《Red Overpowered》Chapter 21 - Apprenticeship 4

The high goblin was now watching them axe in his hand. He and the group of heroes were just observing each other, before starting hostilities.
"How are we supposed to beat something like this?" (Maël)
"I have no idea." Said Emma distraught by the situation.
"And I can't fight anymore, already I wasn't very strong." Said Méverick suffering the counter blow of his berserker skill.
The goblin then screamed and charged at the group, ending the brief mutual observation. The goblin's axe went straight for Shawn who parried as best he could with his sword. But was thrown against the wall of the arena due to the great strength of the goblin. He spat out blood from the violent shock, this time if the wounds were also internal. And his regeneration ability would take longer to heal him especially given his current level. Emma then wanted to cast a healing spell on him to heal him despite his fatigue. But the goblin immediately targeted her.
"Emma!" Mael shouted as she attacked the goblin with a large flame attack.
Her attack had gathered all her mana which exhausted her instantly. As the flames began to fade, the goblin emerged with only minor burns. Enraged by this attack the goblin had now targeted Mael who was now helpless. The axe was now heading towards her head, as she closed her eyes.
"Cling !"
A deafening noise sounded, the goblin's axe had been stopped by a sword. It was Karin who was now standing in front of the goblin, her hands still numb from the impact between her sword and the goblin's axe.

Sparks began to appear around Karine, then threads of electricity. Until they became large discharges that spread on the goblin. He instantly recoiled from the electric shock that Karin inflicted on him.
While a wind blade immediately went towards him. But he stopped it with his axe. As the goblin's gaze turned to the direction of this attack.
"Not happy?" Said Maïli who had joined the battle with her group.
The goblin then roared in response as if he had understood that Maïli was provoking him.
"That was really good Karine. I wonder why you've been running away from the fight all this time if you can do that kind of stuff?" (Maïli)

"I didn't have much courage to fight." (Karine)
"Well you found the courage at the right time." Said she, looking at Maël who was still on the ground with trembling legs.
Maïli signaled to Max and Dan and they took Maël away from the fight.
"Do you still have courage to give Karine?" (Maïli)
"Not so much." She answered hesitantly.
"Well there, we're going to have to find some! Maël, Méverick, Shawn are out of the fight. The others apparently don't have the courage or strength to fight." (Maïli)
"Need help?" Said Jay appearing next to Maïli.
"In this situation I can only accept." (Maïli)
While he was talking, the goblin screamed and raised his axe with one hand above his head. Fire materialized and began to gather quickly as they could only observe the scene. After a few brief seconds a massive fireball had formed on it. A red light now illuminated the arena and its occupants.
"Everyone get behind me!" Maïli immediately shouted.
Everyone in a panic then got behind Maïli except Shawn who was unable to move.
"Damn it!" (Maïli)
At the same time Jay ran towards Shawn at full speed as fast as he could. Within seconds he managed to reach him and put him on his back. But the goblin, without waiting for them to take cover, threw the massive fireball at them that would char the entire area. Jay in the urgency of the situation ran as best he could to Maïli. While the fireball was already ready to fry them alive.
"I'm not going to make it!" (Jay)
As from the top of the wall Peney stepped forward to intervene but Moïse stopped him.
"This attack will take them to the edge of death, but I could save them. They need to learn what it is like to face death." (Moses)
"It's sadistic but if you want that fine." (Peney)
The attack was now there he could not escape. While Maïli raised her hands in the direction of the attack. And a thin barrier with a blue color was formed.
Forms a mana shield that stops attacks. Due to its great power, mana consumption is high.
Maïli immediately felt her mana being drained while she had never looked away from Jay and Shawn. Who were preparing to receive the attack. The attack finally collided with the barrier which cracked on first contact. Mainly due to the fact that Maïli was using this skill for the first time. While his mana was dropping at great speed, even putting a knee to the ground. Still staring at the other two, the flames that would soon reach them in a few seconds. At no time did she lose focus, even though a brief memory of a conversation came to mind.

