《Signs of Nature》Interlude: Embassy Observation Report on Physical-Assimilation Parasite
Advertisement
Physical-Assimilation Parasites are a type of parasite infection oriented around assimilating the non-infected into a type of hive mind. It spreads by entering the body’s bloodstream through a cut, injection, et cetera. Once there, it begins absorbs the anima circulating through the body as it travels to its host’s core. By the time it reaches said core, it has absorbed enough anima to achieve sentience or, in certain cases, a mild level of sapience. There is still time to reverse the infection, however. The Embassy calls this stage of infection Tainted.
Curing a Tainted comes without cost, provided one has the right ingredients. The type of ingredients differs based on the infection, however. Using a Black Psyche Chestnut, for example, will fail to produce a proper cure when mixed with a Damask Gutweed Pulp and Green Newt Spit, which are two main ingredients required to brew an Anti-Physical Carnivorous Parasite cure. It is absolutely vital for paladins to memorize the recipe for infection cures, no matter which blight has happened to infect their world. Very rarely have two or more infections inhabited the same planet, but that is neither here nor there. Too many paladins have fallen prey to invading infections due to consuming an incorrectly made cure.
The Anti-Physical Assimilation Parasite cure requires two and a half pips of urchin fat, three cepips of hearty dame apple mush, five cemagnols of Green Newt Spit, one magnol of water, and three mipips of the parasite itself. Extracting the parasite is a simple process; one just needs to coat their hand in anima, reach inside the body and pull a piece of it out.
One might be encouraged to wholly disinfect themselves of the parasite by pulling the entire thing out, but the method is messy; the parasite will struggle against such forceful removal, flinging bits of itself to ensure that not all of it is gone from its host’s body. Once that happens, the parasite will regrow from several different pieces, thus spurring even faster growth than before.

Should this happen, the chances are that the Tainted will not be cured in time and the parasite will have reached the host’s core.
Once it assimilates the core, it now essentially controls the host’s source of power. However, it’s function has not yet been completed. The host is still fully capable of using most of their body and, if they’re a high enough rank, can reclaim their core and eradicate the invading parasite. So the infection must continue toward the host’s brain. To do that, it must alter its structure, shifting from an amorphous blob to a tadpole-like body.
Unlike a Mental-Assimilation Parasite, the PAP must absorb and replace the host’s brain manually in order to effectively command them. It swims through the body until it reaches the spine. After entering the spinal cord, the parasite begins feeding on cerebrospinal fluid while crawling up to the brain stem. There, it latches on and begins to feed on the grey matter, while slowly replacing the brainstem’s functions with its own and fusing its lower body to the top of the spine.
When it is finished, the entire upper spine and the lower brain are replaced by the parasite, which then controls the body as a go-between the brain and the rest of its functions. This traps the host’s slowly degrading consciousness within itself, watching as some…thing hears its every thought and performs actions using their body while they can only watch. The host is unable to speak, unable to blink, or even breath without its permission. At this point of infection, the host has now become a Rotted.
There is still hope, however. A cure may still work, but the chances that the host will survive are less than 53%. Extracting a piece of the parasite will be even more difficult now that it has had time to accumulate a powerful force inside the host’s body.

Not to mention that even if a cure is properly made and forced down a Rotted’s throat, purging the parasite from their body may even kill the host if the parasite has incorporated enough of the brain into itself. If the host is not killed when the parasite is purged, the majority of ‘cured’ cases are left braindead.
Once the host reaches the next stage of infection, there is no known way of curing them. The longer the parasite inhabits their body, the worse the deterioration of the host’s consciousness gets. They lose most of the advanced mental functions that allow them to feel emotion, problem-solve, and the use of anima as the parasite continues to absorb and replace their brain. This stage turns the Rotted into a Defiled.
It loses these functions but the parasite, in turn, gains them, aside from using anima. The parasite itself is incapable of using the Maker’s gift, nor can it force its host to use it once it has undergone a complete takeover of their body.
The infections are blights upon the worlds our Makers have so graciously created for the Embassy. It is only natural that such evil should not be able to utilize the blessings They have made for Their people.
However, if the core is still intact, it can still gain anima whenever the host kills something. It is presumed that infections use the anima gained from their hosts to rank themselves up, just as a paladin might rank their core up. Animus is still largely unknown to and unused by parasites and other infections, thankfully, but some older paladins recall certain mental types forcing some animus-like power out of their host. Luckily, that infection had been dealt with and no more have shown such wicked abilities.
It is important to note that however dangerous a ranked up infection can get, a horde of low-ranked Defiled can and will kill a powerful Paladin. No one is immune to being overwhelmed, except, perhaps, the Underlings. But as most paladins can’t even dream of achieving such power, they should take care not to underestimate low-ranked infected.
The infections are deadly, numerous, and, most importantly, unholy. Remember that, paladin, for there are worse ways to die than infection.

