《I Shall Prevail》Chapter 3: The Direwolf

Am I really going crazy, this can’t be possible. I must have eaten something or been poisoned, it’s impossible. It felt so real, the howl, the people, the beast and… and the baby! – as Vigo continued thinking he remembered the beginning, how it started. The child, it had begun with a strange child who had suddenly just showed up.
He quickly scanned the surroundings and noticed the baby was now being held by a young woman, he peacefully sleeping in her arms while she gently rocked him side to side. Vigo didn’t know when the woman had picked up the baby but he didn’t intend to allow it to continue.
“Drop that child now! It’s a d-“ – just as he was about to finish shivers went down his spine as he felt a sense of danger and recalled what had happened before. He nervously stopped what he was about to say and quickly turned towards the forest. He had felt the gaze of a beast like before, he looked and looked but the beast he had seen wasn’t there and yet he knew that it was definitely watching, he swore that the beast had something to do with this child.
It’s there, it really is. I know it is, it’s watching, waiting but for what, what’s it’s goal. I need to save myself and my wife while I still can.
With those being Vigo’s final thought he stopped what he was doing and rushed into his home, leaving everyone unaware of what to do. Everyone had witnessed his actions.
Before this, in the beginning they were all skeptical of the child and then Vigo suddenly started having a sort of mental breakdown scaring everyone into thinking the baby was the cause of this.
No one had dared approach, a troop had been the first to arrive, he had cautiously approached and when he was within feet of Vigo and the baby he hadn’t felt any sort of reaction from them besides Vigo trembling and murmuring. Although he hadn’t sensed danger he never let his guard down and first approached the child. It was until he kneeled down and lifted the child that he was sure it was just a normal human baby.

Leaving the child on the floor once more he had continued towards his captain, bringing him back to reality. It was then, that slowly more people had started to show up and before the captain had awoken there was already a big crowd all around wondering why the genius of town had suddenly turned into a lunatic.
Between all the ruckus a woman had approached the boy and lifted him, she had two children of her own and this one didn’t feel any different to a normal baby. It’s just a small baby boy. Who would do such a thing? You poor soul… you will be okay, I’ll care for you. – as she was lost in her thoughts Vigo had yelled for her to drop the baby when he abruptly cut himself off and rushed into his house shutting the door behind him.
Everyone was lost for words, not knowing what to make out of everything. They slowly began to return to their homes after crossing a few words and sharing some ideas about what had happened. Although questions remained unanswered, what they knew for sure was that Vigo had suddenly had a mental breakdown and that the child who was at first a threat had actually resulted in no more than a normal child abandoned by his parents.
Slowly few people remained, the woman who was still carrying the child had a few persons around her, all looking curiously at the young baby and making assumption as to how it could have showed up. Besides them was the troop who had initially approached to figure out what was happening with his captain. He was the most confused as he personally knew Vigo and he couldn’t get a grasp on the situation at hand.
What’s wrong with Vigo? This tiny boy couldn’t have done something right..? – thought the troop as he confusedly looked at the child and back at Vigo’s home. Or could he…Pfft! That’d be absurd. – he thought as he finally decided to leave. He’d figure it out in the morning.

The lady also left taking the child with her, she didn’t have the heart to leave a child on its own. She would figure it out in the morning and if it had really been abandoned she would care for it herself.
Direwolf’s Perspective
Deep in the forest lay the direwolf, it had been watching since the beginning. It was in a realm much stronger than Vigor so it could wait until the last milli-second to react. When it saw Vigo about to strike the boy with his sword it released all of its killing intent on Vigo. Vigo, having felt the immense danger, feared for his life, his moral was weak and his mind had been easily trapped in an illusion that only he could see. His body became a vegetable, only being able to utter words, groans and screams as if he were a mad man.
Once the direwolf had accomplished its goal it continued to watch, while the phoenix continued being a spectator above. It would only act if the direwolf couldn’t handle the situation.