"It's when you're on the edge precipice, that you have to show who you are." (Logan)
In a gigantic effort, she then separated her hands. Immediately the barrier is fisurer even more.
"Maïli you make what!" Shouted Méverick.
"I'm trying to save your buddies so shut the fuck up!" (Maïli)
His second hand went to Jay and Shawn and a smaller barrier formed around them. At the exact moment the flames reached them. It also cracked immediately in multiple places. While in some places flames penetrated it, at that moment what she did was already exceptional. So if they ended up with slight burns it was no big deal.
"That girl!" (Peney)
After a few long seconds the infernal blaze was over. While the barrier was now falling in pieces before it completely broke. Maïli's face was filled with perspiration, her hands were shaking and her mana had been completely used up. Out of breath, she slipped a few words to particular members of the group.
"I have a plan, but I'm going to need you. Emma can you cast one last spell?" (Maïli)
"Yes, but it will be the last one." (Emma)
"That will be enough." (Maïli)
Jay and Shawn had received burns but had not ended up completely burned thanks to Maïli. They were now lying on the ground. The goblin also seemed tired, he had probably used his strongest attack. While this now stood before him Maïli, Karine and Éléonore.
"Emma use your spell on us!" Maïli shouted to give the signal of the attack.
Emma did it and gathered her last forces to throw a buff spell.
Support spell increasing stats by 30%. Regenerating up to 20% mana and boosting its regeneration to the same percentage. There are no counter hits to the caster and receivers.
"Let's go!" Maïli shouted.
The 3 then ran towards the goblin who raised his axe to attack them. They all 3 dodged the attack while the lightning escaped from Karine's body.
"Give it all you've got!" Maïli shouted to Karine.
She then confronted the goblin head on, who with each attack took strong electric shocks. The axe and the sword clashing several times violently. As the electricity burned her own body in places.
"Eleanor you ready?" (Maïli)
"Just a little longer." (Éléonore)
Wind was gathering around Éléonore in large quantities. As Karine exchanged these last blows with the goblin. Whose body could no longer bear the violent electric shocks and that Karine was accumulating burns. She then finally managed to break through his defense and thrust her electrically charged sword into his stomach. The goblin screamed in pain, while Karine had now already moved a good distance away.
"Éléonore!" (Maïli)
"Here we go!" (Éléonore)
A gigantic gust of wind sent the goblin into the air. As Maïli used her second element for the first time. Flames were emanating from her now in large quantities.
"Wind and fire are both volatile elements. Mastering them must be very slightly different, but on the same basis." (Maïli)
Maïli then remembered Sarah's advice.
"You must bend the mana to your will." (Sarah)
All the flames then converged in the two hands of Maïli to form a fireball. Just as the goblin had done earlier with his axe. But his hands started to burn from his lack of control.
"Argh!" (Maïli)
She then shrugged off the pain as her skin burned slowly devoured by the flames.
"So here's the difference between fire and wind." (Maïli)
Arrived at the maximum of pain that she could support she sending the ball of fire towards the gust of wind. Which soaked up the fire to mix, creating a gust of fire. The cries of the goblin could now be heard, so who burned alive.
"This young lady is impressive." (Peney)
After a good thirty seconds in the flames, the goblin's screams stopped. And as the gust of wind dissipated with the flames, a charred body slowly fell back down. Before crashing to the ground, the body of the goblin was now lying on the ground completely black, smoke still emanating from it.
"Congratulations, you passed the test." (Moïse)

She's tried other VRMMORPGs, but they've all been fantasy-based, with a couple sci-fi games thrown in. But she wants something more, something Super. Cycles of Ruin
Civilizations rise and fall. Kith build them up and monsters, led by powerful dungeon keepers, bring them to ruin. For three thousand years the cycle has been maintained by the Guild of Chaos and its endless hordes of minions who—in absence of their long lost creators—have taken it upon themselves to keep the realms of the universe in balance. The Guild has grown efficient at this task, but some among its ranks have begun to ponder the utility of a universe that has been robbed of the very possibility of change. Basil von Doom is one such dungeon keeper working for the Guild, leading an army of loyal minions from one conquest to the next; burning civilizations and sifting through the ruins in search of forbidden knowledge that the races of kith were never meant to possess. But having spent more than half a century in pursuit of glory and fame—trying to live up to the legacy of his father—Basil has grown indifferent towards his work. Desperate for a worthy challenge, but bound by his duties as a dungeon keeper, he has turned his mind towards uncovering the ultimate fate of the previous master of his house and the secrets that were buried with him. Now the young Master of House Doom must balance his growing interest in pursuing the trail of his father with the responsibilities that come with running a dungeon in service to the Guild of Chaos. To remain in good standing with the Guild, Basil has even accepted the task of mentoring an apprentice dungeon keeper, a young succubus named Elnora. It is at the tail end of her apprenticeship that the story begins; with a civilization poised to fall—its greatest heroes gathering for one last assault on the heart of darkness—and Basil striking up a conversation with his apprentice that will set into motion the unraveling of the universe. ***This is a rewrite and continuation of my story that was first posted on RoyalRoad a few years ago.

Return of Chaos
For the longest time, it was thought that the citizens of Earth were the only denizens of the galaxy incapable of developing superhuman abilities — but recent events have flipped that assumption on its head. Between Austin Travis, Mote Emerson, Pierce Bradley, and their friends, Earth is now host to 12 Chaotics… as well as a myriad of mysteries surrounding them. From a new nemesis in the form of a clone, to connections to ancient technology from a long-lost civilization, to the ability to summon powerful legendary weapons, these 12 Chaotics have unknowingly become entangled in something larger than any of them have ever imagined. As if in response to these discoveries, the sinister machinations of galactic evil are churning. The metallic infection, a calamitous nanotechnology “disease” thought to have been vanquished 20 years ago, is slowly returning — and alongside it, a number of conflicts thought to be long past. While they only seek to better grasp their own abilities, Earth’s Chaotics will soon find themselves in the crossfire of returning threats and old heroes. These superpowered Earthians may not have chosen this path through life, but it will still be up to them to determine if history remembers them — to determine if history remembers the saga of the Keys. Return of Chaos is a direct sequel to Chosen Chaos, which begins the Key Saga novel series. Be sure to read Chosen Chaos first, to understand the plot and the characters thus far! Additionally, the Key Saga as a whole takes place 20 years after Rise. You will not need to read Rise to understand the events of Return of Chaos, however the latter will spoil many of the events that occurred in Rise, due to the simple chronology of taking place later in the timeline.
