How does one sleep when they find out they’d just discovered magic?

The answer is simple. They don’t.

Josiah could not fall asleep after that. How could he? He had just managed to do magic, something he had only ever dreamed of. His dreams of wielding fire and creating massive storms from nothing was coming to fruition. He was ecstatic, beyond Euphoric! The previous drowsiness that had overcome him before was completely gone as he continued taking in different strands of energy within the zone.

Of the thousands of variations, he found the 4 that all wizards needed to start off with. The first one was the red strand which, as he had learned, was Fire. The next was a deep blue strand of energy that gave off a wet and serene feeling, Water. The next a dull brown strand that had a tough and compact feel to it, Earth. And finally, a dull grey strand that felt like freedom, Air.

Josiah paid little to no attention to the rest. It wasn't that he didn’t care for them, it was just that he didn’t want to go too far too quickly and decided to opt for the basics instead of the more advanced stuff. At least, he believed it was advanced.

Either way, Josiah drained his reserves that night. He had practiced all 4 elements where he sat in the room until he had eventually passed out from lack of energy. Still as he slept he had a grin on his face, his excitement unable to subside even when he was out.

~~~~~~~~(06:55 AM)~~~~~~~~
“Dude!”
“Dude! Get up!” shouted Harry as he shook Josiah awake.
To the rude awakening, Josiah shot forward in a daze, head aching from the previous nights efforts, “Wa---who...wh--ere is th...this?” He said,” Urhg!” as he held his head in his arms as a headache overtook him for running out of energy 4 hours prior.
“You ok?” asked Harry, seeing his friend in such a state.
Josiah waved it off before replying,” Its ok, just over did it last night.” He said as he massaged his tempel, knowing fairly well it would do nothing to calm the pain, only aggravate it more instead.
“Cool, well we need to get going if we want to get breakfast today. You know how the coach is, if we miss breakfast we won’t be eating anything but snacks till lunch.” Said Harry as he picked Josiah off the floor of their room.
Around them, several beds were already empty as people had long since gone out to get some food before they had to start on whatever task was needed or guarding their location. The rest was full of people that had returned from the night shift and were busy sleeping their fatigue and mental exhaustion away.
Still fighting off the headache, Josiah followed Harry out of the room and toward the staircase to the first floor.
“So what did you do last night?” Asked Harry a little curious as to why he had tried to get past the glowing wall again.
“Uh…..yeah….” Said Josiah as he tried to come up with a lie to cover his discovery,” I was just...uh...practicing Sev! I was practicing Sev and overused my energy, that's what happened.” he said quickly hoping that Harry would believe it. He wasn’t trying to hide it so that he’d be the only one to use it, he just wanted to make it a surprise for everyone.
Harry looked at him for a second, tilting his head to the side as they both made their way down the stair,” Dude…” began Harry as he shook his head with a slight smile,” I know you well enough to know that when you start scratching the back of your neck, your lying straight out of your ass.” He said with a slight chuckle. Harry knew fair well that Josiah was incapable of scheming something sinister even if he tried, so Harry wasn’t worried in the slightest. Josiah was also terrible with secrets. Knowing that, Harry could only wonder what his friend was trying to hide so much.
‘Dang it!’ thought Josiah. He cursed himself for forgetting his terrible habits. Still even though Harry knew something was up, Josiah refused to elaborate upon anything other than,” I’ll show you after breakfast.”
~~~~~~~

Leo swallowed the mixture of stomach acid and beetle soup that was making its way up his throat, all the while holding a gag. He absolutely hated beetle soup, and wished he could get his hands on some more raptor steak, even if it gave him one killer stomach ache afterwards.

“You enjoying that Leo?” asked Ranzer as everyone where they were sitting tried their hardest not to laugh.

Seeing this, an annoyed Leo responded,” No! Not one bit! It's terrible and tastes like my grandpa’s cooking, scratch that, this is worse than the stale leather steak I get from breakfast when I’m over there. One of these days you’ll understand my misery Ranzer.”

His response only fueled more laughter out of his friends. “I never said I didn’t understand.” Said Ranzer with a chuckle,” Beetle soup is bad, but I’m not overreacting to it.”

