《Blacksmith's Descent Through Dungeon》Chapter 4: Confrontation

If you ask him if he's afraid, Yuuto would instantly say he is. There is no point in saying that he is not. His legs are shaking and his back is full of cold sweat. Truly, for someone like him to face this kind of thing is unfair. Just what did he do to encounter such misfortune.
Yet… he is here in front of this terrifying monster. With what remains in his courage.
"Do you trust me?" he asks the mage, still looking at the behemoth with conviction.
"No… " The mage replied.
'What a direct reply' he screamed in his head . But it is very obvious how you can trust someone you don't know, and for what Yuuto had done. He casually just pushed this girl, carried her, and now he is saying that he wants her to trust him. It was actually late for it.
However, she continued her words. "... But if you have plans I will go with it. "
As he brood at her first words, the mage actually retracted it. She knows that there is no escape from this monster. If there is a chance to survive, there is no reason to not trust a stranger even if it is just a little.
Yuuto also knows this, because at the very first place the only reason they managed to survive up to this moment is the personality of this bastard behemoth. Its hobby of playing with its prey actually helps them.
"Could you throw another fireball? "
She looked at him with doubt "What are you saying? Did you see what happened earlier when I attacked it with my large fireball? Nothing happened to it! " She shouted at him.
"Of course, I saw it but trust me. " he said, still without batting an eye at her. But his words are full of conviction that he didn't need to look at her to convey his feelings.
"Fine" she reluctantly agreed.
Oh great fire
Let this humans guided by you
Give us thy your power
She pointed her wooden staff at the behemoth. A red magic circle emerges from her staff. Slowly reddish particles began to concentrate at the head of her staff. In this distance Yuuto could feel the temperature rising, slightly sweating.

"This is all what I can make."
Compared to earlier, the fireball standing in her staff is much smaller. It was just half a meter. However for his plan, it was just the right size or to say it was perfect.
Yuuto nods at her, seeing that she releases her attack.
"Fireball!!! " she shouted.
In a split second, Yuuto slightly nudged her. The blazing fireball missed its target and instead hit the blazing. Upon impact a cloud of dust blocked their view, not as thick as those earlier but enough to hide the features of somebody.
On his sudden movement, the mage glared at him. Yuuto, even not looking at her can feel the bloodlust coming at her.
"You… " she said, starting with a low voice "What are you doing, did you know that fireball is the last attack spell I can make. Yet, you purposely missed it. What the goddess are you doing! " she shouted at him. She is even squirming and hitting him.
Of course, no one would remain calm. The only thing you thought that would save is suddenly missing its purpose and now you are facing something that can kill you in an instant if it becomes bored.
The behemoth roared at them shaking the foundation of the path, the squirming mage stopped in her tracks. The behemoth without taking any more time swiftly moves forwards. Playtime is finally over, Yuuto and the mage finally arrive at the final act. As it moves forward to them, increasing its speed without stopping. The dungeon shook again. There were no explosions nor something that can cause this. Sensing the abnormal reaction of the dungeon, the behemoth stops its assault.
It looks up, glancing around. The behemoth repeatedly let its prong tongue in and out. A particular behaviour for reptiles to know their surroundings. It happens for a moment but just as fast it stops its track. The behemoth directed its bloodlust towards Yuuto again. In her reflex the mage cast a defensive spell. A bluish transparent wall emerges in front of them. Though it may not stand the destructive force of the behemoth it is better than nothing.
Without wasting any more time, the behemoth continues its assault. Just before the behemoth managed to approach its prey, the dungeon shook once again, stronger than before. Throwing off the monster ever slightly but it was not enough to let its attention get away from Yuuto and the mage. However, the result of the earthquake inside the dungeon loosened the structure. The ceiling forms a large fissure. In that crack large boulders drop down towards the behemoth. Burying the large monster below it.

