《Aether Online》Chapter 5: Reaping the Rewards

For the next few moments, the only thing I could hear was my heart thumping away at my chest. Thump. Thump. Thump. A heavy breath escaped my lips as the violent aftermath of our battle came into my vision. My arm; the one that I thrust at the last second had ripped clean through the machine’s collar bone region and it was left hanging lifeless.

“...” I hadn't even had time to catch my breath before the game forcefully extended itself. [Silence is an agreement, What name will you register? *note: the name chosen may overpower your actual name in terms of recognisability* ] “...Uh.” [No Name Selected, a name will be randomly generated... “Pork Stew” ] “No!” [The Akashic Records have been filled with mentions of the player “Pork Stew!” ]

I opened my inventory and pulled out two small boxes, each one decorated with different shipping addresses and the like. I opened the one on the right first and pulled out the objects I found inside. From left to right was, A Mecha-Human Core to create an alternate body, Artificial Personality Injectors to allow a robot to have emotion, A Note, A Map, A Skill Book, Another Mysterious Pill, A Pair of Grieves with engines built-in, and A Technique Scroll.
I instantly grabbed the note and began reading, after a few minutes of trying to decipher the sloppy handwriting I got the gist of the note. “Dear esteemed *******, I am currently ******* and won't be able to come home for a while. Please tell **** that Ian ******** Buried beneath the shrine. If he finds it- he’ll be able to start inventing!” It seemed to be a note from father to son. The Map didn't help elaborate, as it seemed to have been soaking in water for quite a while which made it hard to decipher. “Oh well- what can ya’ do.” I turned my attention back on the other items and a mischievous smile filled my face. As I read over the details the smile only got wider.

“Ow!” an ecstatic smile filled my face as liters of blood poured from my wounds, it covered the floor and covered my enemy. The man I was fighting had a horrified look on his face as he backed into a corner. I pulled my broken body up from the ground and slunk over to the man; for some reason, he scrambled for the blinds before pulling them suddenly filling the room with sunlight. “If I'm gonna die, then I'll at least take you down with me!!” when he pulled the blinds his body evaporated into ash, I felt bad because... “That’s annoying you know.” his dying card was completely ineffective.

“Pork Stew? What a terrible name!” I began laughing hysterically just like so many others did. After I finally calmed down, I equipped my MVP reward and continued on my way towards my destination: The Nevermore Shrine.

8 120Mail Fox Tales
When trying to save an injured animal while drunk you don't really expect many consequences. If you were sober, you'd likely expect to be saddled with a few bills and some work finding the owner. In either case, being saddled with divine duties by an ancient animal spirit is probably not amongst the things you expect. Neither did Eva when she picked up an injured canine after an evening out drinking with a friend to celebrate their arrival in Tokyo. At least those duties are little more than a part time job as a delivery-fox. And they come with room and board, as well as making her life that much more interesting.
8 253Avaria: A Pay To Win Adventure
Avaria is a game like world where the wealthy are the strong. Want more strength, a specific skill or spell, well there's an item for that. If you can get it of course. These items are rare and far from plentiful, hoarded by the wealthy that can afford them. Acquired from Avaria itself, these items are dropped from strong monsters and dungeons, so if someone doesn't have the money, they must get it the hard and dangerous way. Don’t worry though, even the poor are born with at least one skill or spell that could help them in life, apart from the basic mana skills that everyone is born with. Usually these skills and spells are passed down from a parent. Of course, that doesn't mean they can use it. Any skills from birth are locked and unusable to start. Unlockable through great effort and practise, something many are unable to do without some guidance. There is another much quicker way however, through gaining experience from killing monsters and using that experience to unlock it. Adam is a human summoned to this world from earth. What effect can he have on this world when he is given a skill that he knows can be used to help many people, with the desire to do just that. Unfortunately it won't be so easy, as there are many obstacles in his way. It’s a cruel world, but he will have help and doesn’t have to do it alone as he meets new companions and makes friends along the way. Lianna is another human from earth who is summoned the same time as Adam. Though things go much differently for her as she is quickly enslaved, beaten and tortured. Unable to understand what her enslavers are telling her, she has a difficult time following through with the commands given to her. Forced to fight creatures and level up against her will. Authors Note: Aiming to post 1 chapter/week, while writing at least 1 chapter/week.