“And who said I was!?” Shouted Leo, throwing his hands up in the air,” This is my genuine reaction to this Sh*t. It's just that bad. Trust me I’ve Had my share of bad food and this one takes top spot.”

“Quit complaining.” Said Niko,” I have a cook for a father and let me tell you there is a clear contrast between his cooking and this.” He said, pointing at his half-finished bowl of soup.

“I honestly don’t think it's that bad.” Said Josiah,” It tastes ok to me.”

To his word nearly everyone around stared at him in shocked bemusement.

“Who hurt you?” Asked Leo, utterly revolted by the statement.

“He hurt himself.” Replied Harry.” This man” he slapped Josiah’s back,” is the definition of gross feeder, He eats every freaking thing he can find if he’s hungry. Back in the second grade, I still vividly remember catching and eating bugs when he got hungry during recess.”

This earned multiple restraint giggles from the people around them, with most a little grossed out.

“I did not!” Shouted Josiah as his face flushed red.

“Hey, I’m gonna be honest with y'all, grilled crickets? That's my stuff right there.” Said Leo wishing he could get some right about now.

“Facts Right there!” Zane Agreed, much to everyone's surprise, “What?” He said, raising his shoulders,” Grilled crickets are good, then you have escargot!”

“Eww!” said most of the people around them in mild disgust.

“What y’all mean eww?! Add in some Brandy cream sauce and you're golden. That thing will explode your taste buds!”

“Hell yes! With garlic bread to the side…..” said Zane Shaking his head as he and Leo’s mouths began salivating.

“Y’all need to stop talking about food. I was just getting full with this, but now I’m hungry again!” Said Niko, prompting everyone to laugh once more.

These types of random conversations kept up for the duration of breakfast as they ate up their soup. After that they had to sit around for about 30 minutes to let their stomach ache pass before they could get on with their work for the day.

“Ok guys.” Began Josiah, getting everyone's attention.” I have something I want to show you.”

Immediately Leo responded with,” Is It about Sev!?’ with his eyes beaming like a little kid. Needless to say the others were wondering the same things.

Josiah stood up from the floor before replying,” Close, but...uh….just watch” he said moving back from the group. He outstretched both hands and began calling out his Mana.

When a Purplish-Blue energy began to coil around Josiah’s hands, everyone had suddenly stopped talking and watched with admiration and curiosity at a very distinct change from the color of Sev. It did not take long for the entirety of Velysium hall to realize something was up as all heads turned towards Josiah.

Coach McConnell who was running laps with Officer Wheeler both stopped to take a look. The Principal and Mrs.Stillwater who were talking near the stairwells both also looked over to see what was happening. Hearing the silence outside, people that had been within the classrooms made their way out in confusion before they too became silent as the display.

Josiah had never tried this during his training session early this morning, however he wanted something cool to show everyone. Thus he began to gather the mana to the center of his outstretched hands, and with his will, a spark of fire flashed as the gathering energy changed rapidly into a ball of fire. A ball of fire that grew gradually as more and more mana was pumped into it.

Jaws dropped and eyes nearly popped out of their sockets as people looked on in shock as the growing fireball. A red glow started to settle on Josiah and the people around him as they all began to feel the heat emanating from it.

“Holy Sh*t!” Said Ranzer as he stood from the bench, slowly setting down his empty bowl.

“Josiah….How are y---” Before Harry could continue, he was interrupted by Josiah, who was reaching the limit of what he could control.

“Not now Harry!” Said Josiah hurriedly,” I need to focus!”

At this point Josiah had stopped feeding his mana into the ball for fire. He had drained practically ¾ of his mana reserves and felt that if he added any more to the fireball he wouldn’t be able to control it. Still the thing was proving to already be a strenuous endeavor to control.

Josiah maneuvered the Fireball to the center of the Hall, elevating it a little higher. The further the Ball got from him the more the Mana drained from it and into the air around them. Still it was sizable and thus, Josiah let go of his control of the ball while willing it to explode.

“YEAHH!!!!!!”

“WE GOT MAGIC!!” Screamed Leo

The sudden Explosion startled a few people, but many more were screaming louder than the explosion as the smoke created by the explosion cleared, revealing a darkened floor. Harry, Leo, Zane, Ranzer, and a few others tackled Josiah to the floor, piling on top of him as he smiled with glee.

