Hart shakes me, smiling, "She's fine, sir." Aiden comes on the radio, *Good, did they get away?* I nod, "Yeah, she fought like hell."
He pulls me up, "Bitch sucker punched me."
He smiles, "Happens to the best of us."
The arch where I came from, no person could get through all that by themself. "How did you get through all that?"
Looking away, he scratches his head, "A pipe and some force." I squint at him, "Whatever man."
Something crashes over the radio with Zero talking, *Ok, we've cleared a way out. C'mon.* I march towards the group as Hart drags behind.
I limp past the doctor and out the door. What now? Last time you were a medic's muscle, you put everyone in danger.
The hallway becomes foggy as I grab at my forehead, "Leave me be already."
I can't believe you tried to shut me out again. I can feel him tighten around my neck while navigating through the fog. I quiver with each step, I can't breathe!
"Bolt?!" Someone waves their hand in front of my face. "You in there?" I gasp for air before darting my eyes around the hallway. "Were you sleep walking or something?" I squint, "Norbert?" He scratches his head with oily hands, "Yeah, wanna clear that head?"
I look down then let him lead me through the halls. We both were silent until we enter the garage. He drags me to a jeep, "Grab a tire iron." I stare at the tools and grab it. He helps me get a wheel on the jeep, "I know you're with Engen" I immediately turn as he holds out a lug nut with a grin, "What? I'm good at electronics."

I take the lug nuts and start to fasten one it as I mope, "Whatever, I don't care." He frowns as he tightens the back wheel, "Why so sad? We're so close to our goal." He whispers and hides his mouth from the others, "Engen's goal."
I take another nut and insert it, "Our goal is stupid. It does too much damage to everything involved." He sighs while pointing, "I left a whiskey bottle in the trash over there." Another lug goes in as I blink rapidly, "So?" He grins and I drop my iron. "It came in over an hour ago." I get up slowly, but stumble two feet from the can.
The whiskey bottle has a flash drive in it. I dump it into my pocket before throwing the bottle back in. I try digging into his shoulder, but my forearm stings with pain. I grab at it and wince, he giggles under his breath as I whispered, "Why do you mercs know where I am at all times?"
He yawns, "What you mean? I was told to find you and give you a job for today." I slowly limp away, "Can you at least finish the wheel first?!" "Finish it yourself!" He shakes his head and gets back to working on the other wheel. As I get outside, the UM-70's come in as snow falls.
I try to jog towards it, but Switch just won't let me. C'mon Switch, talk to me at least.
Why would you want Switch? You've got me. All I can do is limp towards the landing zone as Garvey pulls me back.
"I don't want to feel hopeless!"
Bitch, please. You already gave up on saving the world.
"At least I've got another goal that's possible." He asks mockingly, Protecting your team? The UM-70's land in the distance as snow showers the center. "Even if it kills me."

Cole wasn’t expecting to be threatened with decapitation the morning before his high school graduation, but alas, The Tower was practically meant to train humans to slay demons like him. Could he really make it to the top with essentially everyone trying to kill him? Even if he could, would he be able to survive the world that awaited him beyond The Tower’s walls? Cover by Jack0fheart Certain tags won't fully manifest until later in the series, so that's something to keep in mind. This is my first novel, so go a little easy on me. Its been ten years since Seth was given his powers, ten years since his town was driven mad by that very same power, and ten years since its source was shunted into his head. A species of energy beings, a people filled with regret for what their entrance onto this world caused. Regret for the deaths that town perpetuated, the devastation they brought, the blow they served to the once proud heroes of this world. Heroes Seth now hopes to join, hopes to heal and atone to for what transpired. But their wounds run deep, their ire sharp, and their acceptance thin. And to top it all off... Seth's power is run far deeper than he knows, and sees his world in a light all its own. This series is my first foray into authoring, with two parts out of at best four if the readership stands. But part three will still book end nicely otherwise. And I'm not stopping till then. It is action heavy with varied and ramping up fight scenes through out. (Book 1 is heavy / Book 2 a little lighter) It is bloody in places, mildly gory in others, and heavily gory in simulated places. Nothing truly horrifying, I think, but be warned. It has trauma. PTSD is a major part of the story, but I will never trust that I got it completely right, so your mileage may vary on how believable or impactful it is. Lastly it has language. Swearing ebbs and flows as the story progresses and attitudes harden or soften. Sometimes bleeding through into the narration... somehow.
