Super is worse than GT

This title is not clickbait I am very serious when I mean that super is worse than GT. Ever since the ending of Z. Dragon ball fans wanted a successor to the series. I am one of those fans. I want to see what happens to the Z fighters after the Buu saga. The thing is Z wasn’t that good and other manga since Dragon Ball Z has ended up their game. Manga like one piece, naruto, my hero, etc… have shown that Shōnen can tell deeper stories. Heck bleach when it started was a way better story than Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball Z. But the problem with dragon ball it doesn’t seem to get with the times. Now, why am I talking about these other stories when the title of this video is super is worse than Gt? The reason being Gt came out way before Shōnen started to produce deeper stories. They made it around the time one piece was just getting started and Shōnen has fallen off product wise. You have Dragon Ball super that created two decades later, and I see no real difference in storytelling from GT and Super.

First of off, I will compare super to other Shōnen and make after GT. The reason being is to show how far Shōnen have come, but Dragon Ball creators refuse to make a real effort in writing a story. There are so many wonderful Shōnen stories that came out between GT and Super and in my second point I will argue that GT and Super is almost the same story with a different cover. I will make other videos talking about how Super arcs are awful and how I would fix them. Well, before all the Super bashing, I must talk about all the good that comes from Super. Super had great animation and artwork, mostly. It also had a great music track that could get a person hype. That is it. Yay, Super you are making my life so much easier right now. Let’s move on to trashing Super.

Let’s get this out of the way first. No, the fighting in Super wasn’t great. Super was just DBZ and GT. Super brought nothing new regarding fighting in DBZ. We have seen it and done it. Super had one point that I would give credit to, but it was a short moment. When goku was fighting the two sayain girls, I know no one cares about. He wasn’t a super sayian fighting two super sayians and holding them back. The reason being he knew martial arts and have been fighting for years vs two street alley girls that only have been fighting some random thugs. Yes, throw out power levels. DBZ and GT were all about power levels. Who was the strongest and fastest? Super had the chance to throw it away and use other ways for people to win but 2 mins into the fight the girls’ force goku to turn back to Super sayian to fight once again.

There are two Shōnen that Super could have learned from. They are One Piece and Hunter X Hunter. Two Shōnen that throws away power levels for other things. In One Piece DF is king, mostly. Having a good DF to counter another DF is a huge plus. Look at Enel vs. luffy. Enel had a broken ability in seeing Luffy’s next attack but it really didn’t matter because Enel couldn’t have hurt Luffy with his DF powers. Luffy’s DF force Enel to change his entire fighting style, but he couldn’t overcome Luffy’s DF advantage. We see one person lose let’s look at when someone with a weaker DF wins. Luffy vs Crocodile instead of Luffy having a DF advantage, he had a weakness. Luffy in the Crocodile fight force Luffy to change the way Luffy fought. Luffy is a long to a mid-range fighter. He uses his stretching powers to snipe people. During the last round vs. Crocodile, Luffy had to fight Crocodile close up. He changes his entire fighting style just to beat Crocodile. Can you say the same for anyone in super? Did anyone have to change their way of fighting just because their opponent was a counter to them? Nope. Now, let’s move to Hunter X hunter and see how it could have helped Super.

In hunter x hunter, they call their main combat system nen. Now what makes hunter x hunter different from super is that having more nen means nothing. Winning a fight isn’t about who have more nen it is how it applied. Now, that being said having a large amount a nen is helpful but that will not win you a fight against an expert. The main character Gon can have 100 times more nen than hisoka but will lose to Hisoka 100% of the time. Why is that? That is because Hisoka is a way better fighter and having more nen means nothing. Look at the meruem vs netero fight. The only reason meruem won that fight was because he trains his mind against komugi in the game Gungi. Netero should never even push meruem to the brink of death but he did and not only that but if meruem never met komugi. Netero could have won the fight against him. Let's talk about naruto next.

Naruto had a system that could have made Super interesting. Unlike one piece and Hunter x hunter, they have abilities they cannot really control. One piece Luffy, ate the gum gum fruit giving him the abilities of gum. He cannot turn these abilities to say ice to counter a fire user but in naruto, they can. Mostly no one locked to one ability. The ninjas in the manga where better at some elements than others. That doesn’t mean they couldn’t use other elements. Each of these elements counter each other, fire beats wind, wind beats lightening, so on and on. Super could have made the key blast into a rock, scissors, paper system. DBZ already have three different ki blasts. Let them able to cancel each other out.

Krillin’s destructo disc should be able to cut through something like goku’s kamehameha blast. Goku’s kamehameha blast could counter piccolo’s special beam cannon. Last piccolo’s special beam cannon counters Krillin’s destructo disc.

