《Cross Roads: God's Reminder (Book Two)》Chapter 30

Revan, Jocelyn, and her friends went back upstairs to Revan’s apartment, where they had a group therapy session. It was right then and there Jocelyn, now dressed in spare clothing given to Revan, poured her heart and soul out, “I guess you know about my first tour in Iraq…”

“Yes, counselor. You were part of the 54th Battalion.” Revan said. “The battle reports said that you were the only one who survived an ambush in Iraq by the Daemon Archduke’s elite guard.”

“It was all fake…” Jocelyn uttered.

“But you were there when it happened. Your outpost was being ambushed…” Revan added.

Jocelyn shook her head in disgust, “I ran away… And I hid inside of a nearby truck. I even played dead when others walked by… After the gunfire and the bombs were going off, I took the opportunity to take one of the vehicles and drove away…” Jocelyn confessed to Cherie’s shock.

“You ran and hid while everyone else in your entire squad was fighting for their lives?” Revan chastised.

Jocelyn couldn’t defend herself as she surrendered, “yes…”

Revan took a deep breath as she continued to be professional, “and then what happened?”

“One day later, a group of Friendlies found me when I ran out of gas and water to drink. They wanted to know what happened, but I didn’t want to tell them… But they already knew…”

“And you were arrested for desertion and from running away from the battle,” Revan concluded as Jocelyn nodded her head in agreement. “Funny, it doesn’t say that you were charged with desertion. Somebody must have done a favor. Who was it?”

Jocelyn tried to swallow the lump in her throat, but it wouldn’t go away. As best she could, she rasped out the one responsible, “Angel of Death…”

“No fucking way…” Jonathan uttered as Cherie shook her head in disbelief.

Still keeping calm, Revan continued, “and you became a part of Adrian Eichner’s circle…”

Jocelyn didn’t respond, but then again, her silence was just enough.

Revan at this point might be overreaching, but it’s a hugely far cry from what many others would try to insinuate in her position. Case in point, she had to since this topic was just as critical of what happened five years ago in London.

“Years later, after Eichner flipped you, were you ever involved with the Red Arrow--?”

“Okay, maybe we need to talk to a lawyer or something?” Jonathan interjected.

Revan set back in her chair and looked at Jonathan with an intensified glare, “boy, sit down and shut up.” She demanded. Even without her costume, she was still an intimidating presence. Jonathan did what he was told without question as he also looked away.

Jocelyn knew there’s no turning back as he finally confessed, “yes… At that time during the Iraq war, Adrian had plenty of interests in Europe and in Africa-- especially the Sahara Desert. She profited off the war immensely, just like many other men in Washington. You were right all along, Revan.

“The Dark Nebula Coalition was a former shell of itself when Grandmaster Novak died. At that time, the Oleander Syndicate, the Red Arrow, and the Blood Rose-- a part of the Royal Nephalem Order that was under the Daemon Archduke’s Endspiel-- pretty much made up the coalition in general. When the Marine Corps knew about my desertion, they wanted to lock me up for life, but instead, Eichner purchased my freedom…”

“What did you do, counselor? What did she make you do?” Revan asked.

“She… She made me do things I wasn’t comfortable with…” Jocelyn stammered. “When I was stationed in London eight years ago, I was in a relationship with a member of the Red Arrow…”

Here in this made Jonathan’s blood boil as he had to get up and walk around.

“Was the relationship serious…?” Revan followed up.

Jocelyn began to cry as it was painful for her to remember, “he was dear to my heart. I loved him… But I was too broken and too damaged… Still, he wanted to be with me…”

“So, what happened to him?” Revan asked.

“The Red Arrow… was still chasing you down eight years ago. They spotted you in Morocco.”

“Yes, the massacre in Morocco,” Revan remembered.

“I never heard of it…” Cherie chimes in.

“You weren’t supposed to, darling. Many war stories in history go undocumented. Heroic deeds and massive killings. Some that were lost in time or some that were deliberately slipped under the rug,” Revan explained.

Jocelyn nodded her head, nervously.

Preparing herself for what’s to come, Revan asked the most important and obvious question, “what really happened in Morocco?”

Jocelyn took a deep breath and told her story, “I was with the man that I loved for almost three years in London, going about my days in the Red Arrow Temple--”

“Because Adrian put you there as a distraction, I know. Get on with it!” Revan prodded.

Jocelyn shook her head in disgust as she continued, “the Killer Queen Shayna Hu was about to torture and kill her half-sister. I stepped in and saved her…”

This actually shocked Revan, “why?”

Jocelyn shrugged his shoulders, “I don’t know… I guess, looking back at it… I wanted to save somebody’s life…”

“So you stepped in and saved this woman’s life… Then what?” Revan probed.

“Then, Shayna ordered my lover’s team and me to investigate,” Jocelyn explained. “We traveled by convoy through the Sahara Desert, making our way to Morocco in the summer heat. It was then we found our destination, it was an outpost that was a man-made oasis. It was a bloodbath with severed heads, nephalems being hung from trees and children being burned alive…”

Cherie was on the verge of tears, hearing her friend and inspiration being disenchanted like this while confessing her crimes and sins.

“Did you know about this firsthand--?”

“No!” Jocelyn defended. “I didn’t know anything! They were just as appalled as I was! They were markings of the Third Revelation all over the place.”

“The Third Revelation, I have heard of them,” Revan mentioned. “They were led by a ravenous zealot who wanted to kill nephalems for inflamed reasons. All of them were discriminatory at best.”

