Chapter 4
Roan's point of view.
After the two old foggies walks out of the room, silence spreads among the room.
Sniff- sobs- we didnt notice that the chestnut colored hair girl started crying.
For now, lets change the atmosphere. So I stood up, took a deep breath and said. "Alright... For now, lets introduce ourselves."
But the guy with the glasses said "Lets do that later, let her cry it out"
Hrmm.. I guess the girl cant talk while crying. 'Ugh, obvious mistake.'
A few moments later. The dude with the black hair and simple shirt stood up and looked outside the windows.
Looking outside its already sunset. It was morning to me like half an hour ago.
'Am I gonna get a jet-lag?' was the first thought came to me. Truthfully, I don't feel any kind of crisis at all. Its kinda like logging in into the VR game again. That sort of feeling.
"Do you think there's magic here at all?" Ask by the glasses dude.
I took a moment to think and said "I guess so? We got summoned here so... Yeah? And the old man said we can get half the magic and spell back home or something"
"Magic exists" Black hair dude said by the window. Glasses dude made an angry glare at him until he saw him pointing outside.
"I see, I thought you were being sarcastic. They're shooting fire out of their hands." Glasses said so.
Looking outside, I saw people with robes shooting red balls of lights onto a wall. Knight-like people with shining blades hitting dummies. 'Swords and magic huh? I guess we got that setting here.'
After our short interactions, the crying girl stood up. Clearly done crying. "Thank you, miss" she thanked the other girl.

"You sure you're fine?" She asked with a worried tone.
"I'm all good. How about you? You don't seem fine to me." Cry girl replied.
"I wasn't at first, but when the old man said we can go back somehow, I felt relieved but the long wait isn't really making me happy. Now I just want to know whats going to happen next."
I was about to asked their names before.... "Before that, can we introduce ourselves first?" Said the black hair dude. 'You took my line, yo.'
"Tristan. Tristan Denver" glasses- Tristan intro'd himself while pushing his glasses. Brown colored hair. He wears a shirt with "evoke it!" print design and khaki shorts. He feel's like the class reps in class.
"Roan Hiiro. You can call me Roan." With a nice tone. I intro'd myself. Now that I noticed. I'm wearing my uniform. Well, I was about to go to school anyways.
"Fianne Cellania. Just Fia for short. Sorry for the outburst earlier." She introduced. Looking closely, she's kinda cute. She's also wearing a uniform and it looks good on her. She has a modest chest. She's cute but.... not my type.
"Amelia Strauss. Ami should be fine. Sorry for... Crying earlier. I have no idea what was going on."
She introduced while apologizing. Looking at her she has a cute face, small body with a big chest. 100% my type!!
Let's remove those thought for now. Blackie's turn.
"My name is Raze. Razelux Valence." Simple with a clear voice. Looking at what he's wearing. He looks like an NPC Villager with those clothes, except for that face. I admit he's good looking but not as handsome as me though.
With that done, everyone now knew each other's name. Now the next question is....

"What do we do now? They said they're not forcing us but I doubt that. You cant let a freeloader do nothing, right?"
"We're more likely a hostage than a freeloader. They said they will protect us but I fe-" "Hold up. Dont talk yet."Raze got interrupted by Tristan.
Tristan showed his stone to us and put it on the table. "This stone seems like they translate our words. Before you guys say something important, put it on the table. We don't know if they have ears on the walls."
Oh crap!! Is what I thought, i just had the urge to throw it. If Tristan didn't mentioned that, I might have forgotten we were still holding onto this stones. And right now we are at an unknown territory. We're still not exactly 'safe'.
After everyone placed their stones on the table, the talk continued.
"Ahem, continue" Tristan urge.
Raze nod. "I was meaning to say that we shouldn't trust them easily. We still don't know what other intentions they have. Lets just stay vigilant."
"Agreed." (Tristan)
Everyone gave a affirmative nod.
"Well... They said they summoned us to ask for help to defeat some evil. And also, they did mentioned they are not forcing us to join the war. Thats good intention, right?" I said while recalling what the old men said.
Tristan gave gave it a thought for a second, his hand on chin.
"Look at a different view, Roan. They summoned us to be weapons. If we we refuse to be weapons then..." Tristan paused for a moment and looked at everyone.
"....Then probably as a source of new knowledge?" Fia answered.
"There's a high chances, yeah." (Tristan)
"But what if they didn't ask for knowledge, or even if they did and we refuse... What will happen then?" Amelia asked a question after Fia.
When she said that, I had few bad images inside my head and but shook it away immediately.
This is actually not good huh? I thought.
Silence came for moment. Tristan had an answer for that question but didn't say it out loud. He looked at their facial expression so see if they had the same thought. uneasy silence continued within the room and each of them had an idea but no one tried to speak their minds.
The three of us guys in the group stared at each other, waiting for anyone of us to speak.
Most likely we didn't want to say any frightening words to the girls.
'Should I say it? It will leave a bad taste if I say it for sure.' While I was in the middle of making a decision, blac- Raze spoke.
"I apologize for the words l'm about to speak. Something bad might happen. Probably they might put us on slavery. Or they may even dispose of us since we aren't any use."
Slavery!! Right, since this is a different world, most likely slaveries exist here. I only thought about being caged here forever or being killed. Being slaved is far worst.
The girls had an expression of fear and despair.
"I'm sorry for my words. Please calm down" (Raze)
"Don't cry, we'll be here for you two" (Roan)
"We'll think of something, don't worry"(Tristan)
Each of us tried to make the girls calm. It took a few minutes to finally made them calm.
"We need a plan. A countermeasure for those situations."

