Rufus went to help Emilia.

"Oh thank you."

"Ah, don't mention it."

Emilia was wearing pretty good clothes and stood out in the shelter, but everyone seemed to adore her. She was handing out food, helping the elderly, and playing childish games with the kids.

"Aaaah, you met Emilia Rosewalk. Yeah, she is a strange one alright. She is a complete saint and is nothing like the other nobles. Her parents also have come here often to help out. A minor house, but they still give out to the people who need help," Daria explained.

Rufus was stunned also by how beautiful Emilia was. A perfect rose in his opinion. Beautiful long hair and a smile that could melt an iceberg.

"Oooooh. Are you getting interested in her boss?" Leif asked and grinned at Rufus.

"Ooooh. That would be a great love story. Beauty and the gangster. That's what we will call it." Daria said.

"Oh I can see already someone making a book out of it," Leif said jokingly.

"Aaaaa, cmon guys! It's not like that!" Rufus yelled out of embarrassment.

Later when the celebrations were over people were starting to go home or start to sleep in the shelter. Only the wild parties of the nobles were still raging, apparent from the glows from their windows.

"Aaaaah, You must be Rufus. The `VILE' boss of the black rats." Emilia came and surprised Rufus.

"Vile. Who said that. I mean…I…"

"Hahahaha. Just kidding. Based on what I heard from the people here, the black rat gang has changed and it was all thanks to you. I do admit, I was first a bit intimidated by you. Being a gang boss and everything. After hearing about you from all of them repainted the picture of you in my head."

"Aaaaah thank god."

"And seeing you all flustered and embarrassed proved you are no scary guy," laughed Emilia.

Rufus felt comfortable talking to Emilia and completely forgot the fact she was a noble. He had a hard time liking nobles, understandably one of them had killed Harley.

"How a noble like you ended up here to help? It is kind of rare."

"Oooooh….Are you discriminating against me, because I am noble?"

Rufus didn't answer. Emilia realized that the joke wasn't funny to those people the nobles had wronged.

"I know we nobles take many things for granted in this kingdom. They rather turn a blind eye to reality and live a comfortable life in their bubble. Nonetheless, there are still some of us who wish to help the average person. I was lucky to be born into a good family. We are well off, but not extremely wealthy. We govern and run just a small plot of land outside the city walls."

Rufus was stunned how he saw a noble bad mouth other nobles so easily and talk about the actual problems of the kingdom.

"My parents raised me to take care of others. They are truly wonderful parents. They taught me that not all people are as fortunate as we are. That we must help the common folk. Others may be blind, but that is no excuse for us to be."

"Seems like good parents." smiled Rufus.

"Aren't they. I wish I'd see one day a kingdom of smiles."

Rufus felt like he had heard that phrase somewhere before. A fancy carriage came to the front of the shelter. From inside it, prince Markus dashed out.

"Emilia. We need to get going. Your parents are waiting for you at the Royal Palace."

Rufus and Markus locked eyes. Both were confused about what the other person was doing there.

"Aaaaaah, Markus. You should have come here. We needed your help. We luckily got some extra help from this guy here." said Emilia and pointed at Rufus.

The confusion between Markus and Rufus grew larger.

"Eh…. Do you two know each other?"

"NO!" they yelled out at the same time.

Markus started to get mad. He didn't want Rufus to get too close to Emilia. Markus thought everyone was a threat to Emilia, even himself partly, especially since their relationship was a secret from everyone.

"Byeeee. Was nice to meet you, Rufus," Emilia waved and said goodbye.

The carriage took Emilia and Markus away from the shelter. Rufus was still extremely confused. Inside the carriage, Markus felt irritated.

"Emilia. Do not hang around that person anymore."

"Huh. Why?"

"He is dangerous."

"But I know that he's the boss of the black rat gang, but he is really…"

"I know that…. He is dangerous in another way."

Emilia was confused. Markus feared letting Emilia get mixed in with his mission and Rufus was one of the main players in it.
