《Twisted King》10: Frost.

I, Lord Kergulan had commanded my frozen legion to the outskirts of the pitiable human village.
As an elite soldier and tactician, I had carefully prepared the location of my first human battle as well as having chosen a very capable army to become my soldiers.
Wolves, trolls and native snow elves had fell at my hand, each group had been converted into my undead frozen legion.
The god of darkness was heralded as the master of death, his legions of undead were known as one half of the strongest army in the world to my unending envy.
I am LORD KERGULAN!!! The thought of a mere god surpassing someone like me was laughable, I cursed my own ignorance for ignoring the pathetic pests for so long.
I spent months experimenting just to achieve the same terrifying power that the rat possessed!
I, Lord Kergulan had finally achieved power over corpses. The creatures who fell against me were injected with my frost magic once dead, I puppeteered their corpses with ease.
My commanders were even more impressive, those I had captured were converted whilst still living into stronger beings than ever before using my incredible frost magic.
After staring out towards the village from a nearby hill, I raised my hand to send forth my troops in perfect formation.
Three hundred frozen soldiers marched towards the pathetic human village, earning the attention of the meager resistance.
Fighting the commoners interested me little, myself and my three commanders watched the battle unfurl from above.
I looked on with ecstasy clearly painted on my face the faces of the village residents looked beyond the bounds of the slaughter they were trapped in.
The entire village, no the entire area around the village was being hit with a blistering blizzard the likes of which the riff raff had never before seen.
My power was such that meagre humans would tremble at the sight of me, and the humans trapped in the village were no exception.
There was a negligible amount of resistance from the village guards, but all in all the battle was over before it even began.
I leapt down into the centre of the village, injecting my power into the remains of the villagers as even more soldiers joined my legion.
There was soon only one living presence in the village, a human soldier who seemed more hardened than the rest.
He was cornered by a frozen lake, my soldiers pushing him to the brink as he retreated onto the ice.
I soon greeted him myself, raising my arms to bring forth two walls of ice spikes which trapped the man withun as they joined together behind him.
"You will do nicely."
I formed a blade from my ice magic, skirking as I lunged forward at the human who would become my next commander.
The townsfolk were rushing away from the scene and towards the teleportation array, I was being pushed by the sheer number of people along with everyone else in E class.
I couldn't do much to resist the cumulative strength of an entire town, finding myself swept along by the human wave without much chance to struggle.
We eventually found ourselves stood on the array which began to glow with a feint blew light, followed by everyone being warped to a new location.
Blinding white light hit me as I felt myself floating in a void, split down the middle between blinding light and total darkness ; Two hands formed from the voids and reached out to me, grabbing my shoulder before I could react and injecting some sort of power into me.

"You're getting stronger, we will grant you some of your true power."
The voices came from seemingly nowhere, hitting my ears with authority and power along with warmth and a sense of comfort that I had never really felt before.
I eventually turned, I was stood on solid ground but the place didn't look remotely similar to the previous place.
The townsfolk continued to run even after arriving, they were clearly very afraid of the kingdoms troops.
I myself was busy reading a sudden notification from the system.
It sounded ridiculous to me until I checked my status.
Name: Rem Gallant Lvl: 22 Race: God Class: Healer, God of Dark & Light Class skills:
Healer: Heal, regeneration.
God: Shadow conscription. Magic eye creation. Partial awakening (Titles will be fuel for your growth, your feats as a god will be another source of your strength)
Skills: None Unique Skills: Role Reversal Blessings: Twistars Blessing Titles: Heir of Light (Light magic 2x stronger, Int +10) , Heir of dark(Dark magic 2x stronger, Int +10), Shadow lord(Wis, Int + 5), Light prince(Wis, Int + 5), Hero slayer (Str, Dex, Res, Vit + 10). Str: 32 Dex: 32 Vit: 32 Int: 71 Res: 32 Men: 22 Wis: 51 Stat points: 10
Such a thing seemed so absurdly powerful, I could feel the strength flowing through me after my 'partial' awakening, and I even had unspent stat points left over.