"I thought that won't work, but that is still anticlimactic" he said.
Though they are not entirely aiming to defeat the behemoth in the most flamboyant way like using explosion and high grade magic. The most important thing is that they survived. But saying that is anticlimactic though they are in a pinch is certainly the words of someone crazy.
The mage looked at him "What the goddess are you saying!" she shouted "Anti-climatic! You can still say that when that monster is just breath away from us, " she scolded him, punching his shoulder "and what are you saying that 'I thought that won't work' are you saying that you don't really have a plan. '' she added
He wryly smiled at her. His plan was entirely a bet. Yuuto really didn't expect to survive this situation. If he would say the chances of winning his gamble is not fifty fifty but rather ninety-ten, where the ninety percent in the chance they will die. Considering his luck, this was a miracle itself.
"Actually, if you didn't attack using that large fireball and the last fireball. This all won't work"
Certainly, the reason they managed to survive this ordeal is because of the chain of events. The large explosion, the roar of the behemoth that can shake the dungeon, and the small fireball that hit the ceiling. Without all of these things the ceiling won't collapse above the behemoth.
As he watches the large mountain of boulders in front of them, a large pool of blood flows underneath it. Symbolising the death of the behemoth.
"But I still have doubts how large boulders can kill the behemoth but not your large fireball. I saw how it was formed and hit the behemoth, I still can't believe that it survived that" he asks the mage.
She sighs and regains her composure "Probably, the scales of the behemoth have large anti-magic resistance. In normal case though the large fireball spell that I cast earlier would hurt it but this behemoth didn't get even a scratch. I guess this monster has been an adult for a while now." she said while her hand was on her chin."Wait, how didn't you know this, an adventurer should know the basic attributes of a dungeon monster." she added.
"I don't know, I am a blacksmith, not an adventurer" he instantly replied, shrugging his shoulders.
"hmmm, yes that should make sense" she nods her head. Suddenly she realized something from his words "Can you repeat what you said again? "
"I am a blacksmith not an adventurer"
She could just look at him with silence. Her eyes are full of shock from what she heard from this man.
"How could someone, who professed himself like a blacksmith and not an adventurer , manage to survive in a dungeon up to the fiftieth floor?" she said in shock.
"What! the fiftieth floor? " Yuuto looked at her, shocked with what she revealed to him.
He could not believe what she was saying. Yuuto, who is just mining in the first floor and suddenly falls down in a hole, is now in the low levels and to boot it the fiftieth floor. But this revelation could explain things that he witnessed, the unnatural growth of mana crystal, the never-ending dungeon, and that bastard behemoth. It would make sense if he is in the low levels.
'But how can I be alive. I can't believe this' he muttered to himself.
Of course, Yuuto couldn't make an assumption that he is the low level. If you fall in a hole, from the first floor to the fiftieth floor. It would instantly mean that you are going to die. From that distance no living human couldn't survive.
Both of them look at each other with shock. Yuuto who had fallen to low levels and somewhat surviving and the golden colored hair mage in her arms who could not also believe that somewhat this blacksmith and not officially an adventurer manage to reach the low levels.

Wildling
Blurb: Silas--a scavenger living off the ruins of humanity--has spent his entire life fighting tooth and nail to provide for himself and his crew. But when a scavenging run goes awry and he's snatched up by an android patrol, he finds himself thrown into a cage and priced to sell as a pet. And when a suitor comes calling, he fears the worst: that he'll be turned into a Domestic, a human lapdog brainwashed into total obedience. Instead, he discovers an equally disturbing truth: that the creatures who stole his world have created a videogame the likes of which Earth has never seen; a sprawling, game-like theme park where humans are the Avatars and androids are the players who control them. And to make matters worse, his android guide is as hopeless as they come, having gotten all of her previous Avatars killed in record time. So if Silas wants to regain his freedom, he'll not only have to fight his way through a world that was specifically designed to murder him in brutal fashion--he'll also have to convince his android guide that he should be the one calling the shots. FAQS: Q: Who are you, handsome stranger? A: I'm Kyle Kirrin, the author of Shadeslinger, book 1 of The Ripple System, published by Portal Books, and I write crunchy LitRPG. Q: What is Wildling? And is it complete? A: Wildling is a crunchy LitRPG mash up of Fantasy and Science Fiction. And yup, Wildling is already complete at 64 chapters, or about 120,000 thousand words. You're looking at something like a third draft here--it's fairly polished, but it hasn't been picked over by a copy editor yet nor has my developmental editor seen it. Q: Upload schedule? A: 5 initial chapters today (2/15/2021) and one chapter a day for the next month. After that I'll probably slow down to 2 or 3 chapters a week until the story is complete. Q: How crunchy is it? A: It's pretty crunchy. I'd put it on the same tier as Ascend/The Land/RSSG, but it might be a bit crunchier than those three? Q: Is this the first book in a series or a web novel or what? And what are your plans for it? A: It's currently a standalone with series potential. Full disclosure: this story may head the way of my publisher eventually, but will be available on RR for quite a while no matter what. Likely several months after it's complete with plenty of warning before/if it's taken down. Q: What kind of build does the MC create? A: Sword and board! Q: Crafting? A: Plenty! Crafting isn't as center stage as it is in The Way of the Shaman, but it's close. Q: Base building? A: Two fully separate, distinct bases, both of which play a major role in the story. Q: VRMMO? Portal? Reincarnation or what? A: This one's a bit tricky. Basically an advanced race has created a game-like world that closely resembles a theme park. Think Westworld but with copious amounts of loot. And the MC has to fight his way through that to earn his freedom. Q: Permadeath? A: Nope! The MC gets 3 lives to play through the entirety of the game world, and death is extremely punishing, but not fatal. Q: Harem? Or romance? A: No and no. Q: Cursing? Blood? A: Quite a bit of cursing, yeah. There's blood, too, but it's not a gory book by any means. Q: How can I support? A: Instead of a Patreon/donations etc, I'd ask that you consider giving my debut LitRPG Shadeslinger a chance. It's free on Kindle Unlimited and the audio is already out narrated by Travis Baldree. It's an epic fantasy VRMMO where the main character gets 3 days of exclusive access to a new game plus a snarky, talking axe to guide him through it in exchange for agreeing to become the target of a serverwide manhunt once the Head Start period ends. Q: How's it similar to Wildling? And how's it different? A. The crunch level is very similar, but Shadeslinger is a much lighter, epic fantasy take on the genre. It's also VRMMO, but without any real world components aside from the first chapter. The MC is very different--he comes off as a bit of a jerk early on and can take a bit to warm up to, especially before his backstory is revealed--but he's also got a talking axe that constantly puts him in his place. Shadeslinger's a much more humorous story in general, and it's a great deal more polished as well. Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy Wildling!
