CHAPTER 2 - Massacre at the Mountain’s Base
A shriek rang out and resounded within everyone’s minds. A demented cross between a newborn babe and a horse’s neigh. Even as the echoes slowly died out, they all could tell what it meant.
It meant they were screwed, big time. Somehow the beasts had found them.
The original group of over a hundred had been whittled down to just twenty strong just to meet their end today. At the base of the once Appalachian Mountains, death would come to them in the form of grotesque monsters.
The monsters stood a good two heads taller than even the tallest in the group, who had hit six foot five. Rough, mangy fur covered every inch of the creatures that only split where jagged spikes jutted out like swords. Eight legs covered in a bug’s exoskeleton met the body of the almost horse torsos.
The worst part of the creatures though were their eyes. A kaleidoscope of hexagons that shined from within. A dark essence seeped through and fogged around their faces.
One terrible look from the beasts caused stiff legs and an immediate seizing up of limbs.
Of course none of this affected her. In fact, the looks of fear upon everyone’s faces actually brought a smile to her own. She almost couldn’t hold back the laughter which threatened to explode out. Her grin about to break her small oval shaped face. Even the purple within her hair seemed to glow just a bit more than it had a minute ago. Was this her chance?
But no, she couldn’t help but think the scene before her was too sad. The group composed of well traveled men and women shaking in their boots, and all it took was a measly pairing of grotesques to show up.

Couldn’t they remember that the low number of beasts was the exact reason they had chosen to go this path at night? They’d all heard the horrors of swarms of horned creatures which attacked from the sky in the morning. Unicorns, they called them. The thought too hilarious to really believe. Of course they also knew full well that even if they wanted to go in the morning the vast majority of them would die doing so.
Even she would be included in that number, not by choice but by consequence. The damned makeup of her new body.
It wasn’t all bad especially considering-
Ugh, how irritating. Can’t these guys do anything but scream? If they don’t shut up soon it’ll be their fault if I end up unable to hold myself back.
A good minute of screaming continued on as the grotesques bit into the flesh of the nearest vict- travelers. The group losing more and more of their numbers until eventually, Oh well, it can’t be helped. If. I. Just. Let. Loose. Right? A small head tilt rolled as the last word went through her mind.
Before the word even finished, a large weapon appeared out of nowhere into her hands. Upon one side was a large warhammer which was impossibly balanced out by a scythe on the other end. Where the two parts came together was a spears head. The weapon’s grip perfectly fit within the nooks of her hands. It’s weight fell just in time with each swing as she then proceeded to ‘let loose’ upon the crowd.
She never stopped moving for even a second as flashes of red splattered around her. A swing of her arms here. A thrust there. And when she was feeling especially ‘loose’, a smash. And then another. And another. And another, until eventually she was fully immersed in the feeling.

A laughter eventually woke her from her stupor.
“Who dares to laugh in my presence?” she hissed out. Only noticing that after she asked the coward stopped.
In the end, she walked off without a single glance at the mess she left behind. All in order to find the disrespectful voice from before, not once thinking the voice might have been her own.

The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody
[participant in the 2018 NaNoWriMo Royal Road challenge] The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody is a LitRPG system story where each person transitions into the system, or SCHEMA as this system is known, innocent and unaware of his former life. Following the tutorial, memories return, but by this point, each person has a better chance of accepting their new world. It also gives them an opportunity to start from scratch, fresh without all the baggage of their former lives dictating their decisions in the early stages of the process. I don’t expect this will necessarily turn into an action-packed heroic tale, my intent is to create a character who wants to have just an ordinary, but reasonably comfortable life. I don’t know myself how well he will succeed, there may be twists and Tom may discover some heroism hidden deep inside. I guess we’ll find out together. This is my first writing attempt. I’ve wanted to write all my life, but I’ve never been able to develop the proper discipline to put in the work. I hope I complete the challenge and work my way past this hump. I am writing this as part of the NaNoWriMo Royal Road Challenge. While I will try to self-edit as I go, the challenge requires close to 2,000 words a day, so parts of the story may be rough, and things like plot lines may not make as much sense as any of us would like. If all goes well, and I complete the challenge, I plan on going back through everything and trying to polish it up. In the meanwhile, thank you for reading and I hope I don’t disappoint.

This is NOT a number-crunching LitRPG. The System is an add-on, not the story itself. Also known as I Reincarnated as an Immortal Caterpillar, the story follows a monster and humans in a system word with a Buddhist/Hindu philosophy. The System is especially influenced by this philosophy. Cover by the ever so awesome Jefferymoonworm Warning! Not for trauma survivors.

Dreamland
Dolores is a lucky girl with a high-level avatar in a very popular game. She did not level it up; she got it through some fortunate circumstances. She is not interested in fighting and levelling; all she wants is to have some fun and follow her own fantasies. If only there would not be all those idiots who intend to kill her, capture her, or simply use her. And those flaws in the game! Wait, what? Those pesky game characters now appear in the real world? And they can do magic? How did this happen? Adding to her troubles, her crush does not even look at her. As Dolores tries only to survive and hide between 'normal' people, she encounters stranger and stranger things that force her hand and, in the end, she has the answers to a lot of questions. It is a slow-developing story. I had a lot of fun writing it and hope to share it with you, dear reader if you also enjoy it. On the other hand, putting it in an acceptable form requires much work and energy. I intend to bring it to its end and not let it unfinished. I hate it when I encounter unfinished stories, so I understand the feeling. This is not a classical isekai story. There is travel between the two worlds, and the game world seems to be so very real... well, this is one plot of the story. This is not an MMORP game story. Part of the action happens inside a game world, but it is treated as a real world. Updates on a weekly basis, at least Monday and Friday, with additional bonus chapters as time and energy allow. Cover art: White Flower as A Dark Fairy by Darkrealmsmaiden Yolanda gracefully allowed me to use her dark fairy as cover. There are many more beautiful works of art to be discovered at her site: https://www.deviantart.com/darkrealmsmaiden Additional Grammar Trigger Warning: As a non-native speaker, I do my best. Unfortunately, this is not enough for people with a low tolerance for warped sentences and... they may want to skip the story :( Well, you have been warned :) I appreciate it when a reader points out a sentence that needs rework. That may spare a follow-up reader some pain and helps me understand where my English grammar problems are. * We thought we made the best game in Earth's history We thought we made the best interfaces ever seen We thought we made it - lifelike But it far exceeded our expectations. Dolores, I hope you're happy now. I hope you're alive now...
