《Hidden calamity》Ch6

Zero had managed to take the thugs down and now was one on one with Shift only his pistol left. Both were showing fatigue. Zero focused completely, this was a bad matchup for him. Shift could hide behind a barrier and use area denial to limit and slow him whilst hiding behind shields. This operation had been planned well, if The Soldier had still been alive the pair would have easily killed Zero.
Suddenly a sharp crack echoed in the room, Shift's left knee exploding in a flower of red, not wasting the opportunity Zero dashed up close and shot a burst of fire into Shift's face. Exhausted and soaked in sweat he looked around in time to see a battered looking Ryan execute a running knee to A Crawling Caesar driving the Brawler's head into a wall knocking him unconscious. Then spun the other way to see his saviour Kate clothing slightly singed stood in the back doorway cradling a rail gun.
This was all insane how the fuck had they won, these kids were insane Kate had been perfect cover as far as zero could tell shooting with incredible accuracy, managing to dodge a heavy plasma cannon then coming back with the shot that broke Shifts shield and decimated his leg. A rail gun, one of the most dangerous types of long arm strictly regulated to military use because of their complete disregard for armour, walls or apparently energy shields.
Then Ryan, there were few normals who could take on even a low level Super, up close.
Whilst gene therapy, surgical grafts and biotech could improve a human physically they could barely match even a low levelled super. The most common way militaries fought Supers was from range with power armour, mechs and drones acting in support of friendly Supers.

Here Ryan was, bruised and bleeding but having taken out six category 1-3 then beaten a category 5 unconscious
A fire suppression system went off making Zero jump foam quickly putting out the fire up above. Kate and Ryan looked at each other for a moment, then both started moving Kate back up stairs and Ryan headed outside.
“Wait, what are you doing? There aren’t any more of them right?” Zero trailed after Ryan who was now looking at the bodies outside.
“We are going to set these bodies up to make it look like a proper gang battle, mad dogs attacking your guys, you using the workshop for defence. Once we are done staging you leave with Caesar while me and Kate meet the authorities, our security system having notified the authorities.”
“I set off the full fire suppression system to make a mess of the scene.”
Zero thought it through hearing shots and screams until the distance. With the amount of violence going on in the area the authorities would have to show up in force probably with a Hero or two. They would shut down any ongoing battles then after a quick investigation clean up.
If Ryan’s plan worked out they would find the scene of a violent gang battle, the victors long gone and two scared youngsters waiting for rescue. The only thing that may be suspicious was the security system, but paranoia could be blamed especially since they were young and as far as Zero knew orphaned.
“Right, let's get this done.”
Minutes later the bodies and weapons were arranged Kate came back down carrying a heavy looking duffel and packing up the unfired weapons from the hidden panel before covering it back up. Zero desperately wanted to question the two but realised now wasn’t the time.
In no time at all Zero was watching them disappear back into the yard whilst the workshop filled with fire retardant foam and he pulled away in his car preparing to check in with his people and deal with the fallout.
