《Defy the Heavens?》Chapter 3

I stood up to flex and rub my eyes. I couldn’t help pacing around. Merely a week after focusing on this demonic scripture.
How did I know that it was demonic text?
First entry, If you can read this, it means you are fated for something legendary. I created this scripture because I felt that the heavens were unfair. That the proclaimed demonic texts were laughable. My comrade, these Heavenly Sins will change your life. It may bring out the worst in you or the best. There is no right or wrong method. As long as you chant and follow the diagrams, the best you will come forth.
I hope your fate aligns with fortune.
If that wasn’t enough, then my eyes which were originally slanted and black are now golden iris resting in flames. I didn’t exactly look humanoid either but it only took me that week to make it back to peek of the core formation stage.
Over a period of time, as I trained and went out to eat. I noticed more guests piling into the inns. People specifically watching me and even patrolling guards increasing the street. At first, I thought they were after me but I quickly found out it was the opposite of my thoughts.
The Prefecture military were recruiting men and all those of families with networks in sects, were sending their of age men.
I didn’t pay much attention to it. I am only eleven after all.
So I stayed in my inn, focusing on breaking through to the Golden core realm. Sometimes I went out of the city to practice cloud stepping body movement. Modifying it to exhibit the effects of explosive flames, which propel my hundreds of feet instead of ten or so.
One of the biggest defects, I found cultivating this scripture is that my mind seems to be focusing in on, say, my negative disposition. I don’t mean like despair or wishing bad things to happen.
Hm, I am currently walking through the market eating four marinated meat kebab. Whenever I see a lady with a nice figure, my mind instantly focuses on her. Even though, I don’t make any decisions to do much more than stare. However, this is already outside of my normal behavior patterns. Back on Earth, I didn’t care much if someone was pretty or not. Nor would I zeroed in on them.

I stopped under the shade of a nearby stall and checked out the woman dismounting from her carriage. Like many Asians, a hard thing to get past, the succulent beauty, they emphasize is all within the face. Just them having a round or heart shape ass is already a privilege bestowed by the heavens but to expect them to be buxom and ample packaging in the rear?
The heavens apparently were blind.
It’s outside of the world's logical parameters. For an american such as myself, it’s almost a curse. For someone that isn’t even a breast person, sending all the women with pretty looks but small breasts and thin hips. It is kind of discouraging.
I pulled out a towel from my satchel and wiped the grease off my lips.
Two more equally beautiful servants stepped out of the carriage and began bootlicking. Straighten her coat, clearing the ground before her every step with qi, a solid waste of human.
I was just about to move on after getting my eye full when I noticed six horsemen galloping towards a little lass waddling across the street to catch up with her mother.
I bet the mother probably thought it was safe to be that far ahead of her daughter during normal times. Nobody would raise much fuss within this town. It’s far away from the center of the kingdom and resides near the borderlands of the beasts. Only people who are making a living here are mercenaries and families escaping the radicalness of noblemen.
However, these wild riders had an insignia of golden tiger over their left chest. Swords strapped to their mounts and focused not on the child but the woman who just disembarked from her carriage.
I clicked my teeth upon noticing the mount had no intentions of jumping over the child.
Savages.
Slight tap of my feet and I appeared beside the girl. Lifting her up by her weedly little nape and appearing beside her mother who had only just turned around, as if in slow mode. I dropped the girl at her mother's feet and turned to see if the noblemen would give me a reason to kill them in this town which sported rules of no killing.
The nobles didn’t stop and only dismounted when his mount became inline with the carriages. He jumped off and easily landed on his feet like a prince charming, swaggering over to the lass who had a dimple smile on her cheek.

I shook my head and turned away from the mother who was checking her daughter over while offering me thanks.
I began sauntering back to the inn but stopped part way. There are two types of feelings you get when you are being stalked. One is chilly and hair raising, which emphasizes someone tagging you with killing intent. I learned this valuable lesson from my father and with the wild reinforcing it.
The second type is just curiosity being too strong and they are watching, following you from what they believe is a safe distance away. This type of feeling isn’t easy to put into words. It would be just like a weird buzz at the back of your head. You would or might just feel a little strange.
I felt the second one which made me glance back and study the moving crowd. This street wasn’t all that congested with pedestrians. At most, you could count forty people walking on both sides of the street, Few carriages and mounts in the center.
However, single glance back and I picked out the target watching me
He made no change to his posture or any attempt to hide it. From my lousy aura reading skill, I could tell he is a late golden core expert. Something said to be very powerful on the outer edges of the dynasty.
The strongest clan here is the city lord and they merely have elder at early stage Nascent realm. A former disciple of a fallen sect but his offspring aren’t even qualified to hold his shoes. Complete lack of talent and ability to challenge themselves, no discipline.
Upon the man becoming aware that I noticed him, he made his way over. He’s dressed in military uniform with a special badge I wasn’t used to seeing. A cross of swords, when the common badge is shield and sword.
“Young lad, how about joining the military?” he opened up right away, giving me no chance to decline him. “Before you say no, I am from a special branch as you can see from my emblem. This is a special branch that works exclusively for the Prefecture Lord and receives the best treatment. There is a very limited number of us and thus you don’t have to compete for resources as hard as you would have to in the regular military. So what do you say? Join us and become a squad leader right off the bat? Enjoying hundred spirit stones a month, two special customized blacksmith grade seven weapons plus a grade seven suit of armor?”
I am shocked by his sales pitch. It truly wasn’t a bad deal. My scepter was grade eight and it only provided a sixteen percent boost to my fire arts. Even though I cultivated more fire arts since my first visit to the town, I am not even within the small mastery stage of them.
Making short thought shorter, it’s a good deal
“I’ll join.” I said.
The man looked as if he was ready to throw out counter arguments. His sharp chin was stabbing towards me as he hunched over and prepared his knife hand. As he mouthed what I said over and over, his expression changed from intense focus to utter relaxation.
“Good. Good, very good.” he started wildly laughing greatly that I was scared someone might kill him for disturbing their cultivation.
“Mister, we should head to camp, yes?” I said, glancing side to side at the people looking at him like he was an infected person.
He coughed as he caught on and nodded, “Oh, yeah. Let’s go get you to sign up.”
He reached for my shoulder but I sidestep him as easily as dodging a fist of a common drunk. His eyes gleamed as he continued reaching for me.
Maybe, this was a test in his mind, to really determine my level of skill. But… I felt that he looked especially like a sexual predator and thus when he overextended, I hit him with a fire lotus palm.
Burning a hole through his uniform and leaving a red mark in the shape of a palm on his chest.
The man paused and looked at his chest before breaking out into laughter. He turned around and began walking through the crowd.
Creepy fucker, he is.
I caught up with a single step and followed him out of the city to an army encampment quarter mile away.

The Way Ahead
What do you do when you don't fit in? Edwin never really felt many connections to other people, but as a physics student, that was fine. He didn't really need it, anyway. He was content to peel back the mysteries of the universe... not that there were many left to find. Modern-day research was just too well-established, too well-trodden for any single enthusiast to make any significant headway. But that doesn't apply to other worlds. Not ones where magic and Skills run rampant, where well-defined roles and Classes dominate much of society with little room for novel experimentation from its residents. That kind of world would be perfect for an overeager, newly-minted Alchemist to make his mark. Things are never that easy, though. The Way Ahead is a very slice-of-life story following the story of someone trying to find his place in a world that doesn't know what to do with him. Expect lots of science, lots of alchemy, a few sarcastic quips by the System, and lots of exploration involving the world, self-discovery, and above all, science. After all, further research is always required. Updates every other day at 9 AM PST. Congratulations!
