"You're up early dear." Brighid cooking on a large pot wearing a normal red robe together with her 2 servant saw Ernesh walking out of his room.
Ernesh yawned, wearing a cotton white robe, he greets them. "Bright morning mother, Celia and Felina." The two servant immediately bowed and responded back to Ernesh before resuming their work. "Today marked the 5th day of my birth mother. I want to know how I improve." Ernesh said as he made a cute smile. "Alright dear. But first go and wash your face and prepare ypurself." Brighid wiped her hands before instructing the two servant to continue their duties as she went to her bedroom.
Walking inside she saw her husband still sleeping soundly. His 2 meter of a body cover most of the bed. Brighid went near and gave her husband a peck before proceeding on her drawer. She then took out a smooth blue crystal sphere around the size of an average woman's palm.
She walked out the room and went to the living room where Ernesh stood at the wall. Behind the wall there are horizontal lines cut together with a number from 1 to 4. Brighid smiled at her son and put her hands on top of his head. She made her hand as flat as it could be and her nails reached the wall. With a single swipe her hands was already at the air in less than a second and another cut line appeared on the wall. She made another 5 strokes on the wall, but to Ernesh he can only see her mother moved her hand once, and a number 5 appeared beside the line she made.
"You are growing fast dear. You are becoming a lot like your father." Brighid smiled as she brush her son's brown hair. Next Brighid bring out the crystal sphere and Ernesh placed his hands on it. After awhile the crystal grows and Ernesh put away his hands as he look at the crystal. The crystal then show a gray spherical gem. The color was a little darker which gave Brighid a smile.
"It is slow but your core is becoming clearer. Hang in there, ok Ernesh?" Brighid said looking at her son's happy face.
Ernesh on the other hand is optimistic as he look at his core. Last year his core was more darker compared to now. 'Just a bit more.'
After they were finish checking his core, Zane just woke up and greeted the two. The Family of three proceed to breakfast before Brighid went to continue cooking their special lunch. Zane on the other hand trained Ernesh using wooden swords. Afterwards with nothing left to do, Ernesh finally went to the river.

Brighid was busy cooking as lunch soon came approaching. Zane on the other hand was busy preparing the wines he is keeping. They were happy preparing for their son's special day. Brighid cooked a meat of the magical beast Boar King she got from the kingdom's trader that visited every 6 days. "Dear! Food is ready! Prepare the table we are gonna bring it on the table in a minute!" Brighid said as she instructed the two servant to carry the other pot. "Where is Ernesh? It's already lunch!" Brighid asks as she noticed knowing her son's appetite he should be here right now. "It is indeed strange. Where did that child had gone through now."
As they patiently waiting, Zane decided to go look for him but when he open the door he saw his clansmen with a worried face bump to him carrying his son. Zane immediately supported his clansmen and his son. To his surprise his son is burning hot.
"Vice-chief! We found Ernesh unconscious by the river on top of the rock!" the male clansman said wearing blue clothes and brown pants. "It was late when we noticed him because he is atop of the rock a little further from us. I'm sorry vice-chief!" The clansman explained. Zane only gave a nod and ordered their servant to prepare the bed and call for an herbalist. Brighid stopped what she was doing and immediately followed Zane to their son's room. Brighid examined him and felt his body burning up. She took out her crystal sphere and checked his core.
"His core is alright. It's not core related." She said as she heaved a small relief. Zane raised a brow misunderstanding her sigh began to question her. "Why did you assume it was his core?" he ask with a little high tone. "It's only normal to check the core what are you on about?" Brighid talked back.
"Oh, I don't know. It's not that common that a person might get sick because of his core naturaly." Zane said glaring at his wife.