It didn’t take long for people to being shushing each other, especially the Coach, and when realization dawned on everyone, silence befell the hall again.

There were very few Beetles on the second floor, which was why a lot of people could be a little louder there than on the first floor. On the first floor, the beetles were much more active, so loud noises would easily attract them if they were not careful…..Noises like the explosion and all the screaming that had happened.

‘Fuck…’ thought Josiah. He hadn’t thought things through before detonating the fireball, he just wanted to show off his new ability but didn’t think of the repercussions. Tunnel Vision.

“Equipment on now!” Shouted the Coach,” I want people on every Barricade in a minute! Hurry it up.”

The coach didn’t have to tell everyone twice before they dropped their bowls and rushed for their weapons and beetle plated armors.

It did not take long for frantic screeching to reach everyone's ears.

~~~~~~~~(011:20 AM)~~~~~~~~
“I’m sorry, I’m Sorry, I’m so sorry.” Said Josiah as he stood in front of coach McConnel, the rest of the adults, with numerous other teens. All of them sitting about and resting from a long fight and clean up.
This beetle raid had been the worst one they’ve had ever since gaining the ability to use Sev. Not only did the beetles break through the first floor barricades, but the second floor as well. A lot of people were badly injured, and bandaged heavily with whatever the nurse could scrape out from their dwindling medical supplies. On the plus side, they had a lot more Mega beetle parts to work with.
“I’m----”
Josiah was interrupted as Coach McConnel raised his hand to stop him from going any further. Even Coach McConnell Hadn’t been spared from injuries and had a bandage warped around his head where a Mega had struck him. It was honestly a miracle he was alive.
“Honestly.” Began the principal,” This is everyone's fault Josiah. Everyone cheered, Everyone attracted the beetles, we are as responsible for it as yourself.”
“The more important question is the fireball.” Said Coach McConnell, to which numerous people nodded in agreement, most excited at the prospect of learning magic.
“I can explain that.” Said Mr.Val
“Me as well.” joined Mr.Valko.
Coach McConnell turned to them with a spark of surprise in his eyes that disappeared seconds later. “Explain.” He said as the 2 adults began to think about what to say.
“Well.” Began Mr.Val,” remember when we tried to enhance the brain's functions using Sev?” He asked to which people began nodding, a few with a bit of a grimace as they remembered trying it out and passing out for a long while. “We kept up with that for about 2 weeks now, and I guess this was the result.”
“You guess?”, questioned coach McConnel as he raised an eyebrow.
“Well you see,” started Mr.Valko,” over the course of the past 2 weeks we discovered that the brain didn’t accept Sev just randomly it---”
Mr.Valko explained everything they had found in the 2 weeks, the Access points, the brian pathway, how sensitive the brain was to having Sev go outside of that pathway, the impassable wall, and their many attempts to get past it.
“Ok, I guess that explains why you were acting so weird.” Said the Principal,” But that doesn’t explain how Josiah was able to do….well...Magic.” She said with a shrug.
At this point all eyes went to Josiah, who had been standing behind Mr.Val and Mr.Valko, took a deep breath before he started explaining what he had done to be able to use magic,” Um, so what I did was fairly simple. I went through the wall and----”
“Hold on, didn’t Mr.Valko say that lead to an excruciating headache?” Interrupted the coach.
“I-Its does.” Said Josiah as he began fidgeting a bit,” But if you start from the access point and go through your pathway quickly without stopping and hit the wall, you’ll break through.”
“Hold on!” Shouted Harry,” so all we had to do was hit harder!?”
Josiah Nodded as he continued,” After that, I thought nothing had happened, but when I entered the Zone to catch up on my training, there were a lot more strands of energy with probably thousands of variations. I think breaking the wall might have allowed the brain to perceive more than just one type of energy.”
“Well I guess We’ll put this discussion to another time, we all need a rest.” Said Coach McConnel as he yawned,” this however doesn’t mean all of you aren’t getting punished, I would like a heads up when you're doing something like this so the other adults and I don’t get paranoid you guys are scheming something.”
Mr.Val and Mr.Valko rolled their eyes but didn’t dare say anything,” So” continued the coach,” Before I go get some rest, everyone who was part of this has to give me 300 push-ups each.”
“What!” screamed multiple people from the crowd along with Mr.Val and Mr.Valko whose eyes had become as big as saucers.
“But coach! We just got down fighting beetles! We're tired too!” Came multiple complaints from those who had taken parts of the experiment. The people who hadn’t taken part of it each began walking away before they had to do something as well.
“Wheeler, could you go get the other that stays in that room of theirs.” asked the Coach as officer Wheeler nodded and headed to the stairs. Turning his attention back to the group in front of him the coach gave a scary smile, “ Come on, the more y'all keep standing there the worse it's going to get.”
When groans escaped the mouths of students he raised the amount of push-ups they all had to do to 350, promptly making everyone drop to the floor and getting on with their punishment.
~~~~~~~~(25:40 PM)~~~~~~~~

