The sword glittered with strings of green light as it weaved around it. The sword was a mass-produced military grade item from the Republic of the Third and could only be given to the soldier who had served their country. Although the weapon seemed unique to ordinary people, it actually the lowest of the military grade weapon considering it only had a single spell weaved into it.
"Mayson, while I fend off the beast, you grabbed the children to a safe place!" The man called out to gain control from the unexpected event.
"Got it, Disc." Disc waited shortly for the mist to be clear before he can take any action. When the jackal saw that its preys were trying to flee, it fought back with ferocity. The young girl who was being chewed on was spat out leaving behind a gruesome corpse. Disc interfered with its approach by blasting out a gust of wind causing the jackal to be immobile for a split second. The Jackal lunged at Disc.
Lyndon, who was laying on the ground, was the first one to open his eyes but was not able to move as much. It was due to his unique constitution that his body was able to partially overcome the mist. And also with the help of Disc quick action, thus, preventing any more poisonous mist to be breath in.
Mayson saw the mist was cleared and began heading in the direction of the children. The closest ones were Michael and Lyndon.
Lyndon, who could only open his eyes, did not have the strength to lift himself up. He was confused, scared and wanting to cry.
'This kid was able to wake up… He should be able to recover soon.' Mayson thought to himself as he picked up the two onto each of his arms before he moved back to a safer location. 'I should be able to get the rest of them in thirty seconds and after that…' But before he can complete his thought, another poison mist erupted out of nowhere from the woods and blocked his path between the other children and him.

'What?!' Mayson could see Disc was stalling the Jackal through the green mist. 'That means…'
"Disc! Be careful there is another one!" Mayson yelled to warn him.
When Disc turned around, it was already too late. Another Jackal appeared along with the mist.
Mayson abruptly dropped the children to prepare to save Disc. He took out a black rubric cube that was similar to Disc and tapped on it materializing an identical sword similar to Disc.
'I have to make it.' Mayson inspected Disc. He could see his movement was getting sluggish.
"Kid, if you can understand me, I suggest that you do whatever you can to run." He told Lyndon but he was not sure Lyndon understood what he said. He honestly felt bad about what Norm did, after all, Lyndon was just a young boy. Even more, he was the only one who can save himself. Lyndon was mentally challenged but hope is hope, no matter how little the chance was, there was a chance to escape.
Mayson soon dashed forward with a gust of wind ignoring the consequences of letting the soon to be a slave to escape.
Lyndon was not sure what was going on but when he saw Michael painful expression, he used all his might to fight off against the numb feeling. He considered himself as Michael friend even though it one-sided and even more, they barely know each other. It was because of Lyndon mentality that he could not tell the ill-intent from other people. He blamed himself if other hate him.
'I want to be normal.' Lyndon true clear thought was declared although, for a short second, it was an unknown achievement for him. Usually, it was disorderly that he could not make any normal thought as if they were encrypted messages that no one could decipher.

Horizon
Emiluna is about to turn 16 and gain access to her first two classes. Living in a small village in the middle of nowhere, she always wanted to become a Hunter. Having learned a bit under her parents, a miller and a seamstress, she was sure she could never pick a class that meant staying inside all day. But being a Hunter is more than just a class. It means providing meat for the village, culling small pests near the cultivated fields and most importantly guarding the village from predators and monsters. But Emiluna is not a normal girl and her destiny far bigger than she could have ever imagined.Join her as she finds out what awaits just behind the horizon.[Word from the author]I am looking to create a fantasy world that has some logic to it and stays believable even as characters gain power and progress in levels.Classes and level quantify the people's progress, but they do not artificially inflate their power to demi-god levels. I am primarily trying to write a captivating story, not "power-porn". That means it will be slower than the fast burning litRPG you might be used to, but it won't burn out that quickly either and I won't drop half of my plots at the wayside. I should mention that English is not my native language. I hope it is mostly unnoticeable, but sometimes I manage to slip some awkard sentence structure in there (German sometimes puts things together in reverse). It it also my first time writing an actual fantasy novel and the first time writing anything at length in English. Any constructive feedback is very welcome.Credit where credit is due: Cover picture by Paul Bica (Licensed under CC 2.0)Check out his amazing photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/dexxusYes, my cover picture is a photo, not a drawing. :D I might try my hand at some Paint-ification later to add the title.[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
