《How I Became A Jarl》3. In The Storm

Happy with my second journey to the ship I came back with two clay jugs. I immediately opened one of them. It was wine! And a strong one at that. The scent was very intense. With two sips I already felt drunk… and I’ve got the whole jug left! Probably all jugs on the ship have some alcohol in them! I took a few more sips and… I fell asleep? I think?
When I woke up I was so hungry. Also, there was my puke in the helmet… I’ll clean that later… I got tired of eating berries all day. There was a rabbit on this island… maybe there are more of them?
I was hiding in the bush somewhere in the middle of the forest near the berries. After a while, the rabbit arrived. Once it was close to me I jumped on it and stroked my sword. I wasn’t even close to hitting the rabbit. When it started to run I threw my sword but I missed…
How fast were people in the past, that they hunted rabbits like that every day! Or were they good at throwing?
Wait…
THEY HAD BOWS AND I DON'T! No… they also used traps… To think that they don’t teach kids something useful like that in school. I dug a small hole with my ax. Deep enough to not let the rabbit escape. I placed some sticks and covered them with leaves. I placed some barriers on it to attract rabbits.
I fell asleep while waiting but squeaks woke me up. There he was! In the hole! My dinner! I took the rabbit and set the trap again to have something tasty for the next day.
The storm appeared in the middle of the night. I was too scared that something would happen to my shed so I didn’t sleep. There was something on the water. On the horizon, I saw yellow dots… Were those a light? It was my chance to be spotted by people. Using my last few percent of battery I gave signals with the phone's flashlight.

When I was on the beach I stopped because I saw someone near the water. He was lying there, unconscious. Once I was close to him I saw that he had chains on his legs. Is he a prisoner? No… He also had grey torn robes. By the look of it, he's probably from Asia.
I took him to my shed. He was breathing but he was unconscious. I lit a fire and tried to keep it small to not burn my shed… I didn't sleep much that night… In the morning I ate berries. The only thing I drank so far was water and wine… It would be hard to do a coffee without coffee beans. But what do I need to make tea?
Well… I just went into the first and took all the herbs that I saw and started experimenting. I didn’t have any cups and it was hard to do one with wood so I made a bowl. I tried every herb and one of them tested closest to the tea that I know… but it was still far from perfection.
*COUGH* *COUGH* *COUGH*
I went inside to see how that guy was doing. He looked pale and… scared? I don’t know why someone would be scared of their Savior. He started to scream in some weird language. It didn’t sound like any Asian language…
I showed him my empty hands and said “Calm down, calm down… Do you speak English?”
Guy froze in place. He didn’t look scared now. But he definitely was confused. I slowly took off my helmet and asked “Do you understand me?”
“You’re from the earth!” He immediately replied.
“From where else could I be? From mars?”
“No… I mean like another world.”
“You hit your head or something in that storm?”
“I didn’t…”
“So what do you mean by another world…”

Epoch: An NPC's Tale
Epoch is a slow-burn LitRPG/Gamelit novel that tells the story of Luke, later named Lucius—a natural inhabitant of the game-like realm of Elyssia where thousands upon thousands of detached, virtually unkillable entities known as the Players were suddenly introduced right after the dusk of the magnificent Age of Heroes. Shortly after the Players arrived, the balance of power in Elyssia instantly shifted. Kingdoms fell, wars were waged, alliances between races were made, and Lucius, after ten years of training in captivity, found himself being used as a pawn in a prophecy that he had no intention to fulfill. With aspirations and desires of his own, Lucius must find a way to cautiously adapt to the drastic changes in the very foundations of the realm after being sent 300 years into a future that was forever altered by the outcome of the war that his captors had lost and the Players won in a victory that resounded throughout the ages, all for a terrible price. Author's Note As an avid fan of the LitRPG genre myself, I wrote this novel with character progression, heavy Gamelit elements, and some degree of world-building in mind. If you like these, please feel free to give this novel a try. Oh, and the MC is also an NPC, in a sense. And wait, isn't this also an isekai story? Well, it's all a bit complicated to explain here. Maybe you should start reading now?