After the hellish punishment from Coach McConnel, everyone that had taken part in the experiment practically collapsed from exhaustion, especially those who had fought the beetles before.

After a very long rest, Coach McConnel allowed them to all unlock this magic. Though they didn’t understand much of it, it would still be a very valuable tool in their survival and having people use it would help them tremendously.

Other people wanted to join in with magic, however it was due to take them maybe around 2 weeks time to unlock it, thus Coach McConnel promised that he would squeeze time within training to have everyone unlock the potential to use magic.

Night had fallen as the 50th day of Armageddon was soon coming to end. This left some people how much longer they would be able to survive as time passed on.

Apart from the depressing thoughts passing around, dinner had been served and mostly everyone, not tasked with guarding the barricades, were eating their beetle soup while discussing a very ‘serious’ issue.

“What should we call ourselves?” Asked Harry, as a group of ‘newly enlightened wizards’ ate their food.

“What do you mean?” question Josiah in confusion as many others wonder the same question.

“I mean being called ‘The Wizards’ by everyone is just lame. We need a cool name, like The Order of The Arcane or something.” Continued Harry.

“I agree, but The Order of The Arcane sounds way too cringy, I mean look at the acronyms, TOTA? That’s stupid. Plus it also implies we're messing with the Arcane, which I’m not even sure that's what we're doing.” Replied Hamila.

“She got a point there Harry,” said Josiah, ignoring the look his friend was giving him.

“Ok then, What would y'all name it?” Asked Harry

“Honestly I just like ‘The Wizards'. Why change anything?” interjected Mr.Valko

“Nah, I agree with them. The Wizards is a lazy name choice.” K disagreed.

“How about The Sorcerers of the Mystic Arts?” Said someone

“No, that sounds copyrighted from that one superhero movie with the Sorcerer Supreme Nero-surgeon with broken hands,” said another.

“The Fuck? It's the apocalypse who cares about Copyrights!!”

“Still no.”

“How about the Edgelords!” said Leo, earning a few hysterical laughter from a few people, which ended in them being shushed in case they attracted more beetles to their location.

“Frick you Leo!”

“Why not the consortium of magic?” asked someone else.

“Do you even know what a consortium is?”

“It's a group of people, dumbass.”

“You know what I got it.” Said Josiah,” let's combine Consortium and Magic to get like….um… magiconsortium?’

“NO”

“Ok, Masortium?” continued Josiah.

“Hell No!”

“Magictium?” said Josiah with a shrug.

“Not that either.” Replied Harry.

“Magtorium?’ Asked Josiah

“Just pick Edgelords man.” Said Leo

“Leo I swear to god, you are not part of this conversation so shut up!” Said Halima with a glare in Leo’s direction

“Magorium?”

“Almost there but we can do better right?’

“Ok, I...um, M-Magisterium, I’m not coming up with any names anymore, last one. What do y'all think?” Asked Josiah just about ready to move on with things.

Everyone stayed quiet for a bit until Harry responded,” you know that's not bad. I’m game for Magisterium.” he said.

“I guess.” Said Halima, taking another scoop of her soup.

Not everyone agreed with the name, however, the majority of the wizards had taken a liking to it, so by ‘democratic’ means the Magisterium was born.

Finishing his food, coach McConnel got up to wash his own bowl, but before he felt he said,” This is all cool and stuff, but Riken you’re in charge, Malcolm you're backing him up on that, keep the kid alive.”