"I didn't do anything to his core if that's what you are on about." Brighid shot back. "Oh? You are the one who said that you are going to raise our son's core. Despite knowing his gray core, you are so confident you can raise it. How would I know if you did something to our son! Tell me! What did you do!" Smashing the wall with his fist, Zane's eye turned red as he look at his wife.
"You think I did something to his core? Ernesh is my son! I know I said I can raise his core but I am talking about natural evolution! Why would I risk to damage our son's core!" Fire began to swirl around Brighid as she responded to Zane. The two arguing became more heated every passing second.
"ENOUGH!" An angry voice came out in between the two. "Your son is in danger and you two are fighting? What kind of parents are you?" The voice was deep and loud. The couple looked at the door and immediately hold their anger as they lower their head to greet him.
"Chief!" The two said in unison. A long gray haired male came into sight, wearing a brigandine armor made from tiger's pelt. He stood measuring to Zane's shoulder. His body is buff but not as big compairing to Zane. His face matured face show his age older than the two.
"If not for the servant sensing the urgency, you two might have destroy the house and a couple more already. Your son is sick right now so please focus on that for the time being." After the chief said it, two clansmen wearing a colorful stripped robe enter the room and began checking Ernesh.
The three sat on the corner looking at Ernesh's face showing great pain. "For the sake of clarification, Brighid answer me truthfuly. It is your son after all. Did you do something to his core?" The chief finally break the silence and began questioning.
"Chief Brant Gram of Gram, I, Brighid Ungar of Gram swears on my core and life, the only thing I give to my son are the basic physical training in improving core. By using this routine it gives the children higher rate to evolve their core to a higher tier naturally. My plan is to raise my son's core naturally since I also have some experience on it."
"Aren't most of us evolved our core naturally? Why do you say as if you have better experience about evolving core?" Brant ask.
Brighid smiled and answered. "Most children only evolve Once or twice. There are geniuses who evolve thrice 1 out of 1000000 but me, I evolved my core 4 times before reaching the age of 15."
Brant and Zane look at each other. 'Why are you looking at me isn't she your wife? You should know about this, no?' Brant thought.
'How the heck should I know! I was forcfully married to her and she is hot! All these years, her past never haunt us so there is never a case where I cared about it.' Zane thought as if the two can communicate by looking.
The two herbalist/medic gave Ernesh a white potion from a small vial. After a while Ernesh became a little relaxed. The two then reported Ernesh's state to the three. "Chief, Vice-chief, Lady Brighid." One of them began to explain. "Ernesh seems to suffer from extreme heat which gave him a headache and then weakens his body which in turn to fever." he gulped and continued. "There is one thing that I can't explain well. Given Ernesh's physique getting heat naturaly from the sun won't cause him to suffer this much also, that the temperature near the river is cool. Another, it's not yet the season of fire so I can't explain how he got it." The Chief gave a nod and dismissed the two. Chief Brant the meaning of what the herbalist said. His face bexame more serious.
"If what they said is true then there is something lurking in the shadows." The chief said looking at Zane. Brighid also knew the meaning, embraced her husband and said, "Go. Do what you have to do dear. If you catch that bastard. Don't show him any mercy. I'll be here by Ernesh side."
"Brighid, I-" Zane looked at his wife and tried to apologies when he was stopped by the her wife's finger on his mouth. She gave a simple smile and Zane gave a small nod. Doning a brigandine armor the same as Chief Brant, he took his double edged greatsword that almost stood the same height as him. The handle turned crimson as he grip the sword. The skull eye socket shined bright red as he put it on his back.
The chief was long gone the house and waiting at the stronghold along with 100 clansmen wearing leather armor and chain armor designed for puruit and better movement. Zane arrived and they made a path of him. Chief Brant proceed to explain them their mission.
"Today, We Hunt!" ,Zane roared.
"RAAAGHH!" The clansmen Roared in unison before disappearing in a second leaving behind the chief who issued the remaining clansmen to tighten their defence.

A story about the grass, and let us hope, a small bit of glory? Author note: This is a project of mine I started in 2016 and recently been writing for again. Writing for me is something I love to do, but can't always find the time for. This is also the reason I have not finished (or come close to) Ethereal Space yet. I get distracted. I started this novel intending to create something else, to break a bit with the current go to's story wise in the litRPG or virtual reality communities. So, this is my attempt at "Something different" I would love feedback or just your general opinion. But most of all, I hope it entertains. Enjoy!

Shrike
He wants to play the latest and greatest VRMMORPG game, but he can't muster up the cash for the fancy new proprietary hardware and membership license. After months of saving up cash and arduous work, he has built a behemoth of a machine relying almost entirely on seedy old technology and a DIY guide by some dude named "Jimmy Bob." This is the story of his entry into the game. This is also a story of intrigue, exploration, introspection, batshit crazy game design, and unintended but entirely predictable consequences. This is G.C.O. Undergoing a total re-write, mostly because I think things were too rushed rather than any content or direction changes. If you are one of the few who tried Shrike when it was briefly updating, consider giving it another shot. Of no relation to either The Great Crusade or the recent (in 2017 lol) Shrike book for Warhammer by Games Workshop. All similarities in these cases are superficial; please don't sue me. Feedback welcome and encouraged, never be afraid to review or comment. HQ/Kindle-Grade cover art. Book Cover 2.0: "From the Dark"