It seemed to come after recieving the right number of titles in addition to crossing level 20, but I didn't mind where it came from so long as it benefited me.
If I had gained power on that level from the start then I wouldn't have struggled with most of the enemies up to that point.
The place around me was frankly bustling, it was a cold place and I reflexively started shivering once I felt the chill.
I looked around, seeing the breathtaking snowy mountains beyond the tall city walls.
The city was huge, I hadn't seen the capital we were summoned to but I had no doubt that the city we were in matched it in scale.
E class all started to reconvene, along with the mage who had ran away at the sight of the archer hero.
He recognized my power as the one who had managed to defeat such a strong hero alone.
He knelt down in front of me and began to speak in a more formal and respectful tone than anyone had ever addressed me with before.
"My name is Ark, giving you my name means that I will be loyal to you. My liege."
An oath towards me, even though I possessed no status or influence in the world we were in.
The change in attitude surprised me enough to make me freeze in place, but the kneeling mage before me was attracting plenty of attention towards me so I quickly guided him towards an inn.
Ark continued to kneel once we arrived at the inn, only stopping once I allowed him to stand and bought the two of us a meal.
In the meantime, I let both Mars and Apollo out of my shadow and gave them orders to hunt monsters outside of the city until they couldn't grow at a reasonable speed any further.
They left without hesitating, leaving me with Ark who still looked at me wirh the utmost respect even when eating the inns meat and bread and drinking what I assumed was mead.
I had never drank back on earth, but I often saw other people the same age as me partying and drinking and having plenty of fun.

The mead tasted decent enough, I found it hard to stomach at first but I soon finished a whole mug.
The drinking and eating went on fairly late into the evening, Ark also managing to drink a fair amount himself before becoming red in the face.
I lacked any sort of regenerative abilities, so it was expected that my body would be affected in part by the alcohol.
There weren't many effects outside of a slight dizziness which faded fairly quickly, stronger bodies with better stats seemed to handle booze.
The room in the inn was fairly large, at least large enough for me and Ark to sleep comfortably for the night, we were provided with two beds and enough room for me to dump my posessions.
I had the chance for the first time to properly check through everything I had looted with a magician nearby, of particular interest to me were the books looted from the Orc wizard in the mine.
Ark seemed surprised but happy when he saw them.
"My liege, such advanced magic is truly an amazing gift for someone like me."
His attitude had flipped completely but his sincerity was there, he had sworn loyalty to me so I didn't expect him to be rude or indifferent to me but his complete allegiance still baffled me.
Ark studied the magical books with extreme satisfaction and intrigue, flipping through the pages of the books with audible gasps and the sounds of realisation.
"So that's how it was... truly my magic has plenty of room to develop."
I left him to his readings and checked my status more throughly, the battlefield having limited my observations for some time.
My abilities had grown considerably, the boon granted by the titles was enough to easily put me on par with Apollo's former power or perhaps even greater.
I knew that using magic for combat would be essential too, my high intelligence stat would make my magic power incredibly effective.
I began trying to form my magic into various shapes, trying to use the mana itself but failing to form it into the desired shape with each attempt.
Acquiring basic magic books became a hogh priority for me once I realised that a brute force approach would take a long time to make progress with.
After my failed practice attempts I layed down to sleep, the exhaustion from the days events evident as my body sank down into the bed and remained entirely still as I slept.
The following morning was comparatively simple when measured to the battle against the troll from the previous day or the death sentence the king gave me the day prior to that.
Ark and myself went down to eat at the inn, we recieved quite delicious though not particularly sweet porridge and plenty to drink.
The innkeeper was clearly giving us good treatment because we payed for the most luxurious room in the inn, my gold reserves were enough to purchase a small house after raiding the profitable orc mining operation afterall.
