gone, yet the color has not changed back.
Thinking, I decide to ask Pit about the digivice. If this is part of my dungeon, then he will be fighting in the space.
"Pit, if you could choose your battlefield, where would it be?" I ask as I pull up my digivice screen. Surprisingly he does not take to long to answer me.
"I would choose a forest," he begins. "There are plenty of places for both traps and ambushes to fight large groups. Yet, forests also have clearings for honorable duels between warriors."
That is good enough for me. I select the zone that appears to be a forest type. The center window changes to a top-down view, a sprawling forest takes up the whole window. I look at the side panels, and the words have unlocked. The first on the left pane is Terrain. Next, Items followed by traps as the third. On the right is Digimon, then adventures. Sadly, the last word is grey.
I click on the terrain panel. The forest window changes from a full three-dimensional landscape, to a flat drawing. The panel changes to include pictures of rivers, caves, mountains, and other terrains. Before I can get into the window any further, I hear Pit call to me. I close the window.
Two bright green eyes stare at me before a light encompasses Cal's body. Their body grows in size, stretching to become taller. Her arms lengthen as the hands grow more fingers. Her legs also grow, adding to the new height. Two wings burst from her back as some brown cloth substance wraps around the hands and feet. Blond locks fall from her head, and a green bow pops on top. As the light fades, she brings her hands together, forming a glowing red ball in between her fingers. Slowly, she pulls her hands apart, causing the ball to be elongated and thin. She grabs one end of the light spear and swings it to the side with enough force to shatter all of the light around her.
A light skin creature floats in my view. Cal's blue eyes are shining with intelligence and determination I never noticed from her before. A green shirt covers her chest while a matching one covers her hips. A golden bell is hanging from her neck. Gloved gauntlets cover her hands, claws on each of the fingers, and boots with a spike sticking from the toes. She carries a red hooked spear, that she used to break out of the light.
"I just got a whole shit tone of information for you, Ygg," Cal states. "An upgrade to my knowledge would be more precise."

Saga of the Jewels VOLUME ONE COMPLETE
Prefer to listen to rather than read Saga of the Jewels? I'm also releasing it as a free audibook serial podcast on iTunes here! Epic YA JRPG-influenced GameLit progression ensemble-cast steampunk romance fantasy! When Ryn’s hometown is destroyed, will he be able to gather together the twelve Primeval Jewels in order to defeat the evil Emperor and save the world of Mid? A fan novelization of an amazing Final Fantasy game that doesn’t actually exist, that currently releases at least one chapter a month. Epic in that this will be very long. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint!” (-Kandaj) YA in that this should be enjoyable to~13-year-olds and upwards. Some gore, some swearing, some sex, but nothing more than PG-13. JRPG-influenced / GameLit in that it uses lots of JRPG tropes, particularly from Final Fantasy. I’ve read a lot of fan Final Fantasy novelisations and you can basically think of this as a fan novelisation of its own Final Fantasy game that doesn’t actually exist as a game... Progression in that the characters level up over time (though not with visible litrpg stat boxes). They grow in ability through training and experience, gain new skills, individually and as a party (think Chrono Trigger) and spend time discussing and stratgeising about how to defeat their opponents. Main protagonist from book three would definitely be able to defeat himself from book one! Ensemble-cast because we've got quite the roster of misfits here. The first volume is all from the main protagonist's POV, but it starts dancing between his and different POVs thereafter. Steampunk in that we’ve also got airships, steam trains, pistols and ambiguous ‘amber bars’ that function a bit like artificial lights… Romance in that there is lots of shipping here, a few love triangles, and you may be kept guessing as to who will actually end up together... Fantasy in that we’re in a vaguely pre-modern setting. We’ve got swords, magic, dragons, dungeons, monsters, all that good stuff. * "This story captures that Final Fantasy quality perfectly. Kiddy but also grim. The characters are great... Severely underrated and needs more favorites/follows. I look forward to seeing how this story will unfold." -Gilgamesh9999 "Starting at the end and jumping backwards is not a writing style seen every day. I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical at first, but you've executed a fairly crazy idea very skillfully so far. Overall, a strong start to what could be a very strong story." -RandomFF.netUser "You definitely have my interest piqued. It'll be interesting to see where the story goes... It definitely has an 'old school Final Fantasy' type feel to it, which I appreciate...Good job! I am glad you are going into more details about the story you laid out in the prologue...of course the big burning question is 'You know they lose in the the first chapter, so how will they end up winning?' That of course, is the story you're writing...so we'll see how it goes! #Following." -KyleQuicksilver (quotes are from reviews on other sites) * If you enjoy it, don’t forget to boost Saga of the Jewels on topwebfiction.com!
