The next day

Ron went to the gate connecting the two realms to see Ellie off.

As expected, Ellie didn’t look exactly happy as a person going on a vacation. Ron could tell that this was the work of the enemy controlling her.

“Are you really sure you don’t want me to go with you?” Ron tried to confirm once again.

“I’m sure.” Ellie replied listlessly.

“Okay then.” Ron said as he pushed for Ellie to go.

“Bye.” Ellie turned to say goodbye before she walked into the gate portal.

As soon as he checked that Ellie was no longer in the demon realm, he quickly called Kazuya so he could start trailing the girl.

Kazuya had planted some people to be stationed near the gate in the human realm already. With the call from Ron, he quickly ordered his people to start their plan.

Meanwhile at a certain district in Shinjuku

Rena was walking along the streets, hoping to find some clues on the enemy’s whereabouts when she noticed a familiar figure.

“Ryu…? Is that you?” Rena said as she stared at the back which as so familiar to her she could recognize even if it was mixed into the crowd of people.

Hearing someone call his name, the man turned back and saw the woman he had missed so much over the years but couldn’t see her because of his work.

“Reina?” the man uttered as a look of disbelief fell upon his face. Never in his dreams would he think that he would finally be able to see his wife. The organization he was working for had forced him to stay in the employee dorm and not return home. Of course, people with family like him had to stay apart with his family for years. In the contract he had signed, it wasn’t specified for how long he had to stay in the employee dorm, but it was stated that he was not to get in contact with his family and friends, in case their research details leaked out.

As there was a very high fee to pay if one breached any of the rules in the contract, he had never gone and visit his wife all these years. Seeing her look healthy and beautiful as ever made him teared up a little.

“It’s really you, Ryu!” Rena’s tears flowed down her delicate face. She had tried to find his whereabouts for so many years but no avail. She quickly ran up to him. However, Ryu turned back and started running away.

Rena was a little shocked but still chased after him. Being a demon meant that she had more stamina than humans. Not only that, she was of the beast men race and was really quick at running. She caught up to him in no time.

“Reina! We can’t meet each other! It’s a breach of the contract and I’ll have to pay a hefty sum! Just wait a few more years until the research is complete and we’ll be able to live together again!” Ryu said when he saw that he couldn’t run away. He then quickly grabbed her arm and led her to a quiet alley so that others wouldn’t see him breaching the contract.

“Research? What kind of research?” Rena asked. Maybe this would be a clue to what the enemy was planning!

“I can’t tell you. Anyways, we shouldn’t meet.” Ryu said as he tried to walk away.

“Why? Is it because of the organization you’re working for again? Do you know how long it’s been since we last met? You’re not going to even ask me how I’m doing?” Rena asked, feeling heartbroken.

“…” Ryu didn’t answer her.

“Do you know that your organization is actually evil? Do you even know who you’re actually working for and what you’ve been doing research for?” Rena asked, tears flowing down endlessly.

She had held it in for so many years, trying to get by without having a man to rely on. Seeing her husband just made her want to breakdown. Being constantly threatened by the enemy didn’t help make her feel any better too. The thought of the enemy playing around with her husband’s life made her feel despaired.

Seeing his wife’s tears, the middle-aged man felt guilty. It must have been hard for her all these years. However, he couldn’t quite comprehend what she meant by the organization being evil. He had been told that the research he was doing was for the better of humanity.

“Do you know how hard it’s been on me? Being constantly threatened with your life… I almost even killed my boss!” Rena cried even harder.

“You were threatened? By who?!” Ryu was confused as to why his wife was being threatened and not only that, she was threatened with his life! Did that mean that someone as targeting his life?
