《The Bell of the Underworld》A necromancer's plans for a bright future

Grabbing Quilloro's Wand with his right hand, he magically snuffed the life of three peasants as if they had been but flickering candles. The demon lodged in his sleeve seized their essence in a small vial that he held at his belt, then mechanically adjusted the appendage of glass on his nose.
"If you devour the souls of all the peasants here, I fear you can hardly get more than twenty years, thirty if you do not keep any slaves.”
“What?” shouted the mage with an irritated gesture. “This is theft! A scandal! Since when do you not steal the remaining years of life from your victims? My magic cannot have gotten weaker!”
"Oh, no, quite the opposite," the devil recited monotonously, staring at the crying silhouettes waiting to meet their fate. “It's your body, your physical envelope that faults you. If you do not discover the secret of immortality within a few centuries, you will have to eat several souls a day if you do not want your very own bones to turn to dust. Of course, you can always choose to look for the method of vampirism, or to create a phylactery that will..."
“No, no, no and no! I will discover this damn elixir of immortality and abandoning my body is out of the question. What would I do with the dumb brain of a miserable beggar who has nothing to offer but his muscles? I keep my skin, as wrinkled as it is!"
The tiny devil did not answer and plunged back into the wizard's sleeve without saying goodbye. Zamioculcas did not pay attention, already lost in his thoughts. They could last for days if he did not pay attention. He had already spent far too long looking through grimoires in a shabby attic; from now on, he would lead his own army. He imagined the plans for his future home, the organization of the library, the size of the bed, and by the time he felt satisfied with his designs the sun was already close to setting.

Abandoning his reverie, the dark wizard killed most of the inhabitants of the village before heading to the city hall, awakening all the corpses he found on his way. He hoped to find a better chair, maybe even a decent bed - you had to be comfortable to be properly thinking.
The chair of the mayor - whose soul had been particularly tasty - was too soft to be truly comfortable, but the dark wizard decided that it would be appropriate as a temporary throne. Once seated, he found an oaken desk which took four skeletons to be carried to the cellar. The room smelled a little stale, but Zamioculcas felt more comfortable here. He never liked light that much.
For a day or two – he wasn’t sure - he scanned his grimoires, laboriously translating the ancient languages, their complex grammar and uncanny alphabets he hoped would open the way to the desired elixir. When he closed the heavy volume hours later, he felt satisfied: he was progressing, without a doubt. Within a decade, he would probably have an experimental formula that would help him last long enough to reach his goal.

There's a reason people made the word improbable. Just because something would never happen based on common sense or reason, doesn't mean it can't happen. For example, a soul maintaining their memories through the River of the afterlife, a stream of ethereal energies that remove and store memories from the recently departed only to return when they die again. Another example, a soul by it's sheer will maintaining awareness during the process of a new body's development; nearly infintesimile chances of happening, but there is still a chance. Hi, you can call me Esseu (S U) and I managed to do both of those nearly impossible things back to back. My reward for such a feat? I was turned into a glorified bee keeper. Nights of Sambria: And the Wish of Light
“I discovered a secret. One I desperately wish could have stayed hidden. It was locked away, concealed in a fantastical world on the doorstep of 7 billion people who stayed utterly oblivious to it. If they will be spared the terror that is coming, I can’t begin to imagine. Know that a forgotten heritage of a dwindling people whispered, unknowingly sending a call to the ancient mysteries of the world. Something listened. And now events are set in motion that could force the earth on a course of terrible change. I am being hunted and have run out of time. There were no stories about it. No legends. Not even scribbles. Yet, the threat of it is real and that’s why I’m writing this warning with shaking hands. So pay attention those who read this, be careful of what lies waiting cloaked in the darkness. That which made their home the lost places of this world.” She folded the letter with a shuddering breath and stared back in the direction from where the noise reverberated through the halls. It was of stone doors shattering one by one. The chances of getting out safely were all but gone. The letter in her hand was all warning they would have. It dropped into one of the Wells and all that could be done now was hope it was found in time, if at all. -- This was my very first large story. ;) I started writing it years ago. Was fun, was difficult, but in the end, it is a story I hope that will inspire. The prologue is in first person perspective and the rest of the story in 3d. Just a little heads-up :P It is a fantasy epic with a contemporary twist for the start. The first arc of the novel is set inside our modern world, but as the mysterious events around Calin intensifies, the hidden secrets in the world start to become more fantastical. The story follows Calin, a young orphan in search of answers. But, the answers he seeks will change his life and that of his friends forever, for the secrets that caused his situation have far greater ramifications than the small village of Lamb's Crest could have known. Remember to leave ratings and reviews. I'm quite interested in hearing your thoughts on the story. ;) Enjoy reading, Omri Hope

It will implied mpreg on small group of people in my story. It does not effect or drive the story. As the story continues there would be information through a character, but it would be short lived. Also there are many LGBTQ characters. If you don’t wish to see this then don’t read the story. Thank for understanding. The Casle art belongs to Tabor on Pixabay. I modify the cover that relates to my story.
