《Emperor Of The North [Dropped]》Chapter 46: Flames of Revolution Ignites as The Lich King Rises

Tides, sides of war may change, but one thing that will not is the very existence of war. It is humanity, or in this world, creatures themselves.
Allies will turn their weapons to each other one day, brothers will kill each other for power, and the ones you trust most will stab you from the back.
I like how everything synchronizes so well with these words. "The only thing that never changes is that change itself." This change can be good or bad, but it will happen one day.
"Move! And raise your arms for freedom, brothers! Today is the day we take down this fortress and raise our flag to the sky, where we are free."
Today is the day that marks the lit of the fire that will show us our fate. We will either win or lose. There is no turning back from now.
But how did everything come to this?
Three months ago, the prison I was staying in sent me on a suicide mission with four other people.
This suicide mission that first seemed for killing us ended up being our ticket to a better life. We found delight in the freedom after escaping from the forced hard labor and harsh treatment.
We occupied an area and created a safe zone for ourselves, then we found ways to gain food and water, but my plans grew as the number of prisoners joined us increased.
The current civil war outside filled inside to its limits, and wardens decided that they should send old prisoners (not in age but stay time) inside the city with a promise of giving freedom to ones who return with treasures from inside.
What a shame for them that we were rebuilding the city meanwhile.
Our numbers, which recently stayed at hundreds, grew so fast that we reached numbers close to three thousand in a month.
Feeding that amount of people was hard at the start, but more people means more hands for work, and monster meat is edible.
So, I fed, equipped, and trained that new workforce much as I could in the little time we had for a battle.
There are already twenty thousand prisoners waiting inside against the four thousand wardens. If we can pass the valley filled with watchtowers and giant ballistas, riot will crush the wardens in no time.

That's why I have weapons of my own.
Mud walkers are armored, deadly, and large. I could use them both in battle and work.
A small army of hundred Mud walkers can break through lightly armored warden's line and allow us to charge forward.
But they are only one of our secret weapons.
We have a man we all trust in frontlines, Silvertower, a dwarven who comes from the bloodline of a demigod. He is raised from his eternal slumber by me and fighting on my lines.
He is my most important ally with his wisdom and strength. I am talking about someone who can easily lift a throne that weights more than a ton and throw it like a cannonball.
And his wisdom is old but wide, from magic, runesmithing, and diplomacy, to engineering and leadership. With enough trust-building between us, he can become one of my best friends in this world.
And my last and most dangerous weapon, Hollows, powerful undead creatures who are a threat against not only living beings but to anything that carries mana.
They consume what they choose as prey and add that into their body mass. Hollow's bodies are insanely resistant against magic, and because they are larger than a two-story building, one of them can work as a one-person demolition team.
"To the gates that locked us inside. Brothers! March with your pride, today is the day we gain our freedom for once and all. Today is the day we end everything."
Above from ground behind the back of my Wyvern. I am shouting with all my lungs to increase the morale of my soldiers.
And they shout back.
"For freedom! For unity! For the Lich King!"
For the Lich King. This part has a deeper meaning hidden behind it. These words show how the world can change.
Liches, associated with death and captivity (as they turn their victims into moving corpses and rip off all the authority they had on their bodies.) all the time, but today one of them is marching an army of living for freedom and life."
But everything happened not just because of me. This world is already cruel and corrupted to its core.

Gods aren't even responding to their prayers but sending child after child for another war.
But it is the believers who suffer more every day because of the never-ending war against the world itself.
So our armies marched.
And we stopped near at the gate, an army of three thousand, supported by two Hollows, hundred Mud walkers (and armored man riding them), and with a horde of thousand undead ready to sacrifice themselves.
"Silvertower, do you know how to open this gate?" I asked the giant dwarf.
Silvertower laughed with a voice that echoed through the cave and began moving towards the enormous iron gate. "Of course I know."
Then he lifted a statue placed on the door and opened a hole, then he put a key into a hole, and after the thunderous sounds of an ancient mechanism working behind the gates, our road is open.
Two unlucky wardens were slacking off from their duties, who got killed hastily.
"Wait, brothers!" I flew in front of the troops and stopped them. "Let me handle the ballistas placed and then march after with me."
"Okay, boy, we are going to kill some assholes today. Fly fast, kill fast."
Wyvern screeched and began flying forward throughout the valley. Fionnlagh, the creature I spared his life, was flying faster than he ever did.
Shocked wardens placed at the valley were screaming and trying to alert their comrades, but too late. We reached the first watchtower.
While I hastily departed from Fionnlagh's back and crushed the head of the warden standing at where I landed with my polehammer. Young Wyvern used his ice breath to freeze and keep other wardens away.
"So, that is the renowned ballista made for keeping Hollows away."
I began inspecting the giant siege weapon, It is a real shame to destroy something like this, but it is necessary for now.
I began hitting the vital parts of the mechanism until I made the thing useless, while Fionnlagh kept the enemy away with his breath, claws, and bites.
"Finished, let's move to the next one." I hit with my polehammer one more time and destroyed the drawing mechanism of the ballista, eventually making it useless.
I jumped to Fionnlagh's back, and Wyvern quickly lifted off from the tower, and we began moving towards the other one while our army marched from behind and destroyed any wardens standing in their way.
We jumped from tower to tower, killing the man waiting at the top, destroying the mechanism while one of us held the rest away, then our army killed the remaining enemy.
And after one more landing, the last ballista is destroyed, and it is time for me to send the heavy weapons, and I don't need to talk and destroy the surprise. Their footsteps, on the other hand, will!
And the fortress began getting shaken by the two massive creatures running towards the enemy lines on four feet.
Arrows and bolts are nothing. They are not powerful enough to pierce through the skin, and gunpowder cannons? They can only slow them.
My Hollows breached through the enemy lines in no time, and screams began rising.
Wardens who got caught by the Hollows are getting devoured alive by the abominations, and the only thing they can do is scream, screaming with terror, but nothing is going to save them from their inevitable end.
Slowly but steadily sound of our marching troops and their battle cries surpassed the screams of wardens.
"For the Lich King, for the freedom!" My men shout as they march.
But the real battle is only begging.
Hollows managed to kill hundreds of wardens when they caught them at the openings, but Hollow's bodies were too big for them to move deeper into the fortress.
It is up to us to break the resistance.
Wardens are lining on the stairs, creating a formation made out of shields and bows.
"It was a good fly, boy, now stay away and let me handle the battle at the ground." I pat my Wyverns before jumping to the ground.
I raised my weapon to the air and pointed towards the enemy lines. "It is time to finish everything."

Embers in the Ash is an epic fantasy adventure story that aims to span quite a few chapters (I hope!). To set expectations, this isn't going to be a LitRPG or power fantasy-style story. I'm aiming for a fairly grounded story set in a fairly high-fantasy world. I hope you enjoy it! For this first month of publication, my aim is to give you, the reader, something to really bite into. I will be releasing a chapter every day at 9:15 AM EST (13:15 GMT), as well as the occasional double chapter (which will always be announced by a post-chapter author blurb). Check in fifteen minutes after the first chapter's release! After this first month of publication, the aim is to go for either a weekly or bi-weekly release schedule, depending on the sort of time I can reliably dedicate to writing. Either way, settle in for the long haul, and welcome to the story!
