《Conflicted Feelings》Prologue

I didn’t die. Shutting out all the sound around me, this reality finally sank in.
Unexpectedly that fact came as a relief, even though I myself rushed in the traffic to be killed. Not only was I alive but I wasn’t hurt either.
Looking across the room where laid the young dark haired man I stared dazedly as a man and a woman entered the place. The woman immediately went to the bed, giving the boy a hug with a teary face, as the man put one hand on her shoulder, seemingly asking her to restraint herself.
From where I was thought, I could perfectly see his red eyes as he too took in the state of the bedridden boy. The latter smiled at them and, gently pushing himself out of the overbearing hug, he said some words of comfort I believe, for I saw the worried gazes of the other two ease away slightly. A doctor went in too. Some words were said primarily to the two who were standing and after that to the one on the bed. Whatever was said had the three of them grinning, the woman smiling with tears running down her cheek and that expression of utter relief while the man was more reserved but squeezed the boy’s hand. The boy looked a little troubled but smiled anyway saying some few words of his own.
It was quite a beautiful family sight. The parents were now holding hands, the mother was leaning herself against her spouse’s chest with one hand gently rubbing her face and the other one was clasped in her darling’s hands. They were listening avidly as the doctor was talking. What a really loved child, a blessed one; to have some ones making so much fuss for him he was really, really treasured.

The young boy in question then turned his head from the side and our eyes met by the glasses windows. Surprise seemed to flicker in his then relief as he sighed and after that another emotion reflected in his eyes. I couldn’t quite decipher which one and I wasn’t really sure I wanted to. It was too faint to be hatred and too cutting to be pity.
I looked at my hands. They were red with light cuts all over. Now that I was concentrating on myself and not on someone else I could feel my palms stinging a little, reminding me once more I was still very much living. I had escaped the worst! But as I looked once again at the young man and saw the gypsums that imprisoned his left leg and his left arm I thought maybe I had been wrong all along.
It was him that had been injured. His leg and arm were fractured. He had looked so ghostly pale and his blood had had such a vivid red that for a time I had been unable to react.
Even now his face was still lacking some colors and his whole figure was presenting such a sorry state while I barely had any scratches, I understood that all these years perchance I hadn’t been the only one suffering.
But his surroundings contrarily to mine had always been full and loving. There was no doubt in me, he would be alright. He had always been anyway.
So it was time right?
And as I exited the hospital turning my back from my father, his wife and the young boy I had always refused to recognize as a brother, I realized that my feet had never been so heavy and my heart had never hurt so agonizingly.

A (Not So) Simple Fetch Quest
Oh great hero! The evil Demon Lord has once again arisen to terrorise our lands, and we have summoned you to save our people! No, we don't want you to fight the demon lord! Of course not; we're the good guys! What sort of good guys kidnap people from other worlds and force them to take part in wars that have nothing to do with them? That would just be plain evil! We'd be no better than the demons! Katie, after her summoning by an excessively loud mage suddenly takes an unexpected twist, is sent off on a simple fetch quest, with a promise that she'll be back home in five minutes at most. She doesn't even need to leave the building. Alas, when a goddess' blessing causes her wish for an actual adventure to be taken rather more literally than she expected, she finds herself lost in a dark cave, far away from the sword she was supposed to acquire and far too close to a population of giant bugs. Still, at least she wished her life wasn't in any danger. Among other things. Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it. This is a dark litRPG adventure, both in terms of Katie accidentally wishing all the lights out, and also in that she loses as often as she wins, often with horrific and disturbing consequences. Luckily, Katie isn’t the sort of person to let a mere grizzly death or two get her down, and is prepared to try, try and try again to get her hands on the holy sword and finally complete her ‘simple’ fetch quest. Or perhaps—with a few resistance skills under her nightie—she might even come to enjoy losing. Not that she’d ever consider forgoing revenge, even if she did. I’ve ticked all the content warning checkboxes for this one. There’s no explicit sexual content, but there are enough references to justify the warning. Profanity happens rarely, but Katie isn’t averse to swearing when she gets particularly angry. As for gore/trauma, it doesn’t get much worse than the first few chapters, but there will be occasional chapters that have extra content warnings.

In a time before the existence of the present, the gods decided to create a plane of existence where all their creations could exist in the same place. In it, all would be fair, and all gaps between races and technological advancements could be crossed with a single system that the gods had created. Every year, the gods would choose a new race to put in their land, and in this new group of beautifully unlucky people, Alen, his friends, and a few people from Earth have finally met their turn to be tossed into the playground of the gods. Unfortunately though, Alen was thrust into a forest of corpse-eating bears and horribly smelly undead on his first day, one of the many danger-zones of the continent the gods had chosen to throw them in. It would be easy to say that he simply died within the first day, or that he'd starved to death or whatever, but let's be honest... That story would be no fun to tell, yes? (Re-write of my first fiction with the same name.)

8 203The 900 lives
Sabela is an 18 year old girl who lived all her life away from civilisation, in a hut with, her father and brother, working day in and day out in the boring job of cutting down trees. However, she does not want to be a lumberjack for all her life. Her greatest wish is to become an adventurer in the guild of the Children of the Sun and fight against all kinds of evil monsters that threaten the peace of the Green Moorland. Sabela also wants to avenge the death of her mother, who was a Son of the Sun adventurer killed by the fearsome Monster King Maeloc. He is a sinister character who moves in the shadows of the Kingdom as he weaves an evil plan to end it up. A few days after her birthday, she defeats a monster that wanted to eat her brother in the forest. Sabela decides that she will become an adventurer. However, it won't be easy for her as she dies in her first fight. Fortunately, this is not the end of her adventure, because Sabela receives a gift from a mysterious force: 900 more lives, which she can use to become a legendary adventurer and put an end to the life of her mother's murderer, Maeloc. This is how Sabela begins her adventure, one in which she will meet allies such as Rodolfo, a somewhat snooty healer, Melinda, a bit irritating snotty wizard, and Laura, an art history teacher who doesn't know really well what she is doing in a fantasy world. Together, they will face a multitude of dangers, but the question is... Will 900 lives be enough for Sabela to defeat the evil Monster King?