Over the years, mangas have evolved, so why didn’t DBZ evolve. I think of so many to improve super by just looking at the big three. Naruto, one piece, and bleach. Super had so much potential instead we got a better looking with better music GT. With no new ideas and more retcon. Not saying GT brought a lot to the table but super had 20 years of time to come up with something.

I have come up with more ideas in a few days than the writers of DB super have in 20 years. Super was just a cash grab. This was a lazy way to get money out of DBZ fans. The writers don’t care about the fandom. Heck, we finally get two women supersayain and most people hate them. For zero reason, they couldn’t go super sayain even though their base power level was way above Goku’s when he first turned. The tournament of power was boring. Beside the good music and good animation. No, goku’s ultra instinct didn’t phase me in the sightless. The reason being I like SSJ4 design way better than anything that super have done. I wish super have so imagination instead of a different color hair.

Let’s look at the stories. In both of their starting arcs we get a new transformation. With the other sayians power Goku’s finds a new level beyond the power of the SSJ3. The next arc an old villain appears. Frieza and android 17. Super made the worst GT arc look better. Frieza a villain who shouldn’t be able to compete with any of the current Z fights is now on the same level as goku and Vegeta. Why because he is talented and had some training. Super 17 was two androids becoming one. With the help of the creator of the last big bad. Also, let’s not discount the person who made Cell. Let's ignore future trunks arc because the next GT arc is better being compared to the universe survival arc in GT. The reason being these are the two big final arcs in the anime. With super they gave everyone some action in this big tournaments and in GT they made Vegeta relevant. Oh, I’m not forgetting both shows was heavy about goku.

Well, one had an ending, and the other left more opportunity for more money by not ending it. Once again, lets ignore all of that. The final arcs of both stories started off strong, in super case meh but the idea was interesting. In GT case, the dragon balls have taken too much negative energy because of all the wishes in a short time causing them to break. The dragon becomes evil and separates in 8 different smaller dragons that goku have to defeat or they would destroy the galaxy. On the other side, you have two bored gods wanting to get rid of half of the universes because they were below a development level or something. Goku talks to two bored gods about a huge tournament and they both agree. This creates 90 fighters form 9 different universes.

Look at all three arcs and compare them to each other. GT is even or better than Super. Oh, yes, what I am saying is blasphemy but hear me out. You listen to most of this video, wait until it is over. Both of the anime starts of retconing the series. They both give Goku a new form to work with. One creates a big bad and the other a lazy antihero. Beerus is not only a retcon but also a useless character. He is the second strongest character in the series with a job, but once he joins the Z fighters; he becomes lazy and only cares about food. He is a waste of character. I know many people hated pam, but she at least acted her age. She was a brat. It makes sense because guess what she was a brat. Beerus acted worse than pam and he is a freaking god. Man, I don’t understand why Pam got a lot of hate but Beerus who was just as bad gets a pass. In GT, we get another goku vs Vegeta Oozaru fight. Talk about nostalgia. Goku fights Beerus. Both fights introduce Goku’s new transformation. SSJ4 and SSJgod. Super is funny. Goku gets a new transformation and doesn’t keep it for long. He gets another one SSJgod blue. In which he uses way more often. His new transformation doesn’t even last to the next big villain. Vs GT in which SSJ4 is the last transformation and is use throughout the entire show. Between these two arcs I will give the win to GT.

The next battle next arcs are the bring back the old villain arcs. Both are dumb and boring. I don’t care Frieza is a fan favorite bringing him back was a bad idea. He was under power and him getting so strong was stupid. It took him 6 months of training to advance 4 levels compared to the sayians. What was he doing during the 6 months? Well, it doesn’t matter, Super can have this win. Both arcs aren’t worth talking about. Let talk about the big subject the final two arcs of the anime.

I will say this outright; the super arc makes no sense. The reason being Goku showed off his strength and yet only two universes had people that could compete at Goku’s level. Why is this? If they couldn’t find people near goku’s strength then why keep the same rules in place. They could have asked Zeno to change the rules in the favor. Zeno love transformations or other random stuff. Why not have the rules stating that a universe could live as long as their powers interest Zeno? They didn’t have any other way to compete. You know what if I keep talking about this issue it would become an hour long video. I will do a breakdown of the tournament arc later. GT wins. Yes, the evil dragon arc had a lot of potential but compared to the tournament arc. Both stories were shooting for the stars. Gt made it to the moon but super never even left the atmosphere.

I will go over each Super arc later. Time. That is my argument for why GT is better than Super. 20 years to come up with something better than GT and at best anyone can say it is a bit better than GT. That is sad. 20 years to get this right and we get super. No. I demand better. Everyone should demand better. Super is an awful cash grab and they aren’t hiding it. They refuse to evolve and give us a tired old story. 20 years. 20 years for them to come up with a good story. 20 years to come up with a better combat system beside punch hard. 20 years to come up with new character designs. 20 years of thinking. 20 remember this number when watching Super vs watching GT.
