《Kuni no Senso》Book 3 Chapter 1: Which Tells of A Handicap

ITE LOOKED DOWN UPON YUKAN’S BADLY MANGLED HAND.
"Yukan, your hand," she commented in shock as she held it, noticing the bones poking out.
"I'm okay," Yukan told her, mostly meaning that he was mentally okay rather than physically. "I'm with you now." They pull each other back into their embrace.
"It's okay," he repeated himself. "Everything's okay now. Once Kadaina recovers, he can heal it."
"I thought I lost you again," Ite remarked, shedding a few more tears in the process. "You need to stop doing that." She hid her face in Yukan's chest as he continued to console her.
Suddenly, Yukan shoved Ite away from himself. As Ite reacted, she saw the cause of Yukan's alarm, but only after it was too late. She watched as the Alpha Blade connected with Yukan's mangled hand, separating it from his forearm at the wrist. As the hand fell to the ground, Yukan collapsed alongside the recently removed body part in a state of immense pain.
"Get away from him!" Ite yelled out as she grabbed her bow. She attached the arrow to the drawstring and pulled back, aiming it at Kunshu as he began to walk away. After she fired, the arrow flew straight at her target, but he had sliced the arrow clean in half and killed its momentum.
"Insolent girl," Kunshu scoffed as he stepped into the buggy and drove away. Ite then redirected her attention to Yukan, who was screaming in pure agony. Tears began to roll down his face as the blood escaped from the gap that was once patched up by his right hand.
"Yukan," she began as she tried to help him up, "please calm down! We need to get you back to the base." Yukan tried to walk, but he'd already lost so much blood that he had gone unconscious.

In an impromptu decision, Zenpan and Kadaina grabbed a torch and chose to cauterize the wound to prevent him from bleeding out. They loaded him onto a stretcher and began the trek back to Akuni's medical ward in Northwell.

Once they arrived at the medical ward, they transferred Yukan's body onto a bed. Yukan did not seem to react, the amount of blood in his body still far too low.
"He has lost a lot of blood again," Kadaina reported to the nurses. "I need an IV in here right now. Someone get him his hand! Someone get this man some morphine!" These scattered demands were followed by various nurses on the site. As they rush to get the sedatives in the odd chance that Yukan might awaken mid-operation, Kadaina begins to use his magic. However, his energy was severely depleted after the intense battle. As a result, all that happened as he finished healing him was that the cauterized wound had repaired the flesh over his hand, leaving a stump where his hand once was. Zenpan then entered with Yukan's hand wrapped in a white cloth.
"I have the... the hand," Zenpan stammered due to the predicament they found themselves in. "Can you put it back?"
"Put it down on the table next to where it was cut off," Kadaina demanded. Zenpan nodded as he placed the hand beside the stump. As Kadaina tried once more to heal him, he collapsed from exhaustion. He had overworked himself since he woke up that morning with a hangover.
"Are you okay?!" Zenpan yelled as Kadaina collapsed.
"I'm fine," Kadaina wearily responded. "It's too hard for me to replace the displaced. His hand, it's too badly broken to fix. All I can do is heal it up. I'm too drained. I'm sorry..."

"You did what you could," the general reassured him. "Take it easy, you're drained from everything that has happened today."
"I don't even think we can surgically reattach it..." the tired teenager said before passing out.
"Ah, man!" Zenpan remarked as he now had two unconscious bodies that he had to watch over. "Can I get some help here? Someone take Kadaina to his room. I need a doctor here right now!"
"Right away!" a nurse responded, gathering a group to return Kadaina's body to the barracks before turning back to their higher-up. "What else do you need, sir?"
"I need a prosthetic hand for this young man as soon as possible!" the highest figure in the ward demanded.
"We have one made of titanium alloy," the nurse reported.
"Get it here right away!" Zenpan told her. She rushes off to grab the prosthetic as Zenpan tapped his foot anxiously. He knew that if Yukan didn't pull through, then it was only a matter of time before Kunshu would attack the base to obtain the Omega Blade. Eventually, the nurse returned with the hand and gave it to Zenpan. After he attached the prosthetic to Yukan's arm at the stub, he noticed the fingers moving. Thankfully, Kadaina had managed to heal the necessary motor neurons in his arm so that he could move his new hand.
"Now that's all sorted out," the general sighed in relief. "We will let him rest. He's going to need some time to recover from this loss." The two of them exited the room not too long after to let him rest. Later on, they transferred him to a medical ward on the main military base in Murasakino.

Yukan's eyes snapped open the next morning. His heart was racing as he had just awoken from a nightmare. For reassurance, he got straight out of bed and rushed to his room. Once he arrived there, he saw the Omega Blade, still propped against his bed as it had been since two nights prior. As he grabbed the sword once more, the world around him calmed as it started to etch the rose design into the prosthetic. His breathing calmed once more as he tightened his grip on the hilt. At last, he was reunited with the blade.