“They were the ones responsible…” Jocelyn said while crying. “Soon enough, we decided to find any survivors. It was a divisive decision, at least. But we did it anyway. Later that night in that desert, we found a makeshift outpost that was housing many other refugees that fled the carnage. It turns out they were hiding for days without food and water. We ended up saving them all.” Jocelyn smiled.

But Revan knew better than that knowing this was not the real ending to this horrific story, “Until…”

It took Jocelyn awhile to find the words that really happened. She tried to censor herself. Even if she did, the details would still be horrific.

And so she bluntly explained, “while everybody was euphoric of their successful rescue mission, I left the outpost. Hours before, we found the refugees, we called for backup. It never came…”

“Instead, Adrian Eichner’s team, along with Shayna Hu’s team was there instead, killing everyone,” Revan concluded as Jocelyn nodded in agreement.

Revan pretty much knew that Adrian Eichner and Shayna Hu were in collusion with each other and wanted to kill off any kind of uprising amongst their own organizations. Shayna helped her out dealing with Adrian’s problems while Adrian took care of hers. The civil war inside of the Red Arrow was a tumultuous one when you had two influential leaders like Shayna Hu and Amy Winston.

Amy herself was younger, healthier and had stronger values that were similar to the late Grandmaster Sudbina Novak. However, Shayna Hu was a genocidal maniac who wanted to kill and loved the sport of killing. Shayna also loved money, and it was something that resonated with Adrian Eichner and the rest of the Dark Nebula Coalition.

It was right then and there that Jocelyn Shane was used as eye candy to smoke out most of the uprising. Knowing they would genuinely care about the nephalem refugees and what happened to the military outpost before that, would have them veer off their own mission and lead them to death. It was an ingenious plot that was swept under the rug by the United States Marine Corps with the influence of the Dark Nebula Coalition.

Giving such grisly details, Cherie was already in tears hearing such horrific stories. Meanwhile, Jonathan tried his best to control his anger.

“Alright, the-that’s enough…” Jonathan pleaded.

Even though he couldn’t stomach any more horror stories from his new lover, Revan urged Jonathan to get a hold of himself as well, “please, Detective Peterson --”

“NO, ENOUGH!” Jonathan snapped out loud. “MOTHERFUCKER! THAT BITCH EICHNER GOT HER--?!”

“JoJo, Adrian Eichner is my superior…! I have been a part of the Oleander Syndicate as a double agent for years… A-and I still am…” Jocelyn tearfully confessed.

Cherie wiped her tears away with her handkerchief as this was startling news to her, “I don’t know what to say…”

This was breaking Cherie’s heart, and Jocelyn knew it. Cherie looked at Jocelyn as her inspiration and as a hero, and she felt she let her down, “I had to lie, saying her little wolf girls saved my life… Since then, I somewhat proved myself… Gave me a job when I got out of the military, helped me pursue my dreams as a lawyer. All I had to do was pay her back in full.”

To Cherie, it still didn’t make any sense as she tried her hardest to understand, “So… I need a minute here… why did you agree to do something this?!”

While Jocelyn was confessing, it felt like the weight was gradually coming off her shoulders, “I didn’t want to go to jail. If I disobeyed her, she would beat me or even worse… Sex is another weapon for Adrian, a form of control and domination to her…”

Although her superiors Alpha Crucis and the Aethereal Queen can be strict at times and quite critical, they would never lay a hand on her or treat Cherie like she is a piece of meat. Primarily, they would never have drugged her and have her raped. The respect they have for one another was mutual, something that the Nether Elite or the entire Oleander Syndicate never had with one another, “It all makes sense now…”

Jocelyn turned to Jonathan as he was already pacing around the room, trying to calm down, “Please, JoJo, d-don’t leave me--!”

This assumption stopped Jonathan dead in his tracks as he faces Jocelyn, “Who said anything about me leaving you, J.J.?!” He corrected.

“What you are going to do first is to tell your story to the DA,” Cherie suggested while holding Jocelyn’s hands, comforting her.

“That is not going to work, counselor. Who do you think got inside the DA’s head in the first place and signed you on?” Revan debunked.

Jonathan then turns his attention to Revan, who has been very lax throughout this group session, “So, that’s it? Eichner gets away with it?!”

Revan sat back in her chair and looked Jonathan right in the eye, “She already has, in my opinion,” she admitted.

“Are you saying that as an ordinary civilian or as Lady Memento?” Jonathan baited.

“I’m not Lady Memento, remember?” Revan reminded as this made the entire room aware of the situation.

“Good point…” Jocelyn concluded herself.

Revan nodded in agreement, knowing she can do much of anything nowadays even if she wanted to, “What I can do is tell the DA that you are making progress with your therapy sessions, and you are showing signs of emotional improvement. Let’s say, two days from now, we’ll pick up where we left off?” Her doctor suggested.

Feeling defeated, Jocelyn nodded to the upcoming appointment as she leaves the room with Cherie as Jonathan stayed behind to speak to Revan.

However, Revan didn’t want any of his sob stories either, “you know what to do…”

With that stark and vague advice, Jonathan left the room, leaving Revan to collect her thoughts. Jocelyn showed all the signs of a woman being abused. However, what kind of abuse remained a mystery was solved tonight.

She thought when she was finally done being God’s reminder, she would have it easy, owning a private practice and spending more time with her family. Only to realize she will always be a reminder to many others. In one of those reminders for something that she never wanted to be a representation of regret.
