《Forged From Flesh》Chapter 18: Slave Traders

How can you tell if a dragon is male or female?
If the dragon was an adult, he knew he could tell the gender by looking at it.
Male dragons have a broad chest and are rather massive when compared to female dragons, even their skull size would be large. Female dragons have a more graceful physical shape.
The lack of information on how to determine a juvenile's gender is owing to the fact that juveniles cannot be located in the wild because they are always safeguarded by an adult dragon.
And because there aren't many dragons in the wild to begin with, if one needs to tame one, they should look for one in the mystic realm, where dragons are usually not in the juvenile stage but rather in the adolescent stage, where their bodies have already begun to change, making it easy to identify.
When beast tamers obtain their dragons from the mystic realm, they are all aware of the dragon's gender and abilities when they first summon it.
It's as though the memory of their first summon is imprinted on their souls.
However, Arthur did not share this perspective; Arthur believed that two-headed dragons should be distinguished from single-headed dragons, and that this should be the cause for his inability to discover them, as well as the same for the system.
The system was also unable to determine the dragon's gender, but it was aware of the cause for this.
Because two souls were united after their birth, their bodies were transformed to fit two different souls.
Because dragons, unlike humans, do not have distinguishable body parts that can be seen with the naked eye, they are usually identified by their structure, and they could only wait for the dragon to grow.
So Arthur decided to name it when it had grown a little bit, or else he should find a gender-neutral name if he decided to name it now.
Light and dark particles continued to accumulate at a rapid rate beneath the soul tree, and a suitable habitat was swiftly being built.
It should be finished by the time he gets up tomorrow morning.
—————-
Around the same time.
when the people were transferred to the Colosseum
Outside the city's perimeter:
Two men were pacing back and forth in an inconspicuous location, somewhere deep beneath.
"Shouldn't they have gotten there by now?"
"Most likely, we'll hear good news shortly."
"How will we decide who gets the five-star beast tamer after that?" Ren wondered.
Ren had the feeling that this wasn't going to go well, because all of these individuals have a long history, and they can't employ any underhanded tactics because their clan didn't even have a master-level beast tamer to help them.
"The family leader said they all decided to do an internal auction among the folks who went to 'Pick up the five-star beast tamer,'" Ben explained.
They don't have much of a choice, even if the price isn't something they can readily afford.
... the money will be split evenly among the others based on the number of persons that participated in the operation, so even if they lose, it won't be too horrible.
Furthermore, they should be able to capture a large number of four-star beast tamers.
These individuals went so far as to capture every four-star beast tamers they could find, including students who had awakened in the preceding year.
It wouldn't be difficult because they could catch a random passerby and conduct a soul search, thus obtaining the information they needed in this manner.

It would be a tiresome task, but they were prepared to do it in order to boost profits.
The minutes ticked by slowly.
They had not received any news after more than two hours, and it was too tranquil; even though they were far from the capital, such a large number of powerful individuals couldn't finish the task without raising any commotion.
"It's strange that we haven't heard any commotion yet; there should be at least some commotion."
Ren remarked.
"Perhaps they're being careful," Ben speculated.
Ren could only nod, as he was still pondering the situation in his mind.
The capital, which was cloaked in darkness, seemed strangely silent.
After 2 more hours,
"No, I think something went wrong," Ren remarked once more, sensing that things were not as they had anticipated.
When the two brothers realised that something had gone wrong and that things were not going as planned, they made the decision to flee as soon as possible.
They sensed that the atmosphere grew heavier the longer they stayed here, and that an invisible hand hanging over their heads began to tighten its grip slowly.
These two brothers did not participate; in fact, they were unable to do so because they are still in platinum rank.
They finally decided to flee this location, and that once they were out of there, they should quickly meet with their clan leader to find out what had happened; their hearts were beginning to be enveloped by an ominous aura.
He requested his beast, the giant sand scorpion, to dig a pathway in the sand for them to escape through, and his beast quickly did so, and they began running through the darkness towards their clan's base.
Both of them were fortunate; if they had chosen to conceal a little closer to the city wall, they would have been in grave danger, as they were just outside the massive array formation.
After another three hours.
They had finally crossed the kingdom's border, yet neither of them felt completely at ease.
They were certain that something dreadful had happened because these people had brought their communication gadgets with them.
Ren, as a platinum-rank beast tamer, had to be careful not to reveal his true identity even if he was apprehended.
The reason for this was because each kingdom has hundreds of platinum rank, and it would be tough for them to find out about his specifics if he did not provide any. It would be difficult for them to find out about him, and it could even be said that finding his background based on his appearance would be impossible.
In the case of diamond-ranked beast tamers, though, it's a completely different matter.
Because there are only a handful of them and every kingdom has access to their information, it will be simple for them to determine their personal background once they see their true appearance.
When Ben and Ren arrived at their clan headquarters, they discovered that their worst fears had come true: their clan chief was unable to get any information from the diamond-ranked beast tamers he had dispatched to participate.
They were most likely apprehended or killed.
The enticement of a five-star beast tamer suddenly seemed more like a trap than a chance.
Their clan's power would be substantially reduced if the diamond-ranked beast tamers were slain. Their clan had sent three diamond-ranked beast tamers out of a total of five.
The clan chief was frantically walking back and forth. I'm waiting for news concerning his family.