This Strange New Life
Seems like I got a new chance. Better not fuck it up then, since I really want to see what it feels to have a family. Power is pretty lame alone. Best used to build things and protect people. Did a lot of building 'till now, lots of research stuff and all. Now, let's protect the people that I love and that loves me back. An enjoyable life with my loved ones. Whatever the cost. Mufufu~~ What can I do, my siblings are so cute~~ maybe I'll try having children at some point~? --- PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION ^p^ ---- This is an extremely slow reincarnation story, with heavy usage of dialogues and diminutive descriptions. Chapter are posted whenever I feel like it, because I won't burn myself down like I did before. Chapters will often be around 2k words. The first arc, Life in Valince, will be at least 50 chapters deep, and the main character won't get to her 1 year anniversary over the span of this arc. As I said, it's a slow, character interaction, dialogue-heavy story. Lots of feeling, slice-of-life etc, with some dramatic events that shape the rest of the story ^^ AND PLEASE, STOP PESTERING ME ABOUT JAPANESE. this story contain a very limited amount of japanese words, used in context for a reason and that are part of the mystery of the worldAnd the bad guys use german (not because nazi buit because german is badass)And there’s also french. Please be open-minded. I’m not a delusional weeb and this kind of thing, and it would be very appreciated if people could be more polite. If you don't like it, I don't force you to read it, but a lot of people seems to like this novel nonetheless, so maybe you should give it a shot. ---- Lux's here! Yeah I know I should work on ToL and ToF but I had another idea, then another one. So here it is. Story talk about a war vet that reincarnate and can finally know what it is to have a family. I like engineering, creating things and all, so I'll try putting production scene in this. Like all my stories, it's about love, be it with family, friends or lovers. I like my coffee with so much love sugar that half the planet would get diabetes. You're warned. Also, the MC is quite OP, but I keep a progression curb and she still has things to learn, which she will eagerly do. After all, curiosity is one of her main drives, with a thirst for love and utter hate of loss, be it losing a battle or losing someone she loves. Ha, nearly forgot. CONTENT WARNINGS AREN'T FOR SHOW. Sex, of course. I'll try to explore sexuality as a male, a female, and some other PoV that can't be categorised like that, not exactly. Also, beware the yuri/yaoi. I don't limit myself to straight couples. Gore. A lot. Blood everywhere, guts spilling and all. I don't do censure. The Mc cut a wolf in half? you get the details of what is inside it. Traumatising content. I dunno. No NTR, no heartbreaking drama. However, some of you may dislike the way I handle bodies and flesh. Got some feedback about body horror on my previous works, but everyone as a different border separating transhumanism and body horror. Mine is pretty high. How high? Go read The Other Labyrthin to have an example. To put it in simple term, I've no problem at all to describe alien bodies, change in human bodies, interactions between differents strange species etc. Expect a lot of tentacle, bio-incubator, spawning pool à la zerg. Profanity. Well, I think you fucking got it in the very first sentence of this synopsis, ain't right? ---- THIS IS A WIP (work in progress)! Earlier chapters may get retconned or completely changed, structure of the story isn't set in stone, all the usual stuff. ANY HELP IS WELCOMED. Want to throw me your idea? Shoot! Spotted an error in the text? Comment! Seen a plothole bigger than the impact zone of a nuke? I'll gladly hear you out and try to fix the problem (somehow ;-;) --- Cover: John Martin - The Plains of Heaven (c. 1851) ---- Official Editor: TheZouave (starting from ch25 onward) ---- List of thanks: Necrotyr (English) Asviloka (English) Damokles (Review) David Talon (Review) JHA (English) Helbom (English) Slee202 (Common Coherence) NEEDS_MORE_DAKA (First First) Srayan (English) Koooomakimi (Dialogue Flow) Emagstar (English) Apocryphal (Review) ToasterForker (Review) Ellen Taylor (Review) Zak (English) PrimalShadow (English) Elliot Flanders (HUGE THANKS for the re-write of the poem "Tale of Ashen Night" Go check their work, it's good ^^) Lance Wheeler (Huge thanks for the English edit on each chapter ^^) (If you think you should be here because you helped me, feel free to ask, pointing the reason, like the comment you gave that could have helped me ^^)

