《Playing Games of Despair》Chapter 18: Destination Vinlan Corp (3)

One year later. Location: Vinlan Corp Stadium
“What a showwwww!” Ashley bellowed into the microphone from her position in the commentator booth. “My heart almost stopped!”
“Gunny’s did,” Ash quipped. “And I mean literally!”
The crowd laughed along at his joke, completely unabashed. The first round of God’s Tournament had been entertainment that had wowed the world, even beyond the massive battle royale at the inauguration.
“Ash! I had chills just watching this fight!” Ashley pumped her fist in the air, still hyped from the battle between Zora and Gunny. “I can say for sure, this audience has never seen anything like this before!”
“I almost wish I had these powers,” Ash said in mock regret. “Minus all the death, of course!”
Zora quietly left the stage, preferring not to celebrate her victory.
“This year has been a roller coaster for Vinlan Corp.” Ashley shook her head. Both of the fighters in the first duel had to be from the host country. “But these games are what we have all been waiting for… THIS. IS. PEAK. DESPAIR!” Ashley yelled.
The crowd went wild, revelling in schadenfreude.
“Before we start the next fight,” Ash said, “A short break for the stage to be fixed.”
The two emcees disappeared from the main screen broadcasting to the audience. Their faces were replaced by an advertisement spot.
The camera panned to a shot of a beach party. “Summer means… Friends…” A voiceover whispered in a sexy drawl as beautiful models laughed and danced on the beach. “Fast cars…” A quick clip of a fancy car zooming down the beach boulevard. “Fun…” The camera closed in on a scantily-clad model’s tanned, taut stomach, glistening with droplets from the ocean. “Freshly squeezed,” the camera trailed her body upwards to her face. She lifted a bottle to her lips and looked directly at the camera seductively. “Zepsi.”

The fighters’ studio was noisy with rumours as the fighters awaited Zora’s return after her battle with Gunny. Somehow, most felt that they should have expected this outcome. With one slain, there could only be more. Zora had moved on to the next round.
“Welp, she’s definitely immortal,” Felix said, turning around to face Dart. “At last we don’t have to fight her.”
Dart’s face was overcast and gloomy. He had seen a lot, too much, and all at once. His brain was running wild with thoughts, none of them coherent nor complete.
“What happened to you?” Felix put his hand on Dart’s shoulder in concern. “Don’t tell me you’re crying over Gunny’s death…”
“You know, thinking about it won’t do you any good,” Kitaro said nonchalantly.
“Thinking about what? What are you babbling about again?” Felix looked at Kitaro, confused.
“Half,” Dart said in a low, serious voice. He looked up at Felix. “Only half of us are leaving this stadium alive.” It wasn’t Gunny’s death that bothered him. The year had changed Dart. He no longer had the disposition of a naive kid that flew into the inauguration on a flying bicycle.
Felix chortled. “I’m not dead yet, and I’m not planning on dying.”
Kitaro folded his arms solemnly. “The sooner you accept that we are going to die like cattle, the easier it will get.”
Felix scrunched his face up in horror. “That’s truly inspiring.”
Then he looked at Shae, who was puffing along on her cigarette in the corner, looking out at the crowd.
It’s funny. Death didn’t scare me until now, he thought.

The Power of Ten: Book One: Sama Rantha, and Book Two: The Far Future
(Author's Note: If you're wondering about the views, it's +1.8 million more on Webnovel, its original home. Updated daily starting Dec. 26, 2018, and continued with Book Three.) Some time ago, a planes-traveling archmage made up a video game to train some people on the planet Earth for the catastrophe he knew was coming. That game was the Power of Ten. The gods seized this opportunity to take the templates of some of those characters, and even their souls, for use in other worlds, and other realms. Sama Rantha is one of those characters, and is going to find out that being a Hagchild and having to survive after your Hag Curse fails to murder you at birth is much, much less fun than setting it as your Race at level One on a gamescreen. Join Sama Rantha on her Road to Ten, and letting her Hagmother know exactly what she thinks of her... ------ Warning: This book starts with a HARD OPEN! It was written as an extension of other stories that have not made it onto the Internet yet for National Novel Writing Month in Nov/2018. Book One/Sama Rantha: A traditionalist LitRPG in the fantasy world vein. The beginning chapters will be heavy with gaming terms and the supporting math as Sama exploits the rules as much as possible, minmaxing her heart out to get one up on the world trying to kill her. The math and rules lawyering tapers off, but are never eliminated, as Sama is going to do everything she can to exploit the rules of reality here and not die, while making sure those responsible for this get exactly what is coming to them... ------ Book Two, The Far Future (starting Ch. 286): The Warp, the final frontier; in the grim darkness of a galaxy far far away, there came a hagchild...QX! Sci-fi/Fantasy/psionics mashup, grimbright clashing with grimdark! Sama is sent into a setting she'd rather not be in, but the heart of a powergamer never says no, even in the crapsack galaxy of the Tellurian Empire. BOOK TWO IS COMPLETE WITH 357 CHAPTERS AS OF 9/2020. ----------- Book Three (updating daily): The Human Race (next Book!) - Urban Fantasy world. Three Power of Ten gamers come together in a world under the Shroud of the Cancer of Death. Whatever might happen when they do, and what might they find there? Book Three is complete with 500 chapters: right here. Book Four: Power of Ten is dumped into the Marvel Universe. Surely there'll be no changes to canon when that happens? A Fanfiction variant, with teeth! Dynamo The Original Sama Stories: Being posted at: over in this location. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Discord link: in zis location is always up if I'm online. The Simulacrum of Dread
The entities known as the Beings of Old have long since staked claims to most of that gem-shaped manifold which is existence. Their alien, furtive, and impenetrably distant politicking has ebbed and flowed throughout past ages, beyond the awareness of most thinking creatures… and recently, it has begun to accelerate. For Sebastio Artaxerxes - and many civilians outside reality’s facets, especially in the transcendent city of Rhaagm - interest in such matters becomes far more pressing after a madman decides to claim a relic of one of the Olds. Sebastio’s demons tell him that fighting the man he once called friend will only end in tears. His soul tells him that tears are only shed by the living, and that the living at least may overcome regrets with time and effort.

But Ren however, was given something else entirely. “[Loner] title activated, declining invitation to heavenly dome. Remaining in current world…” _____________________________________________________________________ A/N: Ok, so for those wondering about my other fiction, it's still alive. I plan on continuing it, and I plan on posting the next chapter for it about on or after Christmas. The reason for it was because all of my plans, layout, even outline, as well as some chapters I was suppose to release were deleted thanks to a mishap by my classmate. That really triggered me so I got unmotivated, but I plan on continuing it so don't worry. Also, I plan on writing this new series, much more because there is no more classes (CHRISTMAS BREAK HERE I COME!!!), sadly, I still have to take a removal exam because I failed one of my subjects (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!) Well anyway, that's enough for me, enjoy!
