《This world is strange》Chapter 86. Getting the materials

The last street was somewhat different from the others, with it's dark red color. There was one robot, but instead of patrolling, it was standing in front of one house.
Joseph sighed.
"Right at the front of the house we need to get in."
"Isn't the solution obvious? Let's get in from the other side."
"I was thinking the same, but it seems too easy to me."
"We'll see about that."
They went down and across the street. On the other side they went behind the buildings and walked to the house they saw.
They were looking at the back door confused.
"Surely it is trapped..."
"No! I checked for magic traces and physical traps. I have not found anything strange. It is just a locked door."
Catherine was just as suprised as Joseph.
She grabbed the handle and turned it. The door opened.
"I corrigate myself. It is not even locked..."
They walked in to a bakcroom. It was an empty space with a door on the otherside.
"Still nothing. Joseph. Are you sure we are at the right place?"
"I mean... This house was red, not like the others and there was that armor outside. I don't think we could mix it up?"
They walked to the door on the other side and opened it. They went through 2 more rooms on the ground level and then went upstairs on the stairs next to the backroom.
The upper level only had 3 rooms. The whole house was empty. No furnitures, or anything else. Just the clean floor, walls and the wooden doors.
"This place makes no sense. It is completely empty. Also there are no traces of magic or anything. I thought it's an illusion, but no! It's just EMPTY!"

Joseph didn't know how to react to her. She went downstairs and opened the last door, which lead down to the basement.
"If there is nothing down here, then I'll..."
She didn't finish the sentence, but held out her hand in front of Joseph.
"I've found something. It's a faint magical trace, but at least it's something."
The whole basement was one small room overgrown with blue moss.
"Do you see what I see?"
"Yeah... It seems like we got our first stuff... It was... Too easy?"
They stood on the staircase looking around.
"Do you think it's poisinous?"
"It doesn't matter."
Catherine held out her hand. A faint blue energy flew out and cut down a little part of the moss. Then a blue swirling portal appear below it and it fell in.
"We got the moss."
As soon as she said it, all the moss moved at once and the air started to fill up with spores.
They ran out and shut the door behind them. Then left the building through the way they came in.
They continued on to the next house. It was the same as the last house. A robot in front of it, not even moving and a red house.
"This seems fishy to me. I would even say that those armors are not even working in front of the house."
"I don't know why do you think so, it has magic energy in it!"
Catherine was right. Even though she can sense it, Joseph couldn't even try now, because his core was cut off.
"Let's sneak in the same way?"
"I had the same thought."
They got in and the house was just as empty as the last one. The only difference was that, on the upper floor there was a golden looking tendril growing everywhere.

Catherine cut it and got it into the portal the same way. As soon as it happened, it started to move towards them fast.
They barely dodged it rolling down the stairs. As soon as they got up, they ran out.
"I think we are lucky, that you can just cut it like that. If we would've used a knife or something it would've catched us."
Catherine just noded.
The last house was just as the first two, but this time the ground floor was overgrown with a plant that had branches everywhere. It had pink leaves, so they just grabbed a few and left. It did not even do anything against it.
They finished the circle and got back to the place where they got down to the city.
"You know I'm really suspicius of these "archeologists"."
"I mean Leonard trusts them... Though it's true that we shouldn't even trust him."
They looked around, but they were alone.
"Should we just go up and show them that we got the items, before we try to get into the tower... Actually I left the scroll up there. Without that we might not be able to open the door."
"Really? I thought you put it into your backpack."
"I thought the same, but it wasn't there when I checked it a few minutes ago."
"That is strange. Let's look for it then."
They started to walk up.

Chaos Wave
The year is 2055. Virtual Reality has been around for nearly forty years, and the Full Sensation Dive System has been around for about thirty. The various countries of Earth have long since given up on Warring against each other in this dimension when it turned out that with the FSDS (Full Sensation Dive System) virtual worlds became real, especially once Richard Alonzo Albeque's AIQNPC (Artificial Intelligence Quest and Non-Player Character) System was released and spread like a wild virus across all the active MMOs. People vanished from their Dive system, leaving nothing behind of the person they were, and the Characters they were in game become locked out, and no longer responsive to the System. In addition to this, they are suddenly showing up on ALL servers of a game at the same time, almost as if they were now an NPC. The governments put a stop to all distribution of FSDS Technology, and keep an eye on these 'Digitized Players'. Ten years pass and one of the first ever Digitized Players, a Level 500 Catgirl by the name of Atreya the Dawnbirth, created a stable portal between their MMO and Earth. With the return of one of the players, the governments remove the bans on FSDS Technology, which has still been researched heavily while under the ban. Wars break out over control of Virtual Worlds, but these wars are all fought ON the Virtual World, so the Earth isn't polluted further. Immortality is now available to all who seek it, if you can find a World to call your own. Of course, nobody paid attention to one of the few warnings Atreya brought back with her... The NPCs sometimes became sentient and disobeyed coding laws.

Earth Ravaged: The Alliance Chronicles Book 1
Originally published on Amazon in 2013, now published here as a serial for the free enjoyment of all. Book 3 to come later this year. This one could also stand a complete re-write with the knowledge and skill I've developed in the interim, and I may do so once I have pushed out chapters for the third book in the series. In the not too distant future, a group of seven people will set out on a mission of exploration to a nearby star system. Their destination is the Tau Ceti system, one of ten planned destinations as part of a new privately-funded space programme, involving many countries across the Earth. However, old problems still exist, and while they make their successful launch, they have no idea what begins to take place at home, what they will face on their journey, and who decides to pay Earth a visit while they are gone.