"Have you not even gotten any minor information, Chief?"
Ben inquired of the clan chief.
"No,"
"Most likely they are dead, and the thing that we most would most likely happen," the clan leader stated after a few seconds, shaking his head.
"I'll talk to the clan elders and try to reach out to others to see what we can do to save them if they're still alive."
"I'll talk to the clan elders and try to reach out to others to see what we can do to save them if they're still alive."
Ben nodded, certain that none of them was still alive.
They all had an inkling as to who would be the cause of this disaster; the king was not present, and there was only one person who could do it without causing a ruckus.
That man had not been seen in the outer world in over two centuries, and no one knew where he had gone.
They reasoned that he was unlikely to be in the city, and that even if he was, the diamond-ranked beast tamers might quickly flee and return. However, it appears that they underestimated the kingdom's ability to gather intelligence.
They should have known when they entered the kingdom through its border and should have intervened and dealt with them outside the city wall, otherwise the current situation would not have occurred.
Similar events were occurring across many countries, with the people who sent the master ranked beast tamer being the most stunned.
If everything went according to plan, the situation would appear to be the same from the outside, with the master ranked beast tamer from their kingdom grabbing the five-star beast tamer and killing the rest before disappearing without a trace, making it appear as if the kingdom had wiped them all out.
Although the outcome seemed to be comparable to what they predicted, final results just weren't. They were the ones who had incurred so much loss now.
Both of these nations only possessed two master-ranked beast tamers, and it was as if half of their force had vanished overnight.
Their master-ranked beast tamer, it appears, killed before he could even put up a fight.
These people have stationed several lower-ranking spies in the capital, who have reported that they have not heard or felt any commotion.
The other side should be tremendously powerful, and they should have wiped them out without even giving them a chance.
All of these people were unaware of the massive formation's existence; had they known, they would have hesitated before taking any action; a formation of such magnitude that even a master ranking beast tamer could not escape is a frightening thing to contemplate.

