《Invasion》Chapter 4: Rescue

The sound of footsteps whispers throughout the cave.
It is dark, cold and humid. The darkness then temporarily gets dispersed by a few beams of light.
The light moves all around the area illuminating every nook and cranny.
At the end of this light are Wick and his squad.
They are walking slowly, on high alert with their guns at the ready.
One of the beams of light pointing upward suddenly hits a group of bats sleeping.
The bats shrieks, the sudden flash of light made them awake. They start flying towards the group.
Leathered wings hits and bumps the soldiers making them flail their arms and swats the incoming bats.
One of the soldiers start screaming but immediately gets silenced by Tanya.
The force of her hand slapping and shutting his mouth almost made him topple over.
"Calm down, they are just bats" She said
She then takes out her hand and glares at the soldier.
"Im never gonna wash this mouth again" he whispers
The soldiers bows his head slightly and apologizes to Tanya.
"Keep walking" Wick orders
After recovering and composing themselves they start walking again.
5 minutes had pass and all they have seen are rocks.
Being on high alert all this time and only seeing rocks have made them feel irritable and on edge.
As they approach a fork in the cave they start seeing an orange light at the right side of it, coming closer and closer.
Wick immediately signals them to turn off their flashlights and start setting up for an ambush . Which they did.
Darkness then envelopes them hiding their presence.
As the orange light approaches five small silhouettes can be vaguely seen.
As they are almost a few meters from them they finally see what or who it is.
It was five tiny human like creatures with green skin, pointy ears and nose.
"Goblins" whispers Wick.
One of them is carrying a torch, explaining the orange light at the distance.
2 of them appears to be holding a towel, they are busy sniffing them with huge grin on their faces.
While the rest of them are carrying iron swords looking around and scanning the area.
As the goblins are almost at arms reach Tanya springs from the Darknes, grabs the goblin carrying the torch.
She then takes out her knife and plunges it right through the goblins throat.
The goblin tries to scream but it is now too late the knife is now lodged deeply inside him.
The screams turns into a gurgled yelp.
Wick also grabs one of the goblin by its face then slams it on the wall.
The force is so great that back of its head cracks and blood splatters on the wall of the cave.

The other soldiers follow suit disarming and killing the other goblins.
Wick then steps on the torch putting it out. The orange light gradually fades hiding the goblins lifeless bodies in the darkness.
"Alright, lets go to the right"
As they got closer and closer they start seeing a bright light at a distance.
They can also vaguely hear muffled screams and cackled laughter.
As they arrive at the chamber they carefully hide at one of the stalagmite near the entrance.
They are surprised on how big it was, its like a a huge circular room.
There is a huge hole on the ceiling letting in sunlight, illuminating the whole place.
The walls of the room are covered with weird symbols and it looks like it is written in blood.
On the opposite of then was a massive creature it has only one eye and has a fat humanoid body.
It is sitting and leaning on the wall. On his side was a huge spiky club.
The mere sight of the monster made the whole squad tremble in fear.
On the other side of the room are there comrades. They are being held by dozens of goblins. Few more goblins are closely watching them.
There hair is still wet and there clothes are nowhere to be seen.
The three girl are trashing and defying the goblins but there are too many of them.
The monster looks like its having a conversation with an old goblin. The goblin has a long beard and was thin and lanky.
He is wearing a tattered robe and is carrying a staff thats adorned with bones.
"Give me the girls now!" demanded the monster
Wick and his squad was shocked that a brutish monster is able to speak.
"But master, we need them to expand our army, our nursery are running low on woman"
The monster roars. It's voice echoes throughout the room it made all the creatures there paralyzed with fear.
"I don't care! it's been so long since Ive eaten a proper girl. The old woman you sent me leaved a bad taste in my mouth"
"We know master but.."
He was stop mid sentence because the giant monster grabs him and put him closer to its face.
"Give them to me or you'll be the one swimming in my stomach"
"Yes master." The old goblin lowers his head.
The monster then puts the goblin down. Then the old goblin commands the other goblins to bring the prisoners to the monster.
"Now!" shouted Wick.
As soon as they are about to give the prisoner to the monster Wick throws a flashbang in the middle.

