《The Undeniable Labyrinth》Chapter Thirty Five: The slimmest hope

With a few words, warm support and the right lies she had lifted Kyso’s spirits. It was better that he feel good about what he’d accomplished, what he had done, what he could do. The less pressure on her, the better, considering what she had promised.
Althea turned away from him, to look over the room, the stacks and shelves, the array of grimy, below grade tech of all kinds. He hadn’t likely done it all himself, but it was the best attempt to preserve old Legionary technology that she had seen on a lost word.
“You’ve gathered quite a collection here,” she noted, turning back to him, smiling, hoping the statement sounded appreciating, implying that he should be proud.
Kyso shook his head, and his misery returned.
“Most of it doesn’t work,” he told her with a touch of the frustration she had heard before. Then his tone collapsed back into tiredness. “Much of the rest we don’t have the trilium to power.”
His eyes were full of shame – regret.
“I’m sorry,” he finished. “It won’t be much help to you.”
It was true. Nothing here was going to tip the scales on whether or not she was going to destroy the Macro. The grade was too low; the parts she needed to interface with the Macro couldn’t be here.
“Don’t worry about it,” she tried to be convincing.
He didn’t respond the way she’d hoped – instead choked back derisive laughter.
“How can you say that?!” his disbelief turned to fury. “We are going south!”
She took a step back, preparing for violence. Then the intensity, the anger in him just faded away, leaving him to collapse back down.
“I wanted to be prepared,” he told her, now seeming on the verge of tears, “in the slimmest hope that the Consortia would return. And now that you have…”

He trailed off, picked up a cylinder from the thruster unit, bent and worn, then suddenly threw it at the floor. A hollow metallic ring rung out, repeated as it bounced away from them. She looked back into his face – tensing herself for his next outburst – but it didn’t come. He looked at her, looking lost, then turned back to the table.
“This is useless,” he spread an arm over the whole assembly, spouting his frustration angrily. “It’s crap! It’s all crap.”
Althea wanted to tell him to stop, to tell him that everything was going to be all right, but held herself, waited.
“I wanted to show you,” his voice was pained again, holding out his hands, “that we’d preserved something – not just remnants, not this garbage. I don’t even know why I try with this; I’m not even a technician – an engineer. Do you know what I am – what I was?”
She shook her head.
“I was an actor,” He announced dramatically, “for close to a hundred anna – but here, now – no one understands the subtlety of a performance. They only need food, power, bits of remnant technology. Oneness, I despair for the future.”
He sat back down, heavily, head in his hands, shaking in unspent energy, giving up. Althea couldn’t suppress her sympathy anymore, stepped forwards, started to reach out to him, drew back.
No, it’s dangerous to get too close.
If nothing else, her experience on Hadhalho had reminded her of that.

Keeper's World
Keeper’s World is a side-story series dedicated to telling the various tales that occur within the world of World Keeper. It is not suggested to read this story without first reading World Keeper, as most of the content would not be properly understood without that context. As these are side stories, they will not get as in-depth as the main series, often skipping over large chunks of time in order to deliver the main points of the story in question.

In the near future, most work has been relegated to machines and people are content to spend their time immersed in virtual reality, something they cannot get enough of. Thomas Walker, an ex-racecar driver who blames the hidden algorithms that run society for losing everything that is important to him, finds himself at the center of a string of bizarre vehicular attacks and becomes assured that someone is out to get him. Meanwhile, Lucas Bennett, an anxiety-ridden software engineer, is contracted by the leading artificial intelligence corporation in the US to decipher the inner workings of their flagship AI that have become incomprehensible even to themselves, a job that he is very invested in since he considers technology the solution to his personal as well as mankind’s timeless problems. Unknown to the public at large, the CEO of the company is bent on unleashing the full capabilities of that AI to handle every single aspect of society and individual lives. When all hell breaks loose, the two men and those close to them team up to survive and fight back against the horde of vehicular attackers and the Intelligence behind them while also clashing together over their views: is artificial intelligence a way to humanity’s salvation or doom? Betrayal abounds, nothing is as it seems and the traffic is a real killer. The story is finished and I will be publishing a new chapter every Friday. 8 93The Start of a Unusual Life in an Alternate Reality(Soul-AR. You know like solar)
"You ever wake up and just know that day is gonna be f****d?" Our protaganist is dealing with what we like to call, "Summoned Hero Syndrome", its when someone is kidnapped to an alternate reality/world/plane/or dimension and they start to narrate their life as if its a book. This is a story of his minds auto-biography. A story of action, adventure, intrigue, gore, comedy, videogames, references, and possible sexy fun times. A.N: This is my first story and possibly my only one and it may never become finished. Please excuse any spelling and grammar mistakes. Im doing this on my phone and i hate the small ass keypad. Hope you enjoy readings and even if i may not like it feel free to give your opinions and CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISMS. I dont care for those who are being assholes that are non-helpful. I only care for the people who are helpfull. So if ur a smartass be so while helping. Also idk if im gonna add a harem. Some stories should have em while others shouldnt cause they cause a huge detraction, hope im using that right, from how good a book can be.