To his words Mr.Valko choked on his soap, he had wanted nothing to do with leading a team of wizards, all he wanted was to delve into a realm he had long since stopped believing in, only reignited by the apocalypse.

Malcolm spat out the water he had been drinking over the people in front of him, prompting many cries of disgust, as well as anger.

“Malcolm!” said K,” Do you know how long it takes to separate the dirt from the water! Stop wasting it!”

“Sorry…” replied Malcolm as he ran after Coach McConnel, seeking to get out of that possition.

“Still think Edgelords would have been bett---” before Leo could continue, Halima’s bowl of soap struck home on his head, rocking the poor man to floor and out colder than if he had taken Nyquil.

[Day 51 {week 6}] - Gammaday - February 10, 0000 A.A

Coach McConnel and the Principal had given the Magisterium 4 classrooms, whose walls could be folded to form one larger room, as a place to study and experiment with magic. It would also serve as their own room to rest in.

Currently all of them were busy trying to learn as much as they could from the magic under the supervision of Mr.Valko and Malcolm.

The first thing the Magisterium changed was the inefficiency in channeling energy.

This had been an accidental find on the part of some of the magisterium members who were trying to see if there were similar pathways in the body like the pathways in the brain. And as it turned out, there were. Thus because no one had set a direct pathway for the mana or Sev to take, they discovered that that the energy they saw swirling around their hands was actually leaking as it didn’t know where exactly to go to be used.

By forming a pathway and Access points for the Mana or Sev to flow, there would be less leakage, meaning more energy available to actually use rather than waste. Designating the nervous system as the pathway was the most efficient method for Mana, its access point was the brain. For Sev, the cardiovascular system had the greatest effect, its access point was the heart.

Even though everyone benefited tremendously from this discovery, there were still a few problems. For one, messing with the Nervous and Cardiovascular system was dangerous, Zainab's previous stupidity had proven that. So everyone needed to be careful in following the pathways of their Nervous and Cardiovascular system to the letter and not jumble paths together. One of the Wizards nearly killed himself when the flow in this Cardiovascular system was reversed. It was only thanks to Mr.Valko who forcefully flipped them again that he survived.

After that incident, if it hadn’t already been known, people began to take the fun force they had long for as children more seriously.

The Magisterium also noted that Mana and Sev came from the same source. The first strand which Zane had discovered was more of the Silvery-White than Gray. Sev was Silvery-Gray, only slightly darker than the Silvery-White one. Mana was well completely different in color being Purplish-Blue. However despite that difference, the Magisterium found that Silvery-white energy, which is named Ambient energy, is converted into Sev or Mana by the core. Even the energy their core generates was Ambient first before converting.

Mana also had an extra conversion factor. Mana was not only converted from the ambient energy, but also the elemental energy; which was the different color strands of energy. But Elemental Energy was essentially Ambient energy affected by the environment around them….In theory.

If that was true, then if a fire was burning, like from the bunsen burner they used to make food, the ambient energy around it would gradually turn into fire energy. This meant that if there wasn’t a natural source for an element somewhere, it would be nigh impossible to get it. Such as if someone was in the ocean there would be an astounding amount of water energy and energy-related to it, but an abysmal amount of fire energy.

This was a depressing find, since without a naturally occurring substance something else could not be created.

This would later be proven wrong since many people used a lot of mana, to the point that passed out, to will ice into existence. Interested in this development, Mr.Valko with a bit of imagination, and a big enough knowledge in the subject, decided to try something.

“Are you sure this would even work?” Asked Lin as she watched Mr.Valko with a ball of water floating above his hands.

“Yeah sir, this seems a little dangerous, I mean messing with molecules does not sound that great.” Said Josiah.

“I know, but mana seems to have a funny way of correcting itself. So if anything happens, stop the flow of my magic.” Said Mr.Valko as he shifted nervously in place for a second.

“Ok” replied both Lin and Josiah as they placed a hand on his shoulder.

Mr.Valko had an idea. He knew that there were 3 states of matter - Liquid, solid, and gas - all of which were basically defined by how fast the molecules were moving. Thus concentrating on the ball of water in his hands, he willed for the molecules in the water to slow down. Within seconds, he could feel his mana being drained, but also see that the ball of water in his hands was cooling rapidly.

