《This world is strange》Chapter 53. Trials

Joseph only saw darkness all around him. He did not feel any ground below him, nor the gravity pulling him. He felt like he was floating in the air.
"Hello?"
His voice echoed over and over.
"Is anyone in here?"
No answer, just more echoes.
He concentrated on his hand to make a small ball that would shine in the dakness, but nothing happened. He did not know where he was or how did he get here. All he remembered was that they just beat those monstered and then he was here.
'Something must have happened. I have to get out of here!'
He tried to move around, but he did not know if it actually worked or not. He turned around but he did not stop and spin around a few times, before he could stop himself. He felt nauseous, but it was different then usually. He only felt his head hurt, but his stomach was fine.
'Am I dreaming? Or is it an illusion?'
As soon as he thought about it, he saw lights flash all around him. He got confused from the sudden lights and got blinded for a few seconds. Then he noticed that one of the lights was constant. He tried to move towards it and he felt that the light was closer and closer, until he was standing in a fully lit white room.
"Where is this?"
He did not hear any echo anymore. Because of the whiteness he saw nothing just even more white.
"Hello?"
Instead of an answer he felt a hit in his back and stumbled forward.
"Ugh..."
He readied himself for other attacks pulling his hands up to defend himself. Then he felt a hit on his side. Then an other one on his left leg.

'This can't go on!'
As soon as he felt a hit on his back again he turned around and kicked in the direction, but he hit nothing, but the air. Something grabbed his legg and pulled him forward. He fell down and felt a kick on his head. He got confused, but rolled to the side until he hit a wall and stood up with his back to the wall and readied himself once again.
As soon as he felt something hit his left side he moved with the attack and hit back. He hit something soft. It felt like he hit someone's stomach. The thing let out a loud shriek and the room lost it's whiteness.
He was in a room made from cobblestone and a mannequin was next to him on the floor. It did not move anymore.
"Did I kill it?"
He kicked it, but it only rolled away from the kick.
"Seems like."
A door appeared on the side of the room and opened up. He only saw darkness on the other side. He sighed.
"Back to the darkness I guess."
When he step through the doorway he found himself on a hallway with white and black tiles on the ground and a door on the otherside. The place was well lit.
"What the hell is this place?"
He crouched down and examined the tiles on the ground.
"I bet they are trapped."
He step on one of the white tiles before him and instantly jumped back, but nothing happened.
"I'm either lucky, or it's not trapped."
He stepped on the same tile and indead nothing happened.
"Okay! Next one?"
He stepped on a black tile. He heard a click from the wall and jumped back as soon as he could. From the left to the right several arrows flew in front of him. He barely dodged them.

"I was lucky with this one. Ok!"
He tried a white one this time and the trap did not sprung. He went on like this until he got through the place. He dodged all of the trapps except for one that was fire instead of arrows and it singed his clothes.
When he got through and stepped in the next room he got in an other place with a throne on a pedestal on the other side. A skeleton was sitting on it and it was in a leaning on one of his hands. It got straighened up when it saw Joseph.
"One more that tries to use my sword."
It sighed.
"Listen here fella. If you want this sword, you have to winn against me. You are the ... at least hundredth person to try. I'm tired of this. Please be strong enough to take it."
Joseph was confused.
"I did pick up the sword, but I did not know it was yours."
"It is fine, I'm trapped here until someone can win against me."
"Then why don't you just let me win?"
The skeleton opened it's mouth wide and laughed whole heartedly.
"That would be nice. Belive me I would do that just because of that comment, but I can't. My sould has been trapped in this sword and I'm forced to fight anyone who touches the sword."
"I'm sorry about it."
"I appreciate it. Shall we begin?"
"Last question."
"Yes?"
"A creature was using this sword before. How come he was able?"
The skeleton shoke it's head.
"It wasn't a creature, but an armor filled with magical energy. It had no mind, so I couldn't pull it's consciousness here."
"I see."
The skeleton held it's hand out and a sword, that looked the same as the one that Joseph grabbed, appeared in it's hand.
"Now let us begin. I'm King Charles the 3rd! Challanger make our fight worthwhile!"
"My name is Joseph Smith and I'm honored to fight you!"
He did not know why did he say this, but it felt like he was forced to say it. He felt his sword on his wraist. He grabbed and pulled it out. It was cracked just as he remembered.
'I hope this will hold out!'
They ran at each other ready to strike.
