《A Tale of the Golden Crown》V.1 Ch.3: Questions over questions
Advertisement
As I talked to my grandmother, the servants, and the doctors, I realised I could speak and understand three languages: English from my first life; Mital and Empyrian from my second life. And that is where questions started: why could I imagine myself writing something in English, but not my other two “native languages”? While most of the doctors spoke mital, as they were from all the kingdom of Mitalica, why did they have trouble speaking empyrian? And while the local doctors spoke empyrian very well, most of the servants on the other hand had a very heavy accent.
Also, I could remember that the kingdom was on the brink of civil war, but the concrete evidence eluded me. And while I knew that I was a baron and my grandmother was the grand duchess, I could not remember if there were counts or other nobility.
Even as I heard the name Gennach, I knew that he was my uncle and only a few years older than me, but I had no idea what my relationship with him was.
Less a question, more of a problem was the fact, that the questions that I had should have been known by the real Leonidas, which means that either some memories disappeared, or I just lost access to them but could regain them. But my loss of memory could be discovered by the doctors and by the people who know me. I mean, what would they know about medicine? Maybe they think I am a demon and they will burn me?
So, I panicked and decided to fill the gaps in my knowledge as fast as possible, grabbed my new walking club and stormed into the library, which should be just a short walk away from my chamber (no idea why I did remember that).

Well, storming is a strong word. More like limped. And I never reached the library. You see, when I finally got out of my chamber and walked a few steps along the hallway ignoring the frightened servant, I nearly fell on the floor from exhaustion. Yeah… being for half a year in a bed and being ravaged by poison did nothing good to my endurance.
I leaned on my walking club and the wall for at least half an hour to catch my breath and walked with the help of the servant back to my bed, where I decided that I had enough sport for one day and fell asleep in the late afternoon of the day.
I woke up early in the morning with the first light of the sun and the servants brought me breakfast to my bed. It was more of a buffet of some variations of bread, many fruits like oranges, pomegranate, apples and grapes, as well a lot of meat. Well, to rebuild my body I dug in and surprisingly I ate almost everything the servants brought me. At least my appetite was not lost.
As the servants brought away the food and helped me to change my sleeping clothes into something more representable, I heard a commotion from the window as if a group of horsemen arrived. I decided to wait (as if I had other options) until I heard a knock on my door. A little surprised, I welcomed them in.
A 1,90 cm tall, energetic, and bit eccentric man with short red hair, brown eyes and a squarish face walked into the room. While he was shorter than grandmother, he was ridiculous wide as about 2 guards in armour, as I saw them yesterday in the hallway. He had no armour on him, just a red shirt with golden embroideries of flowers at the edge of the fabric, green pants that suspiciously looked as if they were loaded with hidden weaponry and heavy leather boots.

“Nephew, I am glad to see you! You look even worse than ma told me, did you at least get a shot at the white deer?” His voice joyously reverberated across the room as he rushed to the bed and fell on it. Thankfully the bed did not break or even make a sound as the mountain of an uncle sat on it.
“Glad to see you too, Gennach. No, as sad as it may be, but I could not shoot the deer, as I fell unconscious before I had the chance. Grandma told me you wanted to help me get my body in form?” I answered him and made up a façade so he could not see that I could literally not remember a single conversation with him.
“What a shame! I too tried to catch him, but the white deer was always so slippery. But worry not! On the next hunt I will…”. He boasted loudly, more talking to himself, looked up and started posing as the hero of a great battle, when suddenly he stopped and his eyes went wide. His hands packed me at the shoulders as he held me still. He looked sharply into my eyes, while his eyes started to narrow into tiny slits.
“No, you look just like him. And you do have his body language. But your manner of speaking… do you have a memory loss? Well, that is not surprising, you were for half a year in delirium, it would be surprising if only your body was weak. That is bad, you know. There was this saying - you need a strong body and a strong spirit, or something like that! Okay, enough chit-chat, we need you to start to work out!”
I do not know how many times the emotions on my face changed. And I thought how dumb I was: memory loss from a heavy illness and a violent accident was not so farfetched. Well, and I was really thankful that Gennach thought that way.
Without asking me he pulled me out of the bed and made way with me to the library, claiming that on the way they would do exercises to better my body while reading and remembering books to train my spirit. Well at least someone will look after me if I collapse again on the way to the library.
