《This world is strange》Chapter 93. The tower entrance

Joseph and Leonard were supprised as they show up in the camp.
"What?"
"I set up a teleport in here. It can only be used once, but it saved us."
"Really? You can make one?"
"It takes time and a lot of monster cores, but yes."
"I see."
Leonard walked to them.
"Did you get back already?"
"Yes. It was a failiure."
"What happened?"
"We got to the door and stopped the turrets from shooting, but the armors came upstairs. So Catherine got us out."
"I see. But how did you get back here?"
Catherine smiled at him.
"Magic."
Leonard looked at them in turns.
"Makes sense. So to the next plan? Or do you want to stop?"
They looked at eachother, Catherine was the first to answer.
"Let's go with the next plan. One of us lures them away and the other one opens the door. Then give a sign and both of us enters."
"Sounds easier, than it is..."
"Doesn't it always? But don't worry! I can get them away easy!"
"Really? I thought I'll be the bait. Thank god!"
"I can run a lot faster."
"I know... But you don't have to say it like that."
Catherine and Leonard laughed at him.
They preapered a route for her to avoide the other guards at the houses and places where to hide if she can't run. They didn't know exactly how much time Joseph would need for the spell, but they estimated that she can run for at least half an hour without a problem.
"If anything goes wrong, we just send a firework to the air and run."
"Nothing will go wrong! It will be a piece of cake!"

"Why are you so confident?"
"Why would I not be?"
They were talking while walking downwards.
'I wonder why is she so confident. She knows that this is too dangerous to play around.'
They reached the houses near the tower.
"The ice should still be frozen. With that much mana it would stay like that for days."
"What if they broke the ice?"
"Freeze it again."
"Sure. Though I don't know if I can freeze it that easily."
"You got half an hour. It should be enough. Now go."
"Okay, okay."
He went around to the back of the tower and walked to the side. Then noticed that the robots were closer to the stairs this time.
'They are actually learning. I did not expect that.'
He saw two magic missile flew into the two guards. They started moving to the direction Catherine was at.
'At least they still don't suspect that we split up.'
He went upstairs and looked down. They were running after her at a scary rate, but she tricked them with a sharp turn and got out of sight.
'Good luck!'
Joseph looked up at the turrets. They were still frozen, so he went closer to the pedestals.
'So all I have to do is reading out the parchment loud and send all my mana into the door.'
He started reading it.
'It is only two rows. How come that they did not open the door by the time we got here?'
As he read the words out, new began to appear on the scroll. Then new one again.
'Is it different every time you want to get in?'
As he finished around 30 rows the door lit up and a sphere of blue light shone up in the middle of the door. Then it changed into a hand mark.

'Do I have to place my hand on it?'
As he did the door opened up. It was dark inside and an unpleasant smell of rotting flesh came out.
'What the...'
He sent a small ball of light into the sky. It was the signal to Catherine.
After waiting for a few minutes she came running to the stairs.
"Did it open up already?"
"Yes. How did you fare?"
"It was easy!"
She was panting and sweaty as she got up next to him.
"Now. Shall we enter?"
"Yes."
Joseph made an other ball of light, which lightened up the inner parts of the tower.
As they walked in the door shut behind them and torches on the sides of the room lit up.
It was a circular room made from metal. There were tables and chairs all around. At the other end there was a counter like in hospitals.
"Is this a waiting room of a sort?"
"A what?"
"A waiting room."
"I would've said, more like a pub, but that might go here as well."
"Right. It can be a pub as well."
Joseph looked around one more time. Precisely he looked at two things. The other end of the room and the small moving item above the counter.
"I think someone or something is in here."
"Why do you..."
She also noticed it.
"Is that an other one of those turrets?"
"No. It lookes different."
'Why is there a camera in here. Also who made all these stuffs. They are too modern for this world.'
They started to walk closer, then the camera locked on them. Catherine touched Joseph's shoulder.
"I feel like someone's watching us."
"I think so as well."
They walked closer to the other side and Joseph saw the thing clearly now.
"Just as I expected. It's an elevator."
"An ele-what?"
"Elevator. It can take people up or down."
"And how do you know that?"
"I've seen it somewhere."
"The place where you came from?"
"Sort off."
It was an elevator door, with two buttons at the side and a floor counter on the top.
She looked at him suspiciously, but he just walked closer. He wanted to push one of the buttons, but changed his mind.
"Should we get in?"
"I'm not sure. I don't know if it's a good idea."
"I think as well. We should look around here first."
They went back to the counter.