On the next day,
Approximately 5 a.m.
As the guard commander had commanded, Arthur and Mike were already preparing to leave.
5.30 a.m.,
Someone came to the door and knocked. Mike proceeded to open the door after seeing who it was.
"Coming.."
"It appears that you are ready, then we will begin moving."
The one who arrived to take them up was Lucas.
They were staying in the same building as the magical realm during this time.
They quickly departed the building and followed closely behind Lucas, arriving in an area devoid of people after a few minutes.
At that point, they heard footsteps approaching them, and all three turned around to see who it was.
It was the guard captain.
They all greeted him.
"Good morning, captain,"
With a smile on his face, the guard captain nodded.
"It appears that instead of reading that book, you guys went to bed early."
Arthur and Mike exchanged nods.
The guard captain, on the other hand, was not gazing at them right now; his eyes was fixated on Lucas, who was looking sideways, as if he hadn't heard anything.
The guard captain discreetly shook his head, thinking to himself, 'What could I do about this guy?'
Because he had a soft spot for Lucas, the Guard captain did not behave harshly with him.
Lucas is a beast tamer with a platinum rank.
Lucas' history was tragic; he is not a native of this kingdom and was saved by the guard captain himself while on the lookout for a particular resource to aid his beast's breakthrough.
A bunch of bandits, or more precisely slave traders, were discovered by the guard captain.
He decided to save all the people who had been kidnapped by them because he was an exceedingly virtuous person.
The bandit commander was a platinum-level beast tamer, but he couldn't even hold his own against the guard captain, and he died soon after.
Following the rescue of the dozen youngsters, the guard captain promptly transported them to the capital; all of the children were between the ages of 12 and 16.
The kingdom has something akin to a rehabilitation facility where those who have been rescued from the outside will be evaluated and all of the information that brought them to their current predicament will be recorded.
The testing here refers to checking the soul to see if someone has signed a slave contract with these individuals; if a soul contract is discovered, they will be taken to a separate building and locked up there right away.
This building was made of a special material that can block all types of control from the outside world; even though they were not treated as prisoners, they were unable to roam freely in the outside world; this would be dangerous for the people around them, as well as for them; in this building, all soul perception will be blocked, and if the person in charge decides to destroy their soul, they will be unable to do so.
The majority of the time, the slave contract will expire once a certain amount of time has passed.
A slave contract can be signed by a beast tamer below master rank with a maximum of 5 people, and a master ranked beast tamer with a maximum of 20 people.
As a consequence, the persons who established the contract can break it, and the influence he held over the beast tamer will be lost.
So the only thing they can do is wait for the slave mark to erase on its own. Fortunately, until now, the people who the kingdom kept in this building had their contracts terminated in a matter of months, with the exception of one stubborn case that took nearly two years to terminate. He, too, eventually gave up.
The kingdom had no other option except to wait patiently until the soul contract was broken.

Outer Sect Disciple
Gongsun Xianyuan, eleven years old, was a genius... or he should have been. Unfortunately when the Cultivator of the Wudang sect came to the village he found out that he had a rare condition that prevented him to cultivate in the arts of the sect. He didn't give up right away but in the end he had to resign himself to the truth. At first he despaired but he soon choose to let his dreams go and begin a new life. This is the tale of an untalented cultivator who had given up in his dreams of glory to live a normal life. How will his future unfold? ------------------------- My native language is neither English nor Chinese, I am writing a Xianxia novel because I like the genre. I have tried to maintain the chinese names and the form of address but I used the measurements of the international system(meters, grams, etc..) and the hour time(no incense stick, or others). It may spoil it for some but I think it would be easier both for me and the readers. Before you read keep in mind that this is a novel with a slow progress. I don't want to give any spoiler but at least a few chapters will be dedicated to his life in the village.

8 283New Paris [a Modern-day LitRPG]
New Paris [OR] I reincarnated into the world of my favorite wuxia novel as an S ranker with unbalanced skills. [Volume 1] - Completed I was one of those people who only stood out in a crowd when their name was called. Then, I died. But instead of heaven, hell, or anything else, I found myself in the body of a young woman whom I did not recognise at first. You see, I had this novel I was obsessed with. The novel was a fairly popular wuxia that got a few sequels, and a handful of spinoffs. One of these spinoffs took place in Paris, where the main cast fought against a multi-millionaire villain. When I woke up after dying, I eventually realised that I was now the third daughter of this multi-millionaire end-game boss in a spin-off of a sequel of my favourite novel. Does this make any sense to you? Because it doesn't to me. But I guess I might as well make the most of it now. Just gotta stay away from some of the more unstable main characters and cut all ties with my 'family' to avoid certain death. [Volume 2] - Currently Airing It had not been a good idea to interfere with the characters of the original novel. Had I known it was going to cause a butterfly effect, I would have stayed in my lane and minded my business. Although, between the suspicious attacks I seem to constantly find myself in the center of, and my 'family' who is the living definition of the expression 'rich pricks', I’m not entirely sure my current predicament would have been avoidable. But maybe it isn't to be avoided; maybe I should embrace this opportunity that has been given to me and become the hero of this story? At least it's certain that I can't do worse than the original protagonist in terms of moral ambiguity; with immortality already in my pocket, and no other useful skills to account for. However, if I were to follow this path, I would have a lot to lose, including an upcoming promotion and my growing relationship with my crush. With power, glory and whatever else on one side, and my wellbeing and happiness on the other, even in this magical wuxia world, the choice is easy to make.
