《Smoking Bandits》SB2.1 - First Hunting

In Frontier Towns like Pinetown, people can earn money by selling game animals, field intelligence, killing the Hostile Race, or preying on other hunters.
Of the many hunters who do not hesitate to prey on other hunters, Vivian Huskie is one of them. Although she never went too far by killing her prey.
When Lark entered Glue Pub Vivian immediately targeted him. For her, adequately equipped young hunters are easy and tasty prey.
As a Wolf People, Vivian has very sensitive hearing. She easily heard Lark's intention to rent Glue House, and when Milev returned to Glue Pub alone she immediately drank her milkshake and decided to take action.
Vivian easily climbed the back wall of Glue House, then quietly leaned against the side of the kitchen. After making sure there was no activity in the kitchen, she took out two thin iron bars.
'I have to take your money dry before you spend it in brothels.'
With ease, Vivian hacked the door before her and entered Glue House kitchen.

Even though he had a place to live, Lark did not immediately take his belongings out of the Wrist Pocket. Pinetown is no different from the Wild West. So he had to be careful.
Therefore, after taking a bath he chose to relax while enjoying smoked meat. From Drakar's villa, Lark managed to get 60 kg of smoked meat, but now 20 kg of them have entered his stomach.
'Looks like my appetite has turned into a predator that requires foods at 30% of its body weight.'
With a deep breath Lark rubbed his stomach which was still a little hungry. Right now, food becomes the most vital thing for him, because the more he eats the stronger his body will be. He also just realized that Wrist Pocket's main function is to store food reserves.
'Man. . . What happened to my body?'
Lark pondered his current situation, and he would have lost into contemplation had he not heard subtle footsteps moving closer to the kitchen.
'I've been living in this house for less than an hour, but a thief has come to visit.'
After a deep sigh, Lark got to his feet.

Carefully, Vivian walked into the living room while leaning against the wall. However, suddenly her instinct rang loudly. Warning her of the danger that was watching from the corner of the room.
Slowly Vivian turned her head, until her gaze met a young man who was standing casually.

The young man was wearing a T-shirt and shorts that were in contrast to the wall behind him, nor was he standing in a dark corner. However, he blended into the room extremely well, like a predator born with a natural talent for hiding his presence.
"Welcome, what can I do for you?"
The young man greeted Vivian with a smile, but Vivian realized she couldn't seem weak. Without hesitation, she reached a mini crossbow on her waist and aimed it at the young man.
"Give me your money and you'll be fine."
Calmly the young man took a 100 gr gold bar from his pocket.
"Careful."
The young man threw the gold bar, and Vivian caught it.
"You made a wise choice. Now, don't scream and let me leave quietly."
Seeing the young man nod three times like a chick pecking at rice, a smile instantly bloomed on Vivian's lips. Slowly, she retreated.
Once she passed the kitchen door, Vivian immediately ran to the back wall and jumped over it.
Meanwhile, the young man tried to remember the appearance of the girl who had just robbed him.
"Wolf's ears and tail, cute and childish face, long straight bluish-white hair, clear blue eyes, snow-white skin,145 cm height, and about 8-10 years old."
The young man sighed deeply before continuing.
"But with a very sad expression."

Most hunters in Pinetown hunt twice a day. From dawn to noon, they will hunt prey to fill the needs of meat in Pinetown as well as hone skills. While at dusk until midnight, they will hunt Hostile Race to control or even erode their population.
Long before sunrise, at least one thousand hunters would gather at each gate of Pinetown, then set off in groups to ambush prey that was about to graze.
Carrying two water jerry cans, Lark walked past the crowd of hunters who were waiting for their comrades. The hunter in charge of recruiting rookies let him pass by, thinking he was being waited on by his senior colleagues.
After passing through the western gate, Lark moved straight to the north. As soon as he entered the woodlands, he sent his belongings into Wrist Pocket and transformed into a Lizardman.
'Let see, how good is this body for hunting.'
Relying on his smell and sight, Lark then traced the trail that the game used to go where they were grazing.

