Chapter - Legendary Draconate

The note didn’t tell me anything about the location of this “Elis”, but it did give me a warning about heavens chasing me down. Heavens chasing me down...that sounds extremely stupid and fictional, but the note materialized right in front of so I guess it doesn’t sound that ridiculous anymore. Violated Goddess...oh, the beautiful woman in the insane asylum. So now, I need to live a life of running away from something fictional, but made real by that Goddess. However, I don’t know anything about the Goddess’s personality, so she might be doing this to get back at me. Hmm, if I can just use around 10% of my psychic power then I might be able to do something, but right now there is like a massive lock on my powers, whatever it is, it’s locking me out from using my powers. Currently, when I check my inner core realm, it looks like a massive tower full of pure power that is inaccessible to me, and I’m just sitting outside on the doorstep. AHH, that is my power and no one has the right to do that.

I left the black note on the floor after reading it, and what do you know. It disappeared into the ground, just as fast it appeared.

“Celestial tresta! You got fifty points for that one!” A kids exclaimed in excitement.

What?

I guess being a small chicken gives at least some benefits, since these kids are really far away, my hearing must be enhanced or better than when I was human. However, that “human” stage was only for a small while, like around the time I was still inexperienced to psychic powers. Then after my first couple of knowledge breakthroughs, all my natural senses skyrocketed to alien stages, so this “chicken hearing” isn’t all that great when you compare a thirteen year old human me.

“Haha, his head went blahhh. You totally rekt him!” Another similarly voiced kid exclaimed, their voices were squeaky, arrogant and snotty.

There shouldn’t be any harm in approaching these kids, since the village seems really elegant and...blonde-girl and her kidnappings. Nope, I’m not going to check these kids out, especially not after seeing how blonde-girl acts.

“Tresta venva! there is an even bigger one here.” A kid shouted, using their unfamiliar dialect.

I guess that’s a given, a different world, different culture and language.

I was walking away from where I was hearing those kids, and then...suddenly something flies past my ear in extreme speed. The air even managed to fan out all the fur on my head, due to the speed of the projectile. I look at the projectile that came into impact with the tree in front of me, and...it was stuck inside the wood, a stone as small as a eyeball. Is someone trying to murder me, since if this hits me then I’ll have a hole in my head, and it won’t be a nice sight to see.

“Tch..forsaken undead! It missed him”

Turning around, I notice four kids standing on a large boulder, condescendingly looking down at me. The way the four stood looked really cool, and if I wasn’t in this kind of predicament right now, I might have joined them. However, all four of these kids have fierce glints in their eyes, their mouths were slightly left ajar in which slight blodges of saliva came out, so it looked like they were about to feast on something, and that something is me. There was a redheaded girl fixing her weapon and loading in another stone, so it’s a slingshot then, it had the looks of one but the wood was completely black, so they must have painted them.

“It looks like a black chocobo, a rare type.” The kid who stood above everyone else, said to his gang. He licked his lips slightly, so he clearly liked what he saw, but too bad he won’t be killing or capturing me today, or any day at that.

There was no way in hell I’m just going to gawk at these kids, while the load their killing weapons. So I ran back the way I came, weaving and dodging through trees.

“Get him...” The leader-kid was probably issuing orders, but I wasn’t able to catch all of it even with my enhanced hearing, so that goes to show how fast a...chocobo?

So I’m a chocobo, weird name, but atleast I’m not officially a chicken anymore and won’t be chopped and cooked.

As a chocobo, I had improved hearing and my legs were more developed for running than humans. Especially when you compare a baby human with a baby chocobo, or am I just an exception for whatever reason, just like how I was different back on Earth and therefore an exception there too. If that is the case, then will I be able to live a normal life here, unlike my life on Earth...that is one heck of a question, coupled with the fact that I am here to find my meaning in life.

I reached the tree, that I remembered for it’s pitch black leaves, it was the first tree of the forest. It was basically the entrance to the forest, but...wha.

The scene that fell before my eyes felt as if it was from some art painting, a drawing so fine and realistic that it made you feel sorry. Sorry for the people dying and pity on the houses that burned down. That’s right, in front of my eyes the whole village is being burned down by a gigantic entity that looked fictional, but it’s as real as the ground underneath my clawed-feet.

Fiery catastrophe, women running my way with newborn babies in their arms, as if their protection would save them. Children were running after the women, their faces drenched with tears and snot, faces were dyed a deep red, it was as if something is burning their faces bit by bit. People donning armour, and weapons were running after the civilians, forsaking the fighting men to die at the hands of the abysmal dragon. All of the guards had their heads thrown down in shame, as they stared at the ground whilst running away to save their own lives.

I stood as people barged past me, shouldered me, gave a look of disbelief before continuing to run. Disbelief that I did not run with them, disbelief that a mere baby chocobo stood and watched the fate of thousands of villagers die by the scorching flames of a dragon, had I cared for my own life more than someone else’s, I might have joined them in their retreat. However I needed to find someone, the someone that had given me a life in this world. My mother, the golden chocobo.

The Goddess might have placed me in this body, and not my mother from this world, but she still laid an egg. The egg is what I was born out of, therefore I owe my mother my life.

I started walking towards the throng of people that came towards me, some shouldered each other, some outright pushed with their hands to get that extra step away from danger. Walking was too slow, and the dragon might annihilate everything by the time I get there, so there is no time to waste. This village seemed strong by the rippling muscles of the men, that I saw, but even those strong men were teary eyed and kept running without looking back.

Abandonment at it’s finest. The home that must have been inhabited for years upon years, and cultivated through starvation, bad weather...all of it is thrown away when there is a sign of danger. Ridiculus.

I started to run at full speed, and soon enough...I didn’t get tired at all, plus it looked as if I had been given a free path to go past as the people moved out my way. I do not know what is going on with the dragon, but I’ll try my hardest to fight it, if mother is fighting it too.

There...the house I was born in, debri and rubble remains of it, I am surprised I even found it. There is nothing here, but there is, I feel the blonde girl’s presence.

I slowly circled the remains of our house, eyeing everything, but making my pace quick since there was still a dragon on the loose.

Then it was there that I saw her, the small body that sat on the floor in depression. Her shrinking back rose and fell in time with her sobbing inhalations.

She turned to look at me, her eyes a bloodshot crimson. Tears pooled up at the corners of her eyes, but she didn’t let them fall, her sorrow and pain shook my inner self, and when she looked at me, It felt as if I was looking at a manifestation of the world’s accumulated sadness.

“Please, you are a legendary creature, so...can you do anything?” She asked me quietly, and the world quieted around me, only she was filled with colour.

I was frozen to the spot, at her question, as if the whole world suddenly gave me a decision that can cause the destruction of the world or save it.

What can I do?

I looked at her more closely, her lower body was covered in crimson. Blood. However, there was no sign of her being injured on her body, but it was evident whose blood it was. Resting on blonde girl’s lap, a charred head lay breathless, faint signs of blue hair could be seen through the deathly red colour. It was the girl’s mother…

“Will they wake up?” The girl asked, making me move my attention back to her, but not before something horrid caught my eye.

Under the massive pile of debri, there was lots of blood, but that is not what caught my attention, it was the golden feather that lay untouched on top of it all.

A golden feather that belongs to my deceased mother. I have lost another.
