《There Is A Monster Among Us》Chapter 12: Antitoxin

Until now, I've only thought of Pink as a very reliable subordinate. No, that's not quite right. I am aware of how attractive Pink is, yet, I do not hope to initiate.
What is happening now? I'm about to kiss a subordinate while she is unconscious. Wait, saying it that way may cause some weird misunderstanding.
I'm just going to make her drink this antitoxin. Yes, what I'm doing is necessary. If I don't act, I'm going to lose her.
If she starts to hate me for this, I don't care. If she sues me, I think I'll win the case. I'll use my contacts if need be.
Resolving myself, I put some antitoxin potion into my mouth without swallowing. Since her head lies on the bed slightly, the slant shall help for better flow. Then, I make sure to balance Pink's head with my hand while I hold her cheek with my other. My lips are a mere few inches away from hers.
Do it, Brad Brown. Just do it!
But before I can remove the gap between us, Pink starts choking and therefore coughs, spitting all the antitoxin that I poured in her mouth earlier all over my face.
"Wha- what's happening?" Pink surveys the room, although still weak and disoriented.
I reflexively swallow the liquid in my mouth. "H-hey! You're awake!" Yes, Captain Obvious.
Seeing that she still can't get up, I remember the objective of my presence here.
"Here, drink this quick." I give Pink another vial, helping her raise it to her mouth as I watch her gulp in satisfaction. When that's done, I hand her a Health Potion which she also takes with gratitude.
"Lieutenant, thank you for coming," she exhales and inhales deep. "But may I ask why your face is wet?"

I wipe my face in a hurry and looking at my palm, it is the purple liquid she spat on me. Yep. Pink probably remembers that she choked earlier with something. And one must know that if that something is now on my face, then that can only mean that my face was close to hers.
Pink chuckled. "Were you perhaps planning to feed me the antitoxin the romantic way?"
"Uhh..."
Pink turns serious. "Sir, you must know that only works in stories. In practice, it will just choke the patient more often than not." She brings out a thin tube from her item bag and waves it in front of me. "This thing should work just fine. What do you think we have this for?"
Seeing the tube, I remember that I probably have one in my item bag as well. I frown to hide my embarrassment.

The Sun's Remnant
Two people are transported to a world with magic, but it is no Wonderland. When the god of light died, he decided to take the world with him. At least, that’s what many believe in the Kingdom of Rhine, a once vast kingdom of which only a small corner remains — and even that is threatened. On one side, by the Twisted Forest, a corruption spreading from the deathplace of the gods that has already swallowed up most of Rhine. On the other, by the resurgent Kagrathan Empire, resurrected by the infallible God-Emperor Karlatz. A holy order of knights carry out their mission despite the death of their god. A band of talented misfits prepare for a heist out of their league — by stealing. Mages hunt for secrets even as the world ends. A ruler does what must be done to save the living, no matter the cost. Into this world of magic and murder, two adrift souls are inexplicably dragged: a mother estranged from her young daughter due to her own mistakes, and a young man with a love of fantasy who has gradually drifted away from his friends and family. As they each struggle to find their place in this world, they must also answer the question: do they want one?***Content Warning: I've drafted about 100,000 words (most of the first volume), and there is no sexual content so far, though I may add it in the future. There is occasionally gore and traumatising content as the story demands. I commit to keeping all of the above non-voyeuristic. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

The day they became Mortal
Paladins and Vampires have always been sworn enemies. While the Paladins were blessed with the power of Apollo, made to heal and to wield the power of light itself, the vampires were immortal beings with heightened senses, strength and speed. For centuries the two lived in general peace, while the paladins built their kingdom Appollis, the vampires resided in the sanguine lands of Sareth. All changed however when an unknown paladin poisoned the special water supply of the vampires with Blackrye, a plant that to the vampire's horror removed their right to eternal life. No longer protected from illness or the relentlessness of time the vampires were forced to indulge in more blood. Soon enough a war broke out between the two kingdoms, a war that would cost the life of King Barron of Appollis and the sanity of Queen Diana of Sareth. Their heirs were too young to ascend the throne, forcing the two kingdoms to hastily form a truce until both princes were old enough to rule their lands. Five years after the blood war Arrin of Appollis and Ophyr of Sareth rule their respective kingdoms, despite having been kings for a few years and heavily disliking each other due to their past, they decided to keep the truce in place. What happens however when Arrin decides to kidnap the vampire king after he unfortunately stumbled upon Appollonian terrain?

Residents of the world today only know of the sky as a sheet of pure darkness. Alz is an elf who was separated from his parents at birth due to the village’s tradition. One day, Alz stumbles upon a relic from the past, learning about the world which once existed, where lights illuminated the skies. Inspired by this, the young Alz decided to go on an adventure, an adventure to explore the vast world he lived in. Discover the world with Alz as he sets off on an adventure, experiencing many new encounters, and overcoming obstacles along the way as he slowly delved deeper into the truths behind the world. --- IMPORTANT NOTE: This story is not fantasy-themed and not I didn't omit the fantasy tag by mistake. That said, there is meaning and significance to the title, except that it will be unveiled only much later into the story. Magical elements and the like will not be a factor in most of the story until the very end. tl;dr: This is not fantasy, magic doesn't play a role in the story. --- Updates: Will try to post a chapter once every 2 days PS. This is my first novel so there might be several issues in various aspects which I might not notice so comments are highly appreciated. --- This is more to add pressure to myself rather than anything else... but anyways the story is now part of the pledge!

The FINAL Dungeon
A "young" unnamed gem, one blessed with the sentience required to regulate the world's mana, is suddenly thrust into the limelight when every other Dungeon is destroyed. Will its empowered abilities and wits be enough to survive a hostile world...? The Elder Goddess of Magic, Mystiq, is caught off-guard when an upstart New God decides he might be better for the job. With the destruction of much of her work, Mystiq is the weakest she has been in eons. Not all is lost, but if what is left cannot rise to the occasion... It might as well be. The Final Dungeon and its crippled Mother are forced to fight for their lives against a revolting pantheon, unhinged zealots, and the occasional adventurer. Do they even stand a chance? Would they… if they had a few extra chances…? ~ I've been on this site for a couple years now, and have wanted to get into some real writing for a while. Hopefully this goes alright. Time to stop dreaming, and time to start doing. ~