Soon, a ball of ice floated above Mr.Valko’s hands to the shock of both Josiah and Lin.

“Huh…” Said Mr.Valko,” It didn’t take that much mana...maybe a 3rd or so of it? I don’t think I have that significant of a difference between me and Harry who passed out forming ice.”

“That is weird.” Said Lin, not really paying attention,” Hey guys come see what Mr.Valko did!” She shouted, gathering attention from the various people in the room.

The creation of ice resulted in a brief rise in Ice Energy for a moment before it dissipated. It was a light blue strand of energy with a cold feel to it.

The Magisterium's first day had proven to be fairly productive, showcasing the promising future ahead of them.

~~~~~
“So Riken, how's magic going?” Asked Mr.Val as another meeting began.
“We're doing fine.” Said Mr.Valko with a sigh,” We found out how to make ice even without that energy in the surroundings.”
“Seriously?” Asked Mr.Val in mild shock,” how?”
“I made some water, then used my magic to slow down the molecule in it and it became Ice.” Replied Mr.Valko with a bit of pride.
“Hold on, Ambient Energy is changed by the environment right?” Asked Mr.Stillwater. To which Mr.Valko nodded,” then why not just use the Ice in the fridge? That should change some Ambient energy to the Ice one right?”
“Yeah it would. But I was trying to see if it was possible without the energy in the first place. Right now I think Malcolm is working with them on converting water from ice to water to gas and back.” Replied Mr.Valko
“This is nice and all. But can we get to the issue at hand? Like our water situation?” Asked the principal. When all the adults were silent she began to go over the problem that had arisen recently that she had noted down. The most pressing being the muddy water and the failing electricity.
[Day 52 {week 6}] - Voltday - February 11, 0000 A.A
It hadn’t rained since Armageddon began. Which had never been a problem since the survivor got all the water they needed from the water fountains and the taps. However recently the water had begun getting browner and browner as the day passed. This was bad since they need water to cook, drink, and clean. So far they’ve been managing thanks to a filter, built by Mr.Val and Mrs.Stillwater, which was basically a large pot, taken from the culinary classroom, with a tube in its cover attached to a 5 gallon water cooler bottle. This filter takes the steam from the bot to the bottle from which it returns to water.
It was a good process but it took a lot of time. And with the recently failing electricity and the fact they were running out of fuel to feed the bunsen burners.
Thus the Magisterium had taken their first task in helping increase their survivability while in the school.
“The water Isn’t sticking!!” came cries from 3 wizards who had already created a lot of water through magic, but none of them stuck, dissipating away once the wizards let go.
“Hold on,” Said Mr.Valko as he infused his eyes with mana, allowing him to see the flow of energy, a discovery that had been made this morning.
Seeing Mr.Valko’s eyes gain a Purplish-blue hue to them all the wizards around him did the same,” Try it again.” Said Mr.Valko, focusing only on what the people in front of him were doing.
The 2 students and the Janitor K, began forming water again as a blob of it coalesced into existence. Mr.Valko looked at it and then the clear plastic cup of water in Coach McConnel’s hands, who was watching the experiment stoically, before coming to a conclusion.
Mr.Valko signaled for them to release their hold on the water again and everyone watched as the water plummeted onto the floor, dissipating quickly, leaving the floor completely dry.
“I don’t think that was actually water.” Said Josiah rubbing his eyes as he stopped infusing mana in them.
“No, it has all the properties.” Said Harry,” but it's still just a clump of energy.”
“What does that mean?” asked Neo who had been watching the ordeal with a bunch of people who were on break.
Mr.Valko that pointed at Coach McConnel’s cup of water and Said,” That cup of water isn’t glowing with water energy, but changing the ambient energy around into water energy, however the water were creating is already water energy and those the same thing as water, but at the end of the day, it’s still just energy.”
“So when they let go of it, that energy dissipates back into ambient energy,” explained Harry.
“Wait, so it's water? But not real?” asked Von in confusion.
Mr.Valko Shook his head,” no, it's real it still affects its surroundings, it's just made of energy.” he said with a pause before continuing,” Give me a paper right quick.”