Apollo and Mars returned to me during the knight, they seemed impatient and restless in the morning as if they were itching to test their new strength.
The other E rankers had chosen to stay in the city aswell, they had the gold necessary for a few nights inside most inns and in the morning we met by the spot we had all teleported to the day before.
Alex greeted the two of us, our uniforms allowed us to recognize eachother but mine had become dirty and badly damaged from the battles. I was basically forced to wear the wizard orcs mantle ontop of my uniform to hide the patches of skin, human blood, dirt and monster blood covering me.
Buying a change of clothes seemed like a decent bet, we would be able to get clean afterwards and then change.
I found a shop selling high quality clothes designed to look good whilst keeping people warm, enchantment could even happen on average clothes which made me quite relaxed when thinking about the possibility of people succumbing to the cold without heavy and combat restricting fur clothes.
I got a fairly simple shirt, pants and light coat enchanted to warm my body underneath. Shoes were a bit lacking but there were boots decent enough to survive the cold whilst being practical in a fight.
I couldn't find a way to cover the crown on my head up without the coat and hood that came with it, the crown didn't budge the night earlier so I presume some condition was required for removing it which I had yet to fulfil.
Having to pocket the costs of everyone else may have seemed unnecessary but I figured that it would have everyone warming up to me, quite literally.
Ark was wearing a cloak he specifically picked out to be 'mage appropriate' and was making a fuss over them not taking me to the 'vip changing room'.
Ark had gone from silent, rather reluctant and sheepish attacker to truly loyal follower just from seeing me display my power in defence of him and the others.
His enthusiasm was great, his loud studying from early hours of the morning less-so.
Myself and several people from E class went to the city bathhouse to clean ourselves, the hot water was a nice relaxing change of pace and allowed me to notice physical changes happening to my body.
I had always been relatively fit, maybe underweight if anything but never fat. I never worked out or had impressive muscles, but for some reason my body had become more refined and strong looking from just a few days. Such a thing wasn't possible under normal circumstances and I knew it.
The others in E class were still low level, and likely jealous of the power I wielded. Having a chance to relax at the same place and time seemed to ease the hearts of everyone who looked upon me previously with fear and jealousy.
Ark was looking at the others with satisfaction and talking to them with condescension about how staring at the lord was disrespectful during my 'relaxation time'.
I left the bathhouse once dry and changed into my new outfit, I felt more comfortable than I had for several days after finally getting clean and changed into new clothes.
The others were organised by Alex into various material gathering teams whilst the more combat ready people started doing odd jobs to raise their levels.
I excused myself and asked the fairly friendly locals about a good place to test new abilities without breaking anything, i was told about a fairly empty area north of town which was apparently perfect for combat testing and got used all the time
It took a negligible amount of time at my full speed to arrive at the place I assumed was the right location, it was a huge stretch of empty land resting against a massive cliff.
I let Apollo and Mars out and had a look at them as they shook with anticipation, throwing a dagger over to Apollo to improve his chances in close combat and watching his shadowy spirit swallow the weapon and produce an identical shadowy copy.
I knew it would just be a test but the feeling the two shades gave off was rather intimidating, my instincts knew that a ridiculous battle was about to take place.

Free Your Mind
A journey through the mind can be a mixture of the good, the bad, the pure, and the evil. Free Your Mind is a collection of poems and short stories that I've written over the years. As of now, this book is still in progress, but I've planned to release at least 25 to 30 chapters minimum for Free Your Mind. Hopefully you enjoy reading through the works already published for this book, and I hope you'll stick around for what's to come in the future. If you have any comments, ideas, critiques, etc. please let me know! I'm always open to what people have to say about my work. Free Your Mind is a way for me to dabble into releasing my writings for the public to read. And hopefully, if all goes decent with this book, I'll continue to upload different works alongside this. Note: Currently the cover work for Free Your Mind isn't mine. I plan to upload an original design once I've completed the chapters for this book.
