《Magic is Power》Chapter 4

It was the middle of the day. Gray was laying on the bed having deep thoughts.
“Hmm”
He had 9 state points left to distribute. How should he distribute them? It was a difficult question
“I shouldn't think much about it and split it between strength and agility”
That seemed like the safest option. A higher agility would allow him to move around more easily and having a higher strength was applicable in any scenario. But, one needed to consider all options when making a decision.
First there was the option of Vitality. There was nothing wrong in investing in Vitality, it increased the characters HP. That is critical in order to not die. Needless to say, Gray was still getting used to looking at his body in terms of statistics.
“I could also invest in Intelligence”
Intelligence would increase MP. However, Gray’s MP stat was at zero, this meant he couldn't use magic. As he thought more and more about this decision he realised he was thinking too much. This habit of overthinking was rooted deeply in his personality, although most people would tell you not to overthink something, it was one of Gray’s best and worst qualities. He was told that his ability to consider many variables and weigh them in making a decision made him a sort of a perfectionist, making him reach a sound conclusion.
“Damn it, I’ll just put 3 in strength, agility and vitality each”
He felt a sudden surge in power. His body felt lighter and stronger at the same time. As he was smiling to himself he remembered something. He dragged a small knife out of his inventory.
The Knife had brown straps around its grip and looked worned out.
[Goblin Hunting Knife]
Rating: E
Durability: 11/25
Attack Power: 26
A common Hunting Knife used by Goblins

“An attack power of 26?, my punches are stronger than this knife?”
Gray then heard footsteps and quickly put the knife back into his inventory. A woman entered the room.
“I’ve made some ramen for you !”
It was his mother. She looked very tired but had a huge smile on her face. Gray couldn't help but smile back. She unpacked the hot ramen and passed it to Gray. Since Gray’s right arm was supposed to be broken, he ate with this left arm. He was very naturally very cautious about these things.
“Ah oh ohhh !”
“Ah honey, can you never wait a little?”
The ramen noodles were blazing hot, but they were so tasty he couldn't stop eating. Gray and his mother talked for about fifteen minutes before she mentioned something
“Oh honey, did you read about the dead monster corpses near this junction?”
In fact, monster sightings had increased all around the world. No one had any idea about where they were coming from. However, almost every country's army was successful in capturing them. In spite of all these events, there was no new information from any government yet. However, someone had stumbled upon the monster corpses of the goblins Gray had killed, naturally, this had spread around the world. Of course, there were investigations regarding the incident.
Gray stopped eating for a brief moment before continuing to eat again.
“I just hope that everything goes back to normal, I don't want to leave you in this kind of world son”. She was looking down at the floor with a worried look.
“Don't you worry about me mother” Gray tried to comfort her
Both of them talked for a while. Gray was left alone in the hospital room again.
“I need to get stronger’
This world had changed. Gray realised that it was never going back to normal. He needed to become stronger to protect his family, that was all that mattered to him. Furthermore, with strength came influence, he needed influence to survive in this new world.

“The ‘system’, I have become familiar using it” Gray paused and then continued “Still, there are many unanswered questions”
What was the system? What exactly had happened during the car accident? These were just some of the questions lurking in his mind. Gray thought back to the monster corpses.
“The dead monster corpses, they'd probably not find out that it was me for a while”
Gray had made sure he wasn't seen by anyone during that event. What's more, who would believe that a bed ridden patient walked out of a hospital and killed some monsters? No one. However, eventually the truth would be revealed. There was something more important going on in his mind.
“Which reward should I choose?”

Thomas Filler quickly ran to his car, he was sweating profusely.
“Drive to the president's office” he paused and then shouted “Quickly !”
The driver immediately nodded his head and started the car. Thomas looked out of the window, the city's atmosphere had changed after the appearance of monsters, it felt grim. This level of uncertainty would devastate any society.
What had Thomas Filler heard? There were two things.
What were the origins of the monsters? Nobody had any idea, although there were many rumours circulating around on the internet, there was no concrete proof. However, what could only be described as a dungeon gate had appeared several minutes ago in the middle of a very busy area in the north district, this was a key development. The dungeon gate was still there, and the military was preparing itself to fight whatever came out of it. Although this incident was surprising, what Thomas learnt next was even more surprising, it was what made him go to the president's office and made his eyes go wide.
“Several people had ‘Awakened’ with magic powers”
Thomas was a very religious man, he had prayed even more rigorously during these last few days. He was hoping that humanity had a chance to face these creatures, frankly, to him it felt like the world would eventually end, in fact, this was the first time in his life that he was questioning his hope. For such a religious man, he always had hope that things would become better.
“God heard my prayers !”
Thomas couldn't contain his emotions. He was ecstatic that there was some hope for humanity.
“These ‘Awakened’ people needed to be used to fight monsters”
It was important the government brought these people on their side. Thomas was meeting the president and several executives to discuss this matter.