The sun was just rising when a stag walked proudly through the tree line. Eight meters behind, a harem of five doe followed obediently.
Lark calmly watched the family of deer approach his position. Camouflage not only turns his body invisible, but also erases body odor and other things that can tell his presence.
That's why, even an experienced and alert stag is not aware that it has just led its family to the mouth of a predator.
At a glance, Lark instantly identified his target. The young doe second from behind, considering the other doe was carrying a baby deer.
Truth be told, a long time ago Lark and his colleagues were fond of putting baby deer in their whiskey, then waiting for them to ripen before enjoying the best whiskey they thought was second to none.
However, after seeing so many deaths close-up, Lark somehow became disgusted by his hobby of making baby deer whiskey. He then switched to photography as a hobby.
Slowly but precisely, Lark incised his claws onto his target's hind legs. The young doe instantly jumped up and ran, but in its third jump Paralisis showed the effect. The young female deer helplessly fell to the ground.
While the stag led the other female deers running away, Lark knelt beside the unfortunate young doe. Without delay, he did the bloodletting.
Bloodletting is best done by cutting a large blood vessel next to the heart, and the incision must not hit the heart so the game will not die before the blood is drained. If done correctly, the game's blood will be drained dry in 2-3 breaths.
With precision, Lark cut the large vessel beside the heart of the deer. Then buried his mouth into the wound which drained the blood like a creek. A mouthful sip after sip he enjoyed before finally the deer blood was drained.
'What a delicious and healthy breakfast.'
With great satisfaction Lark licked the blood around his mouth, then put his first game into Wrist Pocket. A moment later, he was already moving to find the next game.

After successfully getting three young deer weighing 60 kg each, and a young bison weighing 400 kg, Lark then went to test M14 which he took from Drakar's armory.
On Earth, M14 typically uses an 18 or 22-inch barrel. Meanwhile, the M14 from Drakar's armory uses a 20-inch barrel. The body and the carrying sling are made of a very light but strong synthetic material, painted in a green and black tiger stripe.
The M14 is equipped with a telescope which is more than enough to aim up to a distance of 800 meters, and when fitted with a fully loaded magazine it weighs only 5.2 kg. An ideal weight for a Designated Marksman Rifle.
The target Lark chose to test the M14 was a herd of impala grazing not far in front of him.
When in human form, Camouflage can have an effect of up to 30% of its highest potential. Therefore, even though Lark was not wearing a ghillie suit, the herd of impala was completely unaware of his presence.
The hunting code of conduct required hunters to shoot from a maximum distance of 100 meters. So that the prey was hit hard and immediately met death, and Lark did not want to violate the code of conduct. He aimed at a young male impala 95 meters away from his position, then gently removed the M14's safety lever.
In an instant Lark had calculated the projectile's trajectory. Then, he gently squeezed the trigger.
Bang!
Half a second later, the young impala collapsed to the ground. Without delay, Lark approached his quarry and carried out bloodletting using a Kabar combat knife.
Most hunters will throw off the prey's blood because it is too much of a pain to bring it home. But Lark doesn't want to waste raw materials to make delicious blood soup or blood cake.
Deftly he collected the young impala blood into a basin, and after sprinkling it with a little salt and spices he stored it in the Wrist Pocket.
To test the accuracy of a rifle, it would take at least five consecutive shots at a static target 100 meters away. However, with his very sensitive senses, Lark has managed to find out the M14 accuracy after the first shot.
"Not bad, 600 meters for a headshot and 800 meters for adult center mass."
With a satisfied smile, Lark then tied the young impala's front and hind legs before carrying it on his back like a sling bag, and he ensured that the impala stomach faced up.
Without wasting time he then hurried away. Right now he was far outside the Hunting Radius. So he had to hurry to come back before the Hostile Race appeared.

The world has been hard on young Kael. Living his life on the streets, Looking for a way out he tries many things to change his destiny, only to be met with failure again and again. Wallowing in self-loathing, he lives his days without much purpose or motivation. Life, however, had other plans. On a rainy night of watching life pass him by, an explosion suddenly rips our young protagonist out of the bland world he knew. Meeting an old man claiming to be able to use magic, will his life finally change? Will the world finally give him a chance? This is a complete rewrite of my earlier story. Aside from my own personal problems with depression, there were many, many things I came to dislike about the way it was progressing. With the low quality of the earlier chapters, it was in dire need of at least an editing run. Instead of just editing the subpar chapters, I decided to just do it over again and change what I did not like. Please also note that I am not a native English speaker and thus might make mistakes. I have tried hard to find and correct most, but I am certainly not perfect. If you notice anything that is wrong just leave a comment below the chapter and I will try to get to it.
