《Death of a Star》Captain's Log; 007. Dr. Katida Mariana

This morning I set out for the cockpit. The star hasn’t risen in the sky yet but I don’t want to take the lights in case they catch the attention of one of my crew. I’ve put up some obvious signs to show that my shelter is safe and that it’s mine. Hopefully while I’m gone someone will set up shop inside it. I’m leaving a note saying where I’m going. I have this feeling that’s eating at me. What if no one survived? I had to think about that a lot last night. I lost sleep because of it. I don’t want to imagine that I’m the only one on this abandoned planet. It makes me feel really small, especially in the screaming winds that shake and rattle the shelter.
I’m not sure how many hours I spent listening to those sounds. I spent a lot of time thinking about what I did wrong. I thought I did everything right. I had spent so many hours studying, learning from predecessors. I even spent an internship shadowing one of the greatest captains on the IronSiege. And I messed it up on a mission that wasn’t even supposed to have any dangers or obstacles.
I can’t get sucked into this hole again. I need to get across the crash site. I’m taking my log with me in case it’s needed.
I haven’t made it to the cockpit yet. I was intercepted. I hope the shaking in my hands isn’t limiting the readability of my handwriting. I set out in the early morning, before the light of the star was up. Snow was falling in large clumps and the wind was blowing it sideways. The chill was so violent I had to wrap cloth around the crack in my helmet to stop it from getting in. The survival suits are rated for much colder planets than this so after patching up my helmet I was fairly warm. As the red dot started to rise the storm got harsher. It got so bad I had to find a place to weather it out.

There are lots of little hovels that I inspected. I found a room that was mostly still together that I thought would weather the storm. The floor was covered in iced over blood, At the far end of the shelter was Dr. Katida Mariana. S s s
She is covered in shards of red ice, Literally stuck to t he ground and th e metal wall. I found another place to wait out the storm. I can’t be in there with her. It keeps haunting me. The ice preserved her injuries so perfectly. I just keep wondering. Did the crash and impact kill her or did she suffer? How long Did she suffer? How cold must it have been adn she couldnt call out or do anything but wait for death.
I need to go in and breaking through the ice to take her identifications. I can’t leave her here like this Some part of her has to leave.
I
I messed this up so bad.

We're still tiny, but if you wave to me I'm always happy to wave back and chat! --------------- In a world where dungeons function as the backbone of national economies, dungeon construction is big business. Wealthy nations spend millions to have the best dungeon builders construct labyrinthine edifices full of the most dangerous traps and planted with the strongest dungeon cores in the hope of luring powerful adventurers in to retrieve the treasures generated deep within. Samuel Tolliver works for his father, who runs the finest construction crew on the continent. It is a good life, one that keeps him close to family and that earns him enough money to pursue his inventions when he has a free moment. He even has something of a talent for fixing things and keeping the various bits of equipment running. It should have been the best job in the world. There's just one problem. Sam hates dungeons and wants to destroy them all some day. And he's got the plan to do it, too. But life has a way of throwing curveballs at you. When a series of disastrous events that he himself set in motion culminates in Sam winding up dead, he thought that was the end of it. Until a voice came to him and offered him a deal, one he simply couldn't refuse. Now Dungeon Man Sam has returned to life as the guardian for a strange new dungeon core, one that will turn everything he knows about the world upside down and force him to set aside his hatred of dungeons. For the sake of himself, his friends, and his family, Sam must construct a dungeon like the world has never seen before and defend it against all comers, be they monstrous or adventurous. If he succeeds, he'll get to see his family again. If he fails, everyone he knows will fall into the grave. And somewhere beyond the range of his knowledge, something ancient and terrible stirs and takes notice. Dungeon Man Sam: When all you have is a hammer, you build. --------------- This Is A Work In Progress: This isn't the final form of Dungeon Man Sam, there's gonna be some typos, and things may change between chapters as I realize "crap, I didn't set that up nearly as well as I thought I did". I'll let you know if anything like that happens, and if you notice anything that you think is worth pointing out, feel free to let me know! Hope you enjoy the story!

Galduta
What seperates beasts from men isn't the language we speak or any such drivel taught to us in school. It isn't the way we walk or our intelligence that sets us apart. Some would have you believe that it is our ability to think and reason that makes us fundamentally different from the creatures that inhabit the world. That way of thinking, my friends, is entirely wrong. What seperates us from them and them from each other, is simply the skin that we all wear
