《World Integration》Chapter 18: The First Prelude to a Disaster

At the brink of midnight, when the moon has fully settled to the centre of the sky. With the temperature dropping well below 16°c and sometimes dropping well below 0°c the freezing point, as a layer of thin ice started to form on the ground and pavement.

And so on the eastern coastal regions of Ireland, near the seashore lines and beaches of Ireland, wisps of black smoke began to rise slowly from the ground and beach sand.

With the ocean waters near the beach area turning almost completely pitch dark because of the black wisps that are release off from the ground.

The ground began to rapidly shake back and forth, as the intensity of the black wisp that are released from the ground is intensified. With the dirt and soil gradually giving way, thereby revealing something solid unravelling from beneath.

A withered old hand that had gone through the weathering of ages, as all of the flesh had either been eaten away by the maggots or rotten away in the soil, whilst leaving behind nothing but ancient bones.

A black wisp of smoke then strongly permeates throughout the old skeletal hand, thereby causing it to be strung with a newfound sense of life. As it filled with dark ominous energy, it possesses a mind of its own as it started to viciously claw itself out from the ground.

First, it was only the 'skeletal' hand that showed up, then the arm was unearthed from the ground, covered in dirt and soil.

And finally, the entire upper torso of the strange creature was unearthed from the ground, thereby revealing the identity of the strange creature to a corpse dating way back to the middle ages time period.

The reanimated corpse was wearing armour that resembles a Viking's combat attire, due to the spangenhelm helmet-like design, which is often associated with Vikings. And not many known European civilisations, during the medieval era, would add horns to the side of their helmets to give it a more savage look.

And most of the metal parts of the armour have since been affected by rust or almost completely covered in an entire layer of rust, which is slowly eating away at the metal.

The leather has already deteriorated, with much of it having already been reduced to nothing. And what has remained is completely darkened tan leather skin, completely covered in wears and tear, scratch marks, and uneven surfaces. With large or small patches that are missing.

But strangely enough, some of the dirt and soil moulded together with the black wisps of smoke and stuck to the reanimated corpse's skeleton, forming in a strangely odd shape and way that it has somehow resembled flesh and simulate skin.

A sort of face could be seen forming underneath the Viking helmet, though it is incomplete. It does somehow resembles a realistic person to a certain extent.

Silvery white hair began to sprout from right underneath the Viking helmet, forming a head full of hair and a long manly dwarf beard.

The reanimated corpse then gave out a large warcry, as it roars loudly with its seamless non-existent lungs.

Two burning orbs of blue light then appears in the empty eye sockets, which is fueled by the individual's intense desires, ambitions, hatred, and regrets when it was still alive.

The reanimated corpse is in actuality a Draugr from the Scandinavian saga literature and old Norse mythology folklore. An undead creature that has been self-reanimated by their own animus, which persists with the body after death.

It was almost impossible for a Draugr to form and be born naturally because of the seal that was placed down by the Old Gods in the Old Era, which somehow sealed the existence of magical creatures and those with supernatural abilities.

So after the second Ragnarok was initiated by {Loki, the God of Mischief and Chaos} the seal was thereby broken and lifted.

A rich abundance of spiritual energy and mana that was sealed away many millenias ago by the Old Gods is now rushed back and saturating the Earth, thereby transforming the Earth's inhabitants and giving them powers.

"Arise!" The Draugr said so with a ghastly hoarse voice that permeates the air, and anyone that manages to, unfortunately, hear It, would undoubtedly send chills running down their spine.

As almost instantly after the sound of the first Draugr's voice was heard. The ground began to rupture, and gave way, as more Draugrs began to appear out from the ground.

And soon more than a couple of thousands of Draugrs began to appear out from the ground, as they literally almost filled up the entirety of the eastern coastal region area of Ireland. With some unlucky percentage of Draugr managing to rise from beneath the ocean waters.

The Draugrs can not die from drowning as they are already considered dead, and are not that part of the world of the living.

And only high ranking Viking warriors or experienced fighters of the army have managed to revive as Draugrs' that somewhat regain their human looks that resemble from when they were still alive. Whilst, the other low ranking Draugrs are made up of entirely bones, lacking any sort of meat exterior or skin.

"Kaptain Asbjorn (Captain Asbjorn)!" A female Draugr then emerges out from the army of a couple of thousands of Draugrs, accompanied by those of the same rank as hers.

The female Draugr stood a head shorter than the presumed leader of the Draugr Viking Army. With locks of pale blonde hair then sprouted at top of her once bald hair.

She wore a light chain mail vest over her long sleeves ragged clothing attire. Whilst carrying an aged longbow within her left hand and an ornamental bow quiver upon her back, housing a couple of sharp-tipped arrows.

And around her tight waist is a pair of Damascus steel Viking daggers. Though it is worn down and somewhat rusted with age, it is still possible to cut some flesh and pierce the skin with the dull Damascus steel metal blade.

Female Viking Warrior does exist, and quite often from time to time, appear prominently within the Viking Army. Though they are not as physically strong as a male Viking Warrior who is placed predominantly on the frontlines where most close-range combat will ensure.

The Female Viking Warriors are prominently known for their support in the back lines, and doing other household chores like cleaning and cooking. But there are some Female Viking Warriors who learned the art of archery, shooting the target enemy at a long-range safe distance, which does not need for a close-up confrontation.

And if there is a need for a close-up confrontation with an enemy, the Female Viking Warrior is trained in the arts of dagger-wielding.

It is completely different to a male Viking Warrior who predominantly utilises their overwhelming physical strength and large stature to cut down their enemy with a heavy steel broad sword or battle axes.

"So how is our army, Solfrid." The leader of the Viking Draugr Army said, whilst calling out the name of the female Viking Draugr that is standing right next to him.

Solfrid then said, "It is assumed that more than half of our original army has become a Draugr, but to what extent do they their consciousness and skills of combat of when they were still alive. I do not know."

"What should we do know?" Another Viking Draugr of similar rank to Solfrid then spoke up.

Asbjorn, the leader of the Viking Draugr Army then took his time, seeking a suitable answer to his subordinate's question.

He then thought to himself, 'What's there left for us to do within this world when we are already dead. And so much time must have passed whilst we were dead, that everything we need knew is now gone.'

Images of Asbjorn's family and friends then briefly passed through his mind, as the visual image of his wife then appears withinside his head. However, her beautiful face was slightly distorted, becoming almost undiscernible by some unknown force.

'I've literally forgotten the face of my wife. The most important person within my life.' Asbjorn was slightly disheartened by it all.

"Captain!" Asbjorn's subordinate then calls out to him.

It was then the unsettling feeling of hunger, an unsatiable desire that existed predominantly in all undead has seethed out and spread to his entire being. It affected his judgement and decision making, starting to cloud his mind.

"We will pillage the world of the living, and then loot what was rightfully ours. In order to satiate our undying hunger, bring about being reborn as a Draugr, we will consume the flesh of the living and make their strength ours." Asbjorn shouted, whilst raising his old rusted Damascus steel Viking sword into the air.

And just like a flowing wave, the moment when Asbjorn ended his speech, the risen Viking Draugr then raises their steel sword into the air and cheered.

The sound of the Viking Draugr roaring then echoes throughout the seamless night, as the entire eastern regions of Ireland is soon to about to experience bloodshed.