Kardin lived a happy and good life. That is, till he was given a strange orb by an even stranger man, maybe even a demon. He watches as his village is burned, the villagers slaughtered and his friend devoured. He escapes into the Jungle of The Gods, a place of ancient ruins and deadly animals. There, he is changed and his fate diverges from what should have been his death. Now he must forge his own path in a world of great beauty and power, where death lurks around the corner and battles between veritable gods are fought. Where nations clash and ancient beings destory civilizations on whims. But unseen cogs move under the surface, events transpiring beyond simple understanding. Strange and powerful items called Artifacts have started to reappear across the land of Auren, empowering their wielders far beyond what cultivation can give. The Traezar Empire and all of Auren are on the precipice of war and strange beings have started to emerge, all with an agenda of their own. Chaos is brewing, and Kardin must survive it, all while trying to attain vengeance and understand his strange and anomalous Katra. ***Current Schedule*** I am currently releasing 1 3,000(Sometimes I end up writing waaaay more) word chapter halfs every week. If there is not some sort of notice as to why I have vanished, then I'm probably dead. Let's hope I don't die then, eh? *Ducks under flying knife* I own this cover, put my own blood, sweat and an hour of my time into it. Ahahaha! This story is inspired (I stress this word, as because most of the story is different) by Will Wight’s Cradle. I highly recommend you read it! (Please for gods sake, if you have something to say, please do it in a curteous fashion. I don’t need any more maniacs flying at me and trying to stab me with sporks, I am already insane enough to fill that role.*Winks*) **What is This Story?** Think cultivation mashed with western fantasy, put into a pot to boil and then drunk while it's pipping hot. All the while a mad man(me) cackles insanely over the pot, stirring. It draws from xianxia lightly, which means no exasperated angry young masters. No “genuis” or “prodigy” MC, one that is not OP, or anything of the like. If you don’t like cultivation novels, this might still be up your alley. MC focuses on “Life Shaping”, see poll 2 for more Info. Warning! If your are squeamish, that gore and traumatizing content tag is there for a reason. I shall dive into both bloody and disturbing scenes and the questionable ethics of manipulating life, and some of it won’t be pretty. With a dose of realism added in. I do add my own evi- I mean despic- no, sorry, interesting twists aswell. >:) Also, I HATE info dumps! *Steps out of the way of a charging semi* Still not dead! Arc 1 (Kindling): Chapter 1 - 13 Arc 2 (Metempsychosis): Chapter 14 - 29 Arc 3 (???): Chapter 30 - ??? A disclaimer, I am new author and am still feeling out my limitations. This story is my hope of bettering my writing skills and to have fun. Buckle up and enjoy the insane journey that is Katra. (Pronounced as cah-tra)

"A hero always wins". Well, that's a bold ass thing to say, my friend. "All villains die at the end of the story?" I think it's time to change that!!!

What is your greatest fear in your life?Death, heights, or maybe the creepy mutations with eight legs. For Slade it is boredom ,so when the first VRMMRPG, called Limits, came out you can expect him to sell everything he owns to combat his fear. What will he do when the first thing he does is anger a goddess in game and start without a class. "As he was shivering and feeling cold sweat on his back, he can barely hold back his excitement as he thought that this is what he came here for, a change in life where he could feel his dead heart beating without caffeine to stimulate it." Cover art not mine DM if you want it removed

(Obey me! Asmodeus x male reader)It was a hassle to have a friend who was easily infatuated. This wasn't your problem, until your friend asked for a favor. One that included you placing a bundle of presents in front of someone's locker in their stead. They specifically told you not to disclose their name, wanting to create a secret admirer situation. Maybe luck liked provoking you, because getting caught and saying it was yours certainly wasn't the best situation to get caught up in........(Obey me! Asmodeus x male reader)(( do not own Obey Me! Shall We Date. Character credits go to NTT Solmare Corp.!)
