That Girl Who’s Always Alone At The Back

chapter ii – There’s No Way A Meme Lord Can Be This Cute

Rianne Gray is always alone at the back of the room, no matter what the subject is.

She would just write her notes there, listen to the lecture, you know, like how a normal student should be. There were also times (especially at Math) where I would look at her looking at me. After our eyes met, she would return to her notebook, pretending to write something. There were also times when she would smile at me. I would just greet her with my eyebrows.

“What’s so funny about dat boi?” Mark complained as he was browsing my meme stash. Apparently, I heard the same thing from Mashed Tomato when dat boi was still popular. But now, dat boi is dead. Oh shit, farewell.

“He’s a frog who’s riding a unicycle.” I said as I took a piece of Piattos from him.

“And….?”

“That’s it.” I bit my potato chip.

“I really don’t understand memes.” He said, frowning.

“I really don’t understand normies.” I said.

“Where’s Rianne?” He asked.

“Somewhere far away from you.” I said.

“And whose fault is that?”

Guilty.

“Why on Earth would you even tell her that I like her?” He said.

“It’s the same thing. Why prolong the suffering? I mean, what’s the difference of confessing now on confessing tomorrow?”

“Going with that logic, there’s no difference from you dying years later to dying now?” Mark said, smiling as if he figured the secrets of the world.

“Yep.”

“Then I should kill you now.”

“End my misery.”

And with that, the recess ended.

It was Math when I asked him to do something for me. To make something for the page.

“I’m not pretty sure about this, dude.”

“Gambatte.” I said.

I looked at the camera that I setup on the window and the camera that I have setup on the back. All looks good.

And then all that’s left is for the teacher to notice.

Mark was doing what I wanted him to do. His acting was superb. Not really. He’s just looking down on his hands, pressing on his spaghetti in his hand.

And here it comes. The moment we’ve all been waiting for.

Ms. Lucy Ferrer noticed Mark.

“Mark. Are you texting while you’re on my class?” Ms. Lucy said.

“No Ma’am.”

Ms. Lucy Ferrer walked towards us with her pissed off look. She just graduated from college and we were her first set of students. And I kinda feel sorry for her. And yeah, she looks kinda cute to be honest.

“I’m on my mom’s spaghetti, ma’am.” Mark said with his serious face.

“Mom’s spaghetti?” Ms. Lucy Ferrer then saw that Mark was holding spaghetti on his hands. And all of our classmates laughed hard when they saw that it was true. Ms. Lucy’s face met the palm of her hand.

“Actually, it wasn’t my mom’s spaghetti.” Mark said to the student council’s Vice President. A girl with short blond hair. She had glasses and an emotionless face. Apparently, she’s the Student Council President’s cousin, Claire Svartsevich. “It was my friend’s spaghetti.” He said as he looked at me.

“I should have a taste of this friend’s spaghetti of yours.” Claire said as she tilted her glasses. “Or I shall send your sorry asses out of the school.”

“Oh that’s right!” Alexandria said, smiling giddily. “Let’s have them cook at the club later!”

“Nice idea.” Claire said as she brought out her cellphone and took a picture of Alexandria.

And with that, we found ourselves at the said club room. There were two guys who’re just third years and Claire and Alexandria. I don’t think it’s a club, actually. Their just on their phone’s and doing nothing. Is this even a legit club?

It was weird, cooking for them. But it doesn’t matter since I got my meme material today.

After that hideous cooking show, I went straight to my house and edited the video. And then I uploaded it then went to sleep.

The next day, it had three thousand views. Like, wow. And the page got a hundred new likes because of the video that I got. I knew it. It was meme material. The trouble I got yesterday was paid off. Mark should be proud of himself. He’s the next Eminem.

“Noice vid, m8” It was Tomato.

“Thanks. It was kinda hard to film. I actually had to ask my friend to do it.”

“You should treat him to something or at least thanks him.”

“I’m gonna.”

And yeah, I gave him a can of coke and he was happy about it.

Anyways.

I hate clichéd things.

And yet, one is happening right in front of me.

On anime series, there would always be one mysterious transfer student. And one is standing right in front of the class right now.

“I’m Alistel Ferdinand.” She said without a smile. She had dark hair and almonds for eyes.

And that was all. Ms. Dacocos told her to sit next to Rianne Gray. Which she did. And if this was ever a novel and has a title of ‘That Girl Who’s Always Alone At The Back’, Alistel just broke the sense of that title. And I think the author would be so pissed and unhappy about it. But I think her cuteness would just make all that feelings disappear.

She is indeed cute. Even Mark agrees.

Rianne tried to talk to her but she would just reply shortly.

“You two have the same wavelength,” Rianne said as she sat next to us, holding a hotdog in her hand, a cup of Sarsi on the other.

“Like, couple of the year material.” Mark added.

Rianne was silent.

And that was when Alistel sat next to Rianne. “I hope you don’t mind.”

“It’s fine.” Rianne smiled.

She did not say a word as she was eating her banana chips while holding a very thick book.

“What are you reading?” I asked.

“Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” She said without looking away from her book. And then crunched on her banana chips.

“George RR Martin, huh? Really cool. I only have the PDF’s.” I said

“Real books have curves.” Claire Svartsevich said as she sat next to me. “Am I right?”

“Yes.” Alistel said. She looked at me and then to Claire and then back to the book she was reading.

“Thanks for the spaghetti yesterday.” Claire said as she took my hand and held it tightly.

“You’re welcome….” I said as I looked at her Mercury cold eyes.

She has no emotion, like Alistel. And now I get it.

“You three have the same wavelengths.” Mark said as he was walking next to me.

The sun has already set as the stars were already out in the sky. It was a good view, to be honest.

“I’d pay to see the three of you have a threesome.” Mark said, laughing.

“I would be the luckiest guy then.” I said as I pulled out my phone and plugged my earphones on.

“See ya tomorrow, dude.” He said.

“Okay.” I said.

Just when he was gone, someone pulled my left earphone out. It was Rianne Gray.

She plugged the earphone on her left ear. “Fallin’, huh?” She smiled. “This was my first favorite song of theirs.”

And yeah, every time Fallin’ plays on my phone, I would remember Rianne Gray and her beautiful smile that night.

We didn’t chat much as I wanted to hurry to my desktop and check on the page to see if the views of the video went up, and all I ever saw was disappointment. Well, not really. It went up and so did the page’s likes. It’s kinda sad. Really. I know that that meme was good. And yet, why can’t people just appreciate shit?

“Because our page is not popular.” Tomato said.

“I guess.” I replied.

“I was with you today.”

“What?”

“I will always be with you from now on.” And after that, Tomato logged out.

What?

Okay… don’t tell me that she’s the new transfer student? Is she Alistel? That would be so cliché as fuck.
