《Mother's Basement Studios》Gamer's Guide to: Raid & Conquer

What’s up, gamers? It’s Karl, here to tell you the latest news about the newest MMO Raid & Conquer!
Raid & Conquer was developed and produced by an up-and-coming company called Olympian Entertainment. They’ve already produced a few mobile games that had hit varying levels of success. The company is best known for creating Smash a Castle, a game revolving around, well, smashing a castle as fast as possible. They took that concept and ran with it in Raid & Conquer.
‘But Karl,’ you say. ‘The only reason why Smash a Castle got so popular is that mobile gamers have no soul! That doesn't mean the company is any good!’
Well, you’d be right about the first part. Mobile gamers are perhaps the most demented kind out there, even worse than PC gamers willing to sell their souls for better parts. The types of games they play just for entertainment...shudder.
I had those same expectations when I first saw the trailer for Raid & Conquer. I thought it was just another crappy MMO made by a company desperate to get into the big leagues after tasting a bit of success on mobile. My expectations were low, to say the least. But when I loaded up the game for the first time I was blown. Away.
The first amazing thing I have to tell you about Raid & Conquer is its character creation. It seems a little daunting at first because of so many options but the hints of the lore behind each and every race and faction are fascinating. I’ll go over the character creation in-depth in another guide but I’ll give you the basic rundown here: there are unlocked and locked races and factions you can choose from. The unlocked options are based in the ‘Overworld’ while the locked features are in the ‘Underworld’ and ‘Highworld’. While you can pay money to unlock the secret races early, it’s been made clear that figuring out how to unlock them the long way is worth the time invested.

Then there’s the getting started phase. The game gives your character two options: become a Raider or a Settler. Raiders invade both Player- and NPC-owned lands while Settlers, obviously, settle the land. Again, this is just the basics; check out the fully explained guide for further information. Personally, I prefer playing as a Raider. Pillaging other people’s castles is never going to get old for me.
But let’s be honest, there’s got to be more than one feature of a game to keep it interesting. To keep R&C from growing stale, the developers have introduced different playstyles, events, and minigames to keep players intrigued. Private campaign servers where you and your friends can beat 100+ levels of scaling difficulty, monthly public raids against an NPC powerhouse that any player from any faction can join in, and more.
Of course, no game is perfect and there are some less-than-stellar parts of R&C. Multi-classing is incredibly difficult; you don’t get EXP if you don’t have the right class equipped at the right time. If you’re playing as a [Bowman] but you have a side-gig as a [Potter], you can’t equip both classes at the same time. If you make the mistake of going out into the wild as a [Potter] and a goblin sneaks up on you, you can’t change classes mid-battle.
You could make multiple characters on one server to share money (we’ll talk more about the currency in another guide!) and other resources but the devs have been cracking down on to prevent any ‘unintended consequences’. In my opinion, that’s pretty bull, especially if they’re going to make multi-classing so difficult.
Coincidentally, gaining EXP as a Raider is quite difficult if you don’t want to spend hours grinding. You have to take on quests to gain a reputation with NPCs you need to progress. Many of those quests are long with little reward and the ever terrible escort quests.

However, these annoying features don’t detract from the beauty of the game. The amazing and life-like graphics, the witty NPC dialogue, and the immersive open-worlds the team behind R&C have created are masterpieces in their own right. I totally recommend this game for anyone interested in the concepts. You can find it on Vapor for just $24.99!

I am merely a reviewer, albeit the products I review are slightly different. For example, I review quantum computers, artificial intelligence, anti-gravity mech armor, planetary engines, sublight colonial ships, stellar detonators, etc… Chen Yu: “The technological product I bring to everyone for today’s episode is—a dual-vector foil!