The principal ripped a piece of paper from her pad and handed it to Mr.Valko, who formed water around it causing the paper to soften like it would. Once he let the water dissipate, the paper was dry, however it was wavy and no longer as straight as it used to be. He let the pass about.
“As you can see, the water still did its thing, but since the magic dissipated, the water didn’t stay.” Said Mr.Valko.
“Wouldn’t that make Magic like a particle or an atom that we can control to mold the world around us?” Theorized Niko, turning the attention to him.
After a bit of perplexed silence Neo finally spoke up,” I see what you mean, we can’t just be making water from nothing, magic must still be following that law, Converting energy into temporary matter?”
“I can see that.” Said Mr.Val,” but whether it's a particle or an atom is up for debate. It could even be a molecule. “
“The hell is the difference again?” Asked Leo in confusion.
“Will tell you later…..wait, aren't you in chemistry?” Said Neo
“But how does that help with the water situation?” began the Principal, waiting to steer the back to the initial problem.
“Right!” Said Harry getting back on topic,” well, abstract theories aside, If what Niko said is true, then we might be able to take the water from the air to get the water we need”
“That would take too long.” Said Mr.Val,” not to mention make the air too dry. I think the best option to try would be to take sediment out of the water.”
“Way to ruin my dream,” mumbled Harry.
“That could work. Let's try that.” Side Mr.Valko
Separating the sediments from the water didn't prove too difficult and it was done in about 5 minutes, However they weren’t done as they would still need to take care of the bacteria floating about in the water. The solution to this was easy. Now everyday, a few Wizards were tasked to act as glorified stoves conjuring fire to heat up water and help cook the food. This would let them conserve gas for a while more.
[Day 53 {week 6}] - Saturday - February 12, 0000 A.A
The findings of the day before gave the Magisterium more things to mess around with.
Conjuring was causing a lot of confusion, but so far, The magisterium had deemed that the more complex something is the harder and the more mana it would take to form. This was shown when even with 4 people forming the same piece of iron, all 4 were knocked out from a lack of mana with not even 5 seconds passing by.
Since magic goes hand in hand with not only imagination but knowledge, they concluded that they lacked the knowledge to create iron more efficiently.
Thus to further their studies in magic it is decided that they would go to the library and get as many informational books as they can.
Now they had to bring it up to Coach McConnel and the principal.
“Absolutely not!” Said the Principal slamming her hands on the table,” Are you insane?! We get almost bi-weekly swarms of beetles at our location and you want to go to the library! No! We have no idea when the next raid is coming, what happens when one happens when you leave?! You’ll be stuck in it!”
“We get that, but if we want to use that to our advantage, we would need some books from the library.” Argued Mr.Valko.
“Why not use the textbooks in the classroom? That would give a lot of information?” Countered the principal.
“Yes, but they don’t have everything, we can find more subjects we might not have thought about in the library, plus we may find something useful out there.” Continued Mr.Valko.
“I’m with Salinas on this one.” Said Mrs.Gibson,” Too dangerous.”
“Yeah, Riken, that has a lot of potential to go wrong very fast if a raid happens.” agreed Mr.Glenn.
“I can see the angle you are all coming from.” Said Coach McConnel,” But I think going to the Library is a good idea.”
“But that’s---”
“Let me finish.” he said Calmly to the Principal,” we need to know what is happening in the school. We can use this opportunity to scout out the area to see what the beetles have been up to for a while now.”
“ My decision is still no.” She said, crossing her arms with a sigh,” Let's put this on a vote, Call everyone.” She was not about to send children out to their death without their consent.
The result of the vote did not go in favor of what the principal wanted. It seemed that most people wanted to go see what was happening outside of the school.
Coach McConnel was put in charge of preparations, He was only going to pick the ones he knew weren’t going to screw around and actually focus on what they were doing. This somewhat excluded Leo.
Trivia ------
The Magic eye was an interesting discovery for the Magisterium. Allowing them to see what their eyes couldn’t see: The flow of the energy that allowed them to bend the rules of reality. After first being used by Harry he discovered that everyone was covered in a very pronounced layer of Ambient Energy. No one was completely sure what it did, but it made people look shiny!