Tales From the Terran Republic
We tried, you know… We really did. We tried so hard to be… better… We actually were better once. No, seriously. We were enlightened, generous, peaceful… Stop laughing! We were! We were peaceful, dammit! No, I’m not “tugging your winglets.” It’s true! Look, if you’re going to be like that, I’ll just push the launch button right now. See ya, don’t wanna be… Oh, you ARE interested after all? Ok. Hey, I just got word that your captain will be ok. We were able to get him into a med pod quick enough… Of course, we tried to save him. Just what sort of people do you think we are?... Now that was harsh… completely accurate, mind you… but harsh. Anyway, like I was saying, we were a prosperous, peaceful people, and war had been nothing but a distant memory for over five hundred years before it happened... Before Yellowstone happened! You don’t mean to tell me that you didn’t know about that… massive supervolcano? Blew the Hell out of our planet? Two years where nothing grew?… Anyway, that’s what started it, the Sol Wars… Oh, you have heard about those, huh? Well, needless to say, all that enlightened, generous, and peaceful didn’t exactly make it through the two years of complete famine and the wars that followed… Maybe it’s more accurate to say the enlightened, generous, and peaceful among us didn’t survive… (laughs)… You’re right. It does explain a lot, doesn’t it? Probably for the best, though. “Enlightened” and “peaceful” aren’t really all that useful out here in the galaxy at large, are they? That reminds me; thanks for the ship. You guys did a great job with this one. Oh, don’t be like that. At least it was us what got you and not one of the really messed groups like the Harlequin or the Black Angels. We’re just going to take your shit. It could be worse… trust me... Well, anyway, we loaded the life pods down with some good food, and you guys can drink alcohol, right? We put in a couple of fifths in there, too. It’s about forty percent ethanol, so be warned. Most species will want to dilute that. We’ll drop your wounded off somewhere safe once they are stable. Your fleet patrols this area fairly regularly, and we’ll drop the distress beacon right before we jump… Well, It’s been fun and no hard feelings, right?… Oh, you want to know some more? Sure. I got time to kill… Let me tell you about this one pirate and her crew. They’re Terran scum, but they are still… Why do we hate the Terrans? Hoo Boy… How much time you got? *** It’s the thirty-second century, and humanity is now part of a galactic civilization comprised of hundreds of worlds. Humanity has been savaged by natural disaster and war and has been fractured into several separate populations, all of which loathe each other (some things never change). This is a gritty drama-driven rambling tale that swings between action, drama, horror, and plenty of very, very dark comedy. Warning: contains adult situations, absolutely horrible language, bathroom humor, implied ultra-violence, actual ultra-violence, drugs, alcohol, pirates, mercs, xeno prostitutes, moral ambiguity, deranged AI's with identity issues, giant commie space slugs, and a poor little frog girl who just wants to sell coffee. Updates twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday. *** Note: This story can get rough. Those warning tags? They aren't for show. I recently received a review and as a result I want to make one thing clear. Portraying something is NOT endorsing it! Many "heavy" topics are touched upon and just because a character says or does something does not imply that the author feels the same way. I selected the "Anti-Hero Lead" and "Villainous Lead" tags for a reason. Rule number one of this story is "no good guys". A good description of the story is, "bad people doing bad things to worse people". There are a few good characters, here and there, but they are the exception to the rule. If you want a hard-hitting, exciting, gritty sci-fi story that doesn't pull any punches, or shies away from "difficult" concepts, welcome! If you are set on a pure and noble knight that runs around and slays conveniently evil monsters and rescues totally innocent princesses... or your sensibilities are easily offended... You're not going to be happy with this one.

Of Gods and Dungeons
March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.
