《Blacksmith's Descent Through Dungeon》Chapter 3: Hiding is really futile

The only thing left in the middle is the menacing figure of the behemoth enjoying its meal.

Without hesitation, it chomps down the already beaten body of the mage. As it savours the taste of the blood in her flesh. It suddenly turns to dust, soiling the mouth of the behemoth. The last desperate spell from the mage managed to extend her time, Earth dummy, an intermediary earth-based spell where it used the figure and blood of the user to create a semi-realistic dummy. Momentarily stunned, the behemoth remains frozen.

Knowing that her spell had just been dispelled, the mage swiftly cast a new short-chant spell. Pale-light green magic circles emerge underneath her foot. It was simply a wind-based spell called Swift. The duration and power of the spell directly proportionate to the amount of mana directed towards the spell. Given her situation, with exhaustion and nearly expend mana from conjuring a large fireball and earth dummy. Swift can only give her speed slightly faster than her normal pace.

'I just need to get out of its way just even if a little' she thought, running out of breath.

Meanwhile…

Yuuto just by hearing the screams and the sound of rocks falling, knows that 'party' did not manage to survive or even escape. His stomach began to scrunch and sligh stomach acid began to climb in his throat.

He peeks again, there he finds something emerging from the smoke. A single girl in tattered clothes and bloodied face running for her own life. Just by looking at her Yuuto instantly recognized her, she was the mage in the party. Looking at her, what he imagined earlier was confirmed.

So without hesitation, he moves his still trembling body. Yuuto snatches the exhausted mage to his side.

He can certainly be called an Idiot, a selfish idiot, who in their right mind would save someone you didn't know. Who would save someone that is being chased by an 'A-rank' monster certainly it was him. In the Dungeon nothing is more important than your life, no gold, treasure, and gift can be exchanged. In a sense how can you do this thing if you die.

However, his consciousness could not swallow the fact that he would let this mage go and die. In his selfishness his body moves in its own.

Before Yuuto could explain the things on the mage, the behemoth suddenly roars. Losing his prey the monster is certainly pissed off. In monsters stealing one's prey means paying with your own life.

The behemoth crawled toward their direction. He could feel the tremors slowly getting stronger as it approached them. Yuuto then peek again at his side and there he found the part of the monster. Its snout slowly reveals itself, just by standing there Yuuto can smell the fowl and fishy scent of the monster. However, he had no luxury to block his nose off.

Yuuto firmly put his back in the crystal. While on it he also blocked off the mage's mouth with his hand. He heard a small shriek, he half expected this to happen however he never really thought that it would actually happen. Yuuto could just empathize with her.

'I'm gonna apologize to her later.' he thought to himself.

But first they need to escape the impending doom that is just beside them. Bit by bit the snout of the behemoth reveals itself more. His heart began to beat more, as if you could hear it. Momentarily his breathing even stops for a moment. One wrong move can spell his death. However, small inconveniences are just small sacrifices for their survival.

As it reached his body, the already nervous Yuuto began to feel his blood flushed aways. His face began to pale and his legs slowly lost its strength, not counting that it was already shaking. Just an inch before the snout truly touched him, the behemoth suddenly retracted its snout.

'did it lose interest in us?' he asks himself, slowly regaining his breathing.

Yuuto wants to celebrate, he even wants to shout his joy out. Though there is something bothering his heart. 'Where did I feel this before? ' it was something familiar, too familiar that it certainly just happened not too long ago. A chill ran down his spine, in that instant it hit him. That's right it was the same feeling before he had fallen down.

Without thinking, he grabbed the mage beside him and carried her in a 'princess carry'. The mage suddenly jolted out, Yuuto had no time to explain the situation to her. If what his guts say is true then that means what will happen next is something that both Yuuto and her can lead to death.

Even with his legs losing strength he pushed his feeble body to run forward. He can't afford to die this time. All of his effort from running, surviving, and somewhat 'saving' this girl will be naught if that monster catches up to them. Thinking back to it, how did he end up doing this kind of thing? Surely he can only know it.

The ground shook once again, as for the source the behemoth rushed forward to the crystal where Yuuto and the mage was hiding beforehand. If they didn't move from it the consequences could be death. Without looking back, since he cant really afford it Yuuto can feel that what broke to pieces is that mana crystal.

Once hearing it, he sprinted once again. However, as he tried to step forward his body seemed to disobey his command. No matter how much he puts at it, his body won't move. It was if just like the last time.

'Please… don't be there' he pleaded, slight cold sweat can be seen on his forehead.

Yuuto slowly turned his head, there he found that monster silently watching him once again. The behemoth slowly stood up with a glint in its eyes. A wave of dark miasma hit him. His remaining strength suddenly gets flush down.

He let out a small groan. 'I cannot go down here… ' he said to himself. With what was left on him. He looked straight at the menacing figure of the behemoth.

Replying to him, the behemoth just let out another wave of miasma. At the impact Yuuto once again lost his strength. Yet he remains standing. The behemoth let out a smirk, if It can. The behemoth looks at him, scouting what he will do.

Probably, just by looking at him the behemoth knows that he can't do anything even if he asks for the help of the mage. In the first place in the behemoth perspective the humans in front of him are just insects and he is the top of the food chain.

"Do you trust me? " he asked the mage, looking at the behemoth with conviction.
