《The Digital Dungon》Chapter 1

“So, your name is Calumon?” I question the fairy.

“Yes, it is. What’s your name?” Calumon questions as its ears flap to keep it aloft. It stares at me for a few moments. Am I suppose to make up a name? I mean, I am a gem and all. I don’t know what kind, so maybe I just choose. I continue to be quite contemplating what I want my name to be as Calumon eyes narrow and ears flapping slows. “If you don’t know what it is, just open up your dungeon screen.” The fairy drops to the ground in front of my core.

“What screen?” I question the fairy.

Calumon waddles to the dungeon core. “The screens are how the system that runs the world, allows sentient creatures to see and choose their abilities and powers.” The ears shrink into the fairy’s head until only the purple tips on the end are seen as they begin. “They tend to be blue or light blue when they first appear. You should have seen at least one by now.”

I notice that my core glow brightens as the realization hits me. “Wait, do you mean those evil boxes that only go away when they feel like it?” I begin, my voice rising as I feel the beginning of another mind-ache. “I will not be doing anything that has to do with those awful things! They are a nuisance I can live without!”

Calumon sways back one step, eyes bulging at the cores comment. “The screens are not a nuisance” The fairy starts. “They are a helpful tool all sentience use, gifted to us by the gods of our world. Why would you ever think such nonsense?”

The gods created it as a tool, bull-shit. The only thing it has done is annoyed me. Even after what I have already told this creature, they still don’t understand my frustration. “I was awoken by those ridiculous screens. Then, the damn thing would not go away until I destroyed my home so that you could show up and convince me that it was a good thing.” I grumbled back at the dungeon fairy.

“Of course it was a good thing,” Calumon’s states in a lighter tone. “How else would you learn how to use the system if no one taught you. Yeah, you could learn by messing around, but that would take an unnecessary amount of time. I am here to guide you on what exactly you can do. For that to happen, though, you have to open up your screen to tell me your name. I will not be calling you dungeon or core forever.” Calumon pats my body with a small three-clawed hand.

I grumble to myself once more as the patting happens. I would like to know my name. They seem interesting; maybe my name will be ‘Dungemon.’ That would probably annoy Calumon. I would enjoy this outcome, but having to mess with those boxes once more could cause more problems. “Do I really have to use the screens to find out my name?” My voice begins to pitch a higher octave. “Can’t you just give me a name to use?”

“No,” Calumon says. “The system that produces those screens, we will be utilizing impacts a lot of other projects. I don’t understand your fear, but you will need to get over it quickly so that we may continue.”

“Fine, how do I open the screen,” I ask.

“Well, all you have to do is think about opening up your status page,” Calumon says.

I took a deep breath or at least made the sound like I was. Then thought Status. A new screen appeared. This one is still blue but more transparent than the first two were.

Name: Yggdrasill

Race: Core

Class: Dungeon(Digital)

Level: 1

Aura: 169pts

That is a lot less information than I thought would be on this page. Calumon made it seem like I was about to have some fantastic info dumped onto me. “Ok I have it opened, how do I close it,” I question the dungeon fairy.

“Tell me your name first,” Calumon says while folding its arms. “That is the whole reason you opened it.”

“This irritation states my name as Yggdrasill,” I comment. “Now, how do I close the damn screen.”

With the thought of wanting it gone, the screen vanishes.

“Not yet,” Calumon began. “I still need to explain what’s…”

“It’s gone,” I cut Calumon off.

“Well,” the dungeon fairy quietly began. “Open your status screen up then!” Calumon took a deep breath as I do what they ask.

“Ok, I can’t see your screens, so I will assume that you have it open.” The fairy states. “I am going to tell you what everything means.” I put all of my attention on to Calumon. Surprisingly, doing so is harder than it sounds. I did not realize how scattered my vision has been. I can see all of my cave, every angle.

“You have my attention; how does all of this help me?” I ask.

“Ok, your name is Yggdrasill. That is the easiest to understand,” Calumon starts. “That name is too long, so I am going to give you what others call a nickname. I think Drasill is a good one, no, Ygg. Yeah, I like Ygg as your nickname.”

“Only if I can call you Cal,” I counter.

“Of course you can. Now we both have nicknames,” Cal responds with a bright smile. Well, that did not go as I had planned. I can’t take it back now, not with that smile.

“You should see race and class as well,” Cal questions.

I respond with an affirmative.

“Those are easy to explain. Your race is what you are born as, While your class is what allows you to use the powers and abilities you gain.” They begin to pace around my gem.

“What are the powers and abilities you keep speaking about?” I ask.

Calumon stops moving. “I will get to those in a little while.” They state before continuing with their pacing. “Your Level is how much aura you gain passively per day. Aura is essential; it allows you to cast your powers. You won’t have much of it at first, but that will change as adventures come through your dungeon.”

So I need aura to use powers. I have 169pts. That could be a lot if I only get one a day. “You said I would get some from adventures. How,” I ask.

“That comes down to powers,” Cal says. “Whenever an adventure uses their powers in your dungeon, they will release aura that you will absorb into your core.”

“Why would they come into my dungeon for?” I don’t understand; this does not make sense.

“We will get to that later when you are building the dungeon,” Cal responds. “There is more we have to get through before then. You can close the screen. Open up your powers screen. You can examen the power that you have.”

Calumon did say I was going to have powers. I think about power the same as I did when I opened up my status screen. Another blue screen appears in front of me.

Powers Cost Summon Digiegg 5 Aura pts Create Digiportal 10 Pts

“Oh, I have two powers,” I tell Cal.

“Wait, What” Cal tries to say.

“The first is to summon digiegg.” I examine the power closer. “Summon a random digiegg. Well, that’s not helpful.”

“Ygg, what do you mean two” Cal tries to get my attention.

“You did say to use the power. It only cost 5pts, so I guess I can.” I activate the power of Summon Digiegg. A pulling sensation comes from my core, as light appears a meter away from Cal and me. I find it similar to the one that summoned Calumon. This light dies quicker than the first, leaving an egg in its place.

“Ygg, what do you mean by two powers. You are only supposed to have one.
