《Sand (Hiatus-2/01/18)》Chapter 8: Some Rewards? Awesome!

“I’m… fine. Thank you mister!” The boy couldn’t get over what he saw. This person used less than reputable means to take down the two hooligans. The first person was taken down by a surprise attack and the second was done in by fast attacks aimed at the universal weak points of the human body, or at the very least, a man’s body. Even so, he felt gratified for the man saving him.
“It poses no problem.” Tus answered boldly and then asked, “Why were they chasing you?”
“I’m sorry mister, but that is tied to my Family, and they would kill me if I answered. My name is Fifth Rul, may I know yours?” The boy became very serious before politely asking his own question. The response of Tus surprised him.
“My name is Tus Gilgar.” Besides answering the Fifth’s question, there was no other reaction, causing surprise in the latter. “Is there a place that you can go? I’ll escort you there.”
Fifth pondered for a moment, “Do you know where the Golden Flame is, mister?”
“Actually I slept there last night and I think I can find my way back.” Tus replied in a manner less than confident, making Fifth show a face full doubt.
At that moment, he closely studied Tus’s attire, and he came to the conclusion that he was some kind of high class servant. ‘Perhaps one of the Golden Flames’? That can’t be it.’ He thought to himself. His green eyes mysteriously glowed as Tus lead the way.
After about twenty minutes, miraculously Tus and Fifth stood in front of the Golden Flame, causing Tus to have second thoughts.
“That was easier than I thought. Maybe after dropping off this kid, I can leave this city and head to my home town. Even if it has been 200 years, there might be something left for me. If my grandparents are still alive... At least this thought gives me a bit of hope.” Tus muttered to himself. The real reason, might actually be that he is scared of the fellow humans he has associated himself with recently than what he said.

“Mister, you have awesome memory!” Fifth exclaimed in a child-like manner.
“Of course!” Tus puffed out his chest and boasted, “I have the capabilities of navigating the grand seas for thousands of miles, the endless great sands to their abstract boundaries, and the sky piercing mountains that threaten humanity with insanity. For a little city like this, I can read it like the back of my hand.”
“You are amazing!” With the previous occurrence of beating down the threat and finding this inn that counts as a needle in a haystack in this complex metropolis (unless of course they asked someone, which neither did), Fifth’s impression of Tus could be considered to be high. “Mister, if it wouldn’t be inappropriate, I want you to become my personal servant.” He asked with large eyes.
Hearing this, Tus broke out in a sweat as he felt a pair of scary eyes land on him from somewhere. He hurriedly replied, “Well, I wouldn’t mind doing so, but I’m afraid I would become stew by my captors, I mean friendly peers!” After saying so, the feeling of the gaze disappeared.
“Is that so?” Disappointment filled Fifth’s face, before it brightened, “If that is the case, then take this.” Fifth handed a card to Tus which was yellow bordered with the green writing of ‘Rul.’ “All you have to do is bestow a drop blood onto this card and I’ll immediately be able locate you if you choose to become my servant or if you need help. Oh, I need to repay you with something. Here.”
Fifth took out a circular wooden piece that had a center symbol of an open hand. Around the hand, at the tips of the fingers were different words such as ‘general ‘knowledge,’ ‘plants,’ ‘animals,’ ‘voice,’ and ‘hear.’ The piece itself appeared as though it had aged a thousand years and was ready to turn into dust.

“Mister, this talisman will aid you in identifying almost anything that is known to my Family. From what I’ve read from you, you don’t seem to know anything besides unfair fighting skills. Just place it against your forehead and direct your attention to anything, and you’ll receive a description of that. I was given this as a study tool, but I have already activated all of the contents and memorized them, so I don’t need it anymore.” Fifth showed a proud expression after stating so.
Tus was amazed as he really needed something like this, but felt complicated. He took it and said, “Thank you Fifth. Although I helped you, you don’t really need to give me anything.”
“I know.” Fifth said. “Half of my Family’s power pertains to knowing people, or at least knowing whether or not they’re good. I’ll have to give you my farewell now. Remember to contact me if you want to reconsider being my servant.” He then walked into the inn, guided by one of the attendants.
Looking at this, Tus thought, ‘This Golden Flame is for the rich and well connected. I’m now a little curious about Rul.’ Tus glanced at the Talisman, ‘At least my morning was fruitful. I now have good knowledge of the city, so I can escape if need be, and now with this… I should test it out.’ Before he could do so, a casual voice said, “You shouldn’t get too involved with them.”

Warhammer 40,000: Mind over Matter
Set in the Warhammer 40k universe, but accessible to those unfamiliar with the setting. The Imperium of Man has been fighting the Long War for ten thousand years. It is a war fought simultaneously across thousands of stars and against innumerable enemies. On smoke-filled battlefields and in the cold emptiness of the void the military might of the Imperium stands strong in the face of horrifying foes. It is not a war fought to conquer new lands, or to seize the wealth of enemy nations. It is a war fought to hold what they have, or to regain what they have already lost. The world of Nova Iberia is far from that war and supports the Imperium by sending her finest sons to foreign stars to fight and die as elite commandos in the Imperial Guard. A chance discovery on the corpse of one of these commandos has cast doubts around the world's loyalty, and has drawn the attention of the Imperial Inquisition. The seekers of the Alien, the Heretic and the Daemon have descended upon this peaceful world, and they will not leave it intact. Primaris Psyker Amelia Lafayette was a ward of the state, now bound as an acolyte to the Inquisition in recognition of her telepathic gifts. Techno-Heretic
Eli is an ancient man sentenced to death for the crime of surpassing the sacred number of 32.8, which is the allowed percentage of increased mental ability from the use of AI chips. As he journeys through death and into a world of fantasy and magic, he finds himself approaching never before seen heights of magical power and ability. Powers that will shape the world and would see him go down in legends for generations ever after. But just because someone acquires magical abilities, that doesn't mean magic is suddenly the most important thing in their life. Some people aren't looking to be all-powerful gods, have the world bow at their feet, or spend their days obsessing over accumulating ever more power. Some people just want acceptance, stability, and the warmth of their loved ones to drive away the cold loneliness of the night. And in a world where magic is the bedrock of society, where magic is what determines who is preferred for siring children, where people with high magical ability are destined to live in great luxury and those without magic simply live to make due, this difference in values and perspective could not have a starker contrast. As Eli and the people around him navigate the misconceptions and deceptions of this world, he will represent a great and magnificent future for the human race. One where humanity will stand above the elves, dwarves, orcs, fairies, and all the horrors of the world. Sadly, men's tools are as fallible as the people who make them, and in a society where the potential of an individual is determined solely through their magical level, this seed of promise may yet turn venomous.