The monster, the goblins, and the prisoners are temporarily blinded and instinctively cover their eyes from the sudden flash of light.
Wick and the squad immediately open fires making sure not to hit the hostages.
Few of the goblins quickly falls to the ground while the other goblins scurry including the old goblin to hide.
As they are about to reload for another round of barrage the one eyed giant screams and start stumbling around the room hitting foes and allies alike.
Tanya tries to shoot the monster down but the bullets can't peirce deeply enough to inflict fatal wounds.
Few moments of killing a few more goblins and shooting the monster. Their eyesight starts coming back.
The remaining 30 goblins who are hiding starts charging towards them while the prisoner quickly hides toward the entrance.
The monster finally knowing who the mystery attackers are, quickly grabs its club. It is still wounded so it is a bit sluggish , but it can still takes their entire squad down.
Knowing this, Wick Tanya and the other soldier immediately split up.
Few grenades get thrown causing 5 goblins to explode and the monster to stagger back.
The explosion made some stalactites to come crashing down, crushing and killing one soldier and a few goblins.
Wick get's jumped by a goblin but he swiftly kicks it and then finish it off with the quick shot to the head.
He, Tanya and another soldier focused their attention on the monster.
The monster charges towards them but Tanya and Wick immediately got out of the way.
Unfortunately the other soldier got trampled to death.
It then tries to swing its club at them but Tanya precisely shoot its hand, this made the monster scream in pain and stagger back.
As Wick and Tanya were fighting the monster the other soldiers are busy getting rid of the remaining goblin.
One of the soldier get piled up and gets stabbed to death by a few goblins.
As the goblin numbers are dwindling a few of them notices this and tries to run away.
Their effort was proved to be futile because they get immediately barraged with a hail of bullets from the soldiers.
Meanwhile on Tanya and Wicks side, the monster is visibily exhausted and is now breathing hard.
"Stay down monster" Tanya said
"Hehe, Im coming for you first" the monster said while licking its lips
The monster then throws his club towards Wick in a desperate attempt to kill him but he manages to jump out of safety the last second.
The sudden attempt to move out of the way made Wick let go of his weapon.
While Wick is trying to stand up again the monster quickly charges towards tanya and manages to grab her.
"Got you!"
The monster starts smelling her, savoring its prey.
"Oh, so you're a girl."
It then rips Tanyas helmet right off exposing her blond her.
Tanya just gives the monster a cold glare.
"I like you, this is gonna be the best meal i have in a long time"
As the monster begins to open his mouth The monster fail to see that Tanya is hiding something behind her back.
As she was inches inside the monsters mouth he immediately takes out her desert eagle from behind and open fire aiming at his mouth and eyes.
The monster was already to late in reacting that the only thing it saw was the barell of the gun and the sudden darkness.
Its blood splashes on Tanya but she just continues shooting in point blank.
The monster screams in pain, it was so terrible that the old goblin felt pity for its master.
As the monster was about to let go of Tanya, she throws a grenade inside its mouth.
The grenade exploded stopping the monster from screaming and it immediately topples to the ground as its mouth was smoking.
Tanya lands to the ground fixes her hair and walk towards her rifle.
Wick also regroups with her and start helping their comrade.
"Remind me not to get on your bad side" Wick said
Few moments later the sounds of gunshots and screaming slowly dies out and all the goblins is now dead or dying.
Wick calls and regroups his 8 remaining soldiers including Tanya.
"Wheres the hostages?" he asked
"There here sir but there are only two of them" answered one
"What? Wheres the other one?"
"I think the old goblin took one of the hostage sir." Tanya answered.
Wick scratches his chin and tries to think of where could the old goblin be.
"Alright, we should first escort the two of them they had enough trauma for the day"
" You four escort them back to the camp and also give them some clothes something might stand and attention"
Tanya rolls her eyes.
"Us five will find the last one, i think they are at the left side of the fork in the road before"
The four of the soldiers salutes at Wick and starts covering the hostages.
They were terribly shivering and shaking. It must be from the coldness of the cave and the emotional trauma they just witnessed.
Wick and the remaining soldiers then count their ammos and equipments surrounded by hundreds of dead goblins.

Follow the thoughtful MC as he makes his way through the magical world as a dragon, in his own way! 8 149The Ingress Estate
Jonathon Eucole. Soldier. Scholar. Now an Initiate, the dedication without dedication, he finds himself both prisoner and master of an arcane edifice, the Ingress Estate, which can neither be escaped, nor controlled; only diverted, maintained, and pacified. This is a gothic fantasy story, set in a world in which gods and the afterlife are not only real and known, but were both established in living memory of some of the inhabitants after millennia of arcane warfare with the being who constructed the mundane reality the humans occupy. But this isn't the story of those who colonized the afterlife at the cost of their own humanity, but a somewhat more ordinary man, in somewhat extraordinary circumstances. This is also a LitRPG-lite, which means there's a system of sorts, fragments of which can be observed through Jonathon's eyes. Don't expect level-up screens, or statistics, or indeed numbers much at all, beyond those the inhabitants of the world itself apply to understanding their own reality. It pretty much doesn't matter to the story, I mention it so those who don't want to read LitRPG at all can successfully avoid it here. I don't have any particular plan here, just some ideas inherent in the genre. This is a character concept I toyed with some years ago; an old man, bright of mind but weighed down into apathy, both by his past and his responsibilities for a terrible estate that cannot be left without stewardship. Don't expect any kind of overarching plot or story, because that's really not what this is about. Also don't expect much dialogue. Or character development. Or much of anything, really, because I've planned nothing in the way of an actual book, here. Other relevant information, if you've read this far for some reason: The MC isn't super-powerful to begin with, and probably never will be. He's a veteran with some useful skills, and the insight on how to use them, so can deal with the world's ordinary threats reasonably well, but not too much beyond that. --- Currently on hiatus, as currently the story has a rather poor ratio of effort-to-personal-payoff. I may return to this once I have a clear idea of how to get the stories where I want them. I've started a more standard LitRPG using the same system. But if you like intelligence characters who cleverly min-max their classes, it probably isn't the story for you; it's the story of a rather ordinary guy who winds up in a very similar universe.
