《Oddity》Chapter 2

I woke up to the sun shining through the window. I heard something. A little skittering noise? I decided to follow it, on my way I ran into Amaria again.
“Hi, hi, hi, hi Lunar!”
I jumped and screamed falling over. I see her flinch.
“Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry Lunar.” I slowed my breathing.
“It’s ok.”
She smiles at me, “What are you doing?”
“Err, nothing,” I said quickly.
I started walking away from her, “It isn’t your concern” I told her firmly, looking back at her.
“Oh, ok.” She looked genuinely sad. I froze in my tracks, against my better judgment, “Wait-” She turned to me and said, “Yeah..?” A million thoughts go through my mind, “I actual-”
“It doesn’t matter.” She smiled though it looked forced. She starts walking away. I feel an urge to grab her arm and make her come with me. What has gotten into me? “Amaria, Wait!” I reached for her arm, she flinches again. Why does she keep flinching? “I heard something, I was going to investigate.”
“Oh! That sounds fun!” She said brightening up, then her reaction changed to frowning. She said, “You probably want to do this alone…”
“Wait Amaria. I want your help.” Why am I saying this?
She brightens up, “Really!”
“Yeah…” I shyly told her.
“Where did you hear the noise?” She questions and I point towards the beach.
“Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!” She started marching towards the directions. As I followed behind her, I heard the noise again but it's in a different direction. I called out to Amaria, “Amaria- I hear it from this direction!” She looked in my direction, then we heard a slight noise, “Amaria time to come in!” She looked at me with a slight frown, “I have to go, Lunar. I will see you later.” She skipped off. Well, I guess it's just me. Why do I feel so disappointed? I thought to myself. As I walked towards the noise I heard it again, Another noise. In a different direction, I thought to myself, I ran towards it. I heard it again, the same direction!

As I got to my hideout I saw an egg!? I walked up to it and it seemed happy, “Hi, little egg. Are you what I have been hearing?” The egg shaked a little making it shimmer. It's a crimson red egg with specks of gold scattered around like confetti, except there was a single pure gold line down the middle. It’s so beautiful, it looks like royalty.
“How did you get here?” The egg stood still, “Well come with me.” I gently picked up the egg as it relaxes in my hand. I got second thoughts about handling this thing, I put them down and started walking out of the hideout. As I did, I felt a little weight on my shoulder, I reached toward the side, I felt it and it's the crimson egg again, “Little guy you can’t come home with me.” I put it down again and started walking away. Then I heard a little fluttering noise. I quickly turn my head but didn’t see anything. I don’t think I imagined the egg, did I?
I walked towards my home, starving, “I forgot to eat breakfast and lunch.” I said out loud as I continued home. As I stepped into my house I was overwhelmed by the smell of fresh, fruit cakes, roasted ham, lemonade, and of course my favorite fresh broccoli. “Yum!” I exclaimed, but it’s not just Alba, Amaria was there. “A-amaria?” I stuttered in surprise.
“What are you doing here?” I questioned. Alba answered for her, “Well you two were getting so, so close! I thought it would be nice to invite her for dinner!” I looked at Amaria and she had a huge smile. Ahh well great! I forced a smile at her.
After dinner was over I walked to my room and on my bed, there was a lump under my blankets. Examining the lump it shivered, I flailed myself backwards landing hard on my bottom. “What was that?” I shouted startled. I slowly go back to the lump and take off the blankets shaking from the startle. I caught a glimpse of this crimson round thing. I flinged off my comforter and saw the lump, “The egg?” I questioned, confused. I looked at it for a little while longer, “Crimson, gold specks, a line down the middle right.” I said as if I’m checking off a list. “That’s the egg?” How did you get in here!”

I looked around my room to see if there was anywhere where it could have gotten, “Where did you come from? I thought I should make you a nest, maybe your mum will come.” I told the egg. Grabbing the nearest thing I threw together a shoddy-looking nest and put it on the ledge of my window, putting the egg in it.
Darkness covered my eyes, like a warm blanket as I fell asleep. Slowly the darkness lifted as I was brought up into a dream. A field of golden cattails greeted me.
“Lunar, you must keep Ambrose or the egg,” an exotic voice as gentle as a daffodil called out to me.
“Why?” I followed the voice.
“Trust me. You will need him with you upcoming.”
“My upcoming?”
“Yes,” The voice seems to be getting further away.
“Who are you?” chasing after the voice
“With time you will know. Now go.”
“Wait-” I said but got cut off and my body jumped, That was a dream? Why was it so realistic? Should I listen to her? I pondered to myself. I looked outside and it was still pitch black and the egg was still there. “I wonder if she meant that the egg's name was Ambrose,” I said a bit loudly. The egg jerked up and turned, almost as if it was looking at me when I said, “Ambrose.”

Ouroboros Ascendant is a story about friends you meet on the internet, and then spend entirely too much time together hunting monsters, doing quests, earning experience, and risking your life. Except for Jack, Erin, Rory, and Layla, the video game they play together every Saturday isn’t nearly as real or as threatening as the primal world of Ayrgard. A mysterious force has drawn them across the darkness between realms for its own purposes, and they’ll need to survive monsters, politics, and a lurking threat they can’t yet imagine. In the interest of disclosure and ease of access, Ouroboros Ascendant features gay, bisexual, and straight main and supporting characters, and features elements of romance between some of those characters. However, OA is not a story about romance. If you're hungry for more chapters, there's always Patreon.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
