《Trek Into The Woods》Chapter 11

I faintly hear rustling from somewhere inside the main room. I hear footsteps slowly coming towards me, who could be here? I haven’t seen anyone for a month. The footsteps stop about a foot from me (stay still and pretend to still be asleep, then jump them). A hand touches my left shoulder, which is on the outside edge of the couch. I whip my right hand over my body and grab their wrist, I twirl them around while grabbing their other wrist with my left hand. I then pull them into my chest and place them on my lap while tightening my grip, making them immobile in my arms. “What do you want from me?” I whisper a hot breathe into their ear, they start to tremble. “U-um, I-I w-was just w-wondering where t-the restroom was” she spoke soft and timidly. (Wait I know that voice) The memory of yesterday’s events came flooding into my mind. I lay my forehead on Alexia’s shoulder, “Don’t scare me like that” I speak up. Just because the creatures couldn’t get in here, doesn’t mean other humans couldn’t find this place. I’ve had my fair share of whacked up things that have happened to me. I release my hold on her and grab her waist. I push her up and off of me, placing her next to me on the couch. I hold my face with my hands and then wipe the sleep out of my eyes. “This place is pretty dark at night, huh. The computer keeps the lights off at night and only lights a few when it notices someone moving, to save power and not to disturb the other people.” I tell her some a the technical know how. I stand up and reach my hand out to her, you can barely see it. She just stares at it unsure, I scratch the back of my head “look I don’t plan to hurt you, that’s the last thing anyone should do at these times. Early was just a surprised reaction to keep someone from hurting me, the only thing I could do with that position was keep you from moving.” I notion my hand again. This time she grabs it, I rub my thumb on the back of her hand gently “Alright, let’s go get this situation under hand”. I begin to walk to the restroom and she follows hand in hand.

I’m swiveling around on a stool in the kitchen when Alexia comes into view. “Um, I just want to say sorry again for everything that has happened so far.” She anxiously says. “No need, Frankly I’m sorry for forgetting that you guys came. It’s just this last month has been… very unusual.” I reply. (She’s extremely weary of people, especially men it looks like. I guess something probably happened when everything happened, I really wouldn’t be surprised though. This type of thing brings out the crazy in everyone, and it doesn’t help that she’s really pretty.) I check the tablet that’s on top of it’s holder, 4:38am “well looks like it’s a good time to make something extravagant for breakfast. I’m sure everyone will appreciate it, choose what you think might be best” I slide her a cook book and beckon her into the light. She takes a moment to scan through the book, then points at one of the pictures. “A keesh?” I say with a laugh, she nods “or is this too much” she says soft with a sad look. “No no no, not at all, I was just thinking how great that choice was” I give a big smile “the rest of our actual egg supply is about to expire, this is a great way to use them. Then we’ll have to go to powered eggs” I give a disgusted look with a bluh, she laughs (oh no, there it is again. She’s just to good to be true). “Well then, I’ll go grab the ingredients from the room and you can get some bowls, cutting board, and knifes. Well, I guess that’s if you want to.” I say looking away. She speaks up quickly “No. Yes yes I’ll do that. It’s the least I can do”. I smile and walk to the room “Okay then, I’ll leave it to you. FYI it’s pretty organized so it shouldn’t be to hard to find everything”. I go in to get the rest of the eggs and some vegetables (If I don’t use all the eggs for the keesh, then I guess I’ll just make some omelets too).
I come back with a tub of ingredients, Alexia’s at the sink washing her hands while humming. I walk up behind her, “would you like me to put on some music?” she flinches. I place me hands on her shoulders “ooo, relax, it’s just me. Guess I’m not the only one to be startled” I give her a lopsided grin, she glares at me. “So, music?” “sure” she shrugs. “Alrighty then, well I would give you a choice but I don’t have anything past the ‘80s. Seems they didn’t expect things to happen so soon, either that or the person loading this thing just really liked older music” I put on the animals, I hate these one’s the least. I wash my hands, “Can you cut up the vegetables? I’ll start making the egg mixture and crust ready.” She nods to me. She washes the vegetables while I start preparing the dough for the crust so that it can rise a bit. I hear the knife chopping down on the board as I need the dough. I set the dough aside to rise, “Ouch!” I here behind me, I turn around to Alexia holding here finger. “Did you cut yourself?” I ask, “Yeah, but it’s not to bad” she replies. I walk over to her “let me see it” “it’s fine” she says calmly. “The last thing we need is a cut getting infected. We also don’t need a open wound to make it easier for the bigger infection to get in. So, let me see it. Please” I hold my hand out, she gives me a sigh. She hands me the injured hand and I raise it close to my face. (Blood get out of the way, I need to see how deep it is) without thinking I press the finger to my lips and lick the blood away. (Good, it’s not very deep. Best clean it and bandage it up) I look at her face, she’s blushing and has a ‘what just happened’ look. “Oh, I’m sorry. I did that out of reflex of my own injuries in the past” she looks down at the floor “anyway, I want to sterilize it and bandage it up, so come with me a moment.” I pull her to another door on the same side as the bedroom is. I grab some rubbing alcohol and dip it into a gauze pad. I grab her hand again, “This will most likely sting a bit” I grip her hand tighter and begin to dab the cut, she flinches each time I touch the surface. When it’s starts to clot I spread some antibiotic cream on a bandage and wrap it around her finger. I squeeze her hand “Okay finished. Now I won’t forbid you to finish the vegetables but try not to cut yourself again” giving have a grin. She blushes and pulls her hand away quickly and leaves the room.

I pour the batter into the crust bowl and slip it into the electric oven. It’s about this time Doug and Helen come out of the bedroom. “What’s up, you two get into a fight?” Doug asks us, noticing the silent and kind of awkward atmosphere in the kitchen. Helen sees the band-aid on her finger “What did you do?” she rushes to Alexia with a worried look on her face. “Calm down, it’s nothing serious. Just a slip from cutting up the veges. It’ll heal fully in a few days.” Seems like she’s a little protective over Alexia. “Enough of that. Breakfast will be ready in about half an hour, so go freshen up. I’d prefer if you didn’t have a shower, but if you absolutely feel the need to then make it a fast one. But I’m going to have one first.” I stroll over to the supply room and grab myself a long-sleeved shirt and some jeans, also some boxers if you really wanted to know that info.
“I’ll be done soon. In the mean time, relax. Also if you haven’t found it yet, the actual restroom is the room next to the shower room. I know it’s dark in here, but don’t turn on the lights. The computer will switch to day mode at 6am, which is in about 30 minutes. Ha, right in time for breakfast too. If you would, keep an eye on the food please.” And with that, I head to take a shower of my own.
