《Torn Asunder》0 - Introduction

I was born in a strange way, I have always been told this by my mother.

You see, when I baby is born, they tend to cry, and cry, and maybe cry some more. But that wasn’t the case with me.

I was born dead.

Now, you may be wondering, how am I still alive? How are you even reading this? Well, let me explain before you get your knickers in a twist.

It is knickers, right?

Anyways, as I was saying. I was born a dead baby. Utterly silent, not even a heartbeat. The blood within me flowed though like I was alive however, and this gave my mother some hope as she held me in her tired arms.

She wanted her child alive, and like any mother about to grieve, she got her way.

The doctors took my body to an autopsy room and started to fiddle with my chubby little arms, and legs, and head. But whatever they tried didn’t make me, the baby, any less dead or more alive. But it did make my look cooler with an energy coil in my chest just above my heart, and a metal arm that helped circulate my blood, which made me lose an arm in the process.

Luckily there was a neurologist in the room. Since I remember her as the first face I looked at, she will always be the motherly figure. Despite my mother being only in the other room.

She fiddled with my tiny grey matter, removing skull fragments from it as the cause for my dead appearance was my own skull imploding.

It also just so happened, that she had her own artificial intelligence chip with her. Of course, the only reason I know these precise details is because of the chip being there, recording it all.

And so, she stuck that little bit of artificial intelligence to make.. well, me.

It wasn’t strange to have such gadgets on you in an emergency, but it still makes me wonder time to time.

Why give up something worth lots of money for my life? Surely, money is an issue with doctors being replaced with AI’s, but I was only just a baby.

Of course, I had much time to contemplate such actions as I was only a baby when I came into awareness. The chip in my brain helped me with recalling this incident. Despite my age only being an hour old, I knew things I shouldn’t even know, I remembered things that never involved myself, and I had no control over my body.

Little would I know, that this life changing incident of mine, would guarantee my survival in the future, in a world where my life would always be in danger.

And where my technology never came into existence.

This is my story, of a cybernetic maelstrom.
