《EEPOS: from rags to godhood》The sons of the red moon part 2

"Boy. Tell me honestly. It's not like you can't use your divine powers, but you are afraid of them," old man Haufen asked like a parent.
This caught Rufus by surprise. Old man Haufen knew perfectly what was bothering Rufus.
"You feel disgusted about yourself. Afraid that you were able to do such a thing. During my time in the army, most men had the same problem. They would be scared of what they would become. But long as you feel uncomfortable it's fine. It is our duty to feel uncomfortable, to feel pain, to feel miserable for those we protect or at least believe we are protecting.
"And it is exactly this reason why we do what we do. They do it for the sake of others. All those who go off fighting for reasons like adventure, glory, or such will only end up pissing their pants or become crazed lunatics like that mad nobleman Blausaber. Do not fight for those in front of you, but for those behind you and beside you," old man Haufen explained.
That moment got Rufus thinking of Haley. He didn't want anything wrong to happen to her. She was all he had left.
"I'll do it," said Rufus," I will use my powers."
The words and determination Rufus spoke got a smile on old man Haufen's face. He took Rufus to the back of the bar. There he took a piece of log and place it on the ground as a target.
"There. Now. use your powers and blow away this piece of log. I saw only a glimpse of your power that night, but it sure as hell looked powerful," explained old man Haufen.
Rufus widened his stance. He reached out his hand like he was going to shoot a beam out of his hand. And then Rufus and old man Haufen yelled at the same time believing a powerful blast would come out of his hand. But nothing happened. Both Rufus and old man Haufen were confused.

"Oi, old man! Why is nothing happening?"
"How the hell I should know. I don't have any divine power," old man Haufen said embarrassingly.
"Oh, you two are both so embarrassing right now," said Mrs. Jean who came to the backyard," First you have to know your power. You get to know your power when you listen to it. You feel it inside you and you will know how to control it and release it. Like this. "
A small fire lit on Mrs. Jean's finger. Both old man Haufen and Rufus were surprised at how she could do that.
"Why are you surprised husband," asked Jean from old man Haufen," I always light candles like this at the bar,"
Old man Haufen looked embarrassed because he had completely forgotten about it.
"There are two kinds of divine power. One that flows throughout the universe. It's in wind, it's in the earth you stand, it's in the fire in the fireplace. The wild divine powers. The uncontrolled ones. Many people call it divine wind.
"Then there is the divine power that's inside living things. Not only humans but some beasts as well. Usually, it is inherited through bloodlines, BUT there have been occasions where a person has by some fate gained a divine blessing of their own. You would seem to fit into this category. A true original divinity."
Mrs. Jean then pointed at Rufus. She continued to showcase her small, but still impressive powers.
"I am partly noble, so I have a little divine power in me. It's not much, but I can maintain a small fire for a while. It's not useful for combat, but it's useful to light small fires and such. That idiot husband of mine just obviously hasn't paid enough attention to me," explained Mrs. Jean and looked angrily at old man Haufen," I remember my grandmother having great powers and she taught me a little bit of how to use this power. The best lesson she taught me was to first listen to it, then build it and then release it. Not all powers are the same so listening to them is the most important part. Your powers almost in a way speak to you on how to wield them. Try that if it helps you a little."

Rufus closed his eyes and just tried to calm down. It felt stupid to him at first, but then he started to hear some kind of faint voice. It was a very quiet voice, but it started to guide him. The voice guided him to walk closer to the log in the middle of the backyard. He still had his eyes shut so he didn't see anything. He reached his hand up and then he heard a huge voice that yelled: "DESTROY".
He dropped his hand as he was punching the log that was beneath his legs. A loud sound came. He then opened his eyes and he saw the log had been destroyed into small pieces. Rufus was happy that he was able to pull it off.
"See, see. I did it," said Rufus like a kid who rode the bike for the first time.
Both Mrs. Jean and old man Haufen were taken back with scared expressions on their faces. Rufus was confused. It's not like breaking a log was a big feat, he thought to himself. He then started to look at his surroundings. The entire ground had formed into a small crater and the fences had gotten small burn marks on them. Random boxes in the backyard were also shattered. Had Mrs. Jean and old man Haufen been a little bit closer, they would have been caught in the radius of the destruction.

Mage Among Superheroes
Turlough is a mage. He also happens to be an orc, generally lauded as being less intelligent than humans. He was unfortunately born with the Curse of the Barbarian, meaning that he can’t level up except through combat- which greatly hinders his ability to show he can be a proper mage. In a world with necromancers, dragons, invading armies, and all sorts of other monsters he would still be able to advance quickly, but unfortuantely… that world is not his world. An unprecedented peace reigns across the land, and in the last several decades there’s been little use for people capable of fighting- and thus little reason for people to fight him. So when he sees a portal in his master’s study he takes it, hoping to find a horde of demons or something equally foolish to combat at low level. But instead he ends up in a strange city full of skyscrapers and people running around in colorful outfits. Superheroes- and of course supervillains as well. What dangers and opportunities could await him in such a strange and unfamiliar world? Only time will tell. Inspired by many things in the superhero genre, and Super Minion specifically- though while the setting will share some standard elements, it is an original setting that will hopefully be as engaging as many of the other universes. Schedule: One chapter each Monday/Thursday, approx. 2000 words.

After being invited to participate in the Beta run of a new Full-Immersion Virtual Reality RPG, Ardacen Winters and 1999 others learn that it is also a race to reach the level cap of one hundred. The prizes are grand, but the chance to be the first players in this new game might be worth more than the prizes themselves. This is a Lit-RPG, a humble homage to all the others who precede it and hopefully an inspiration to anyone with a story in their own head that needs to be shared.
