《I can summon my past lives》12- Flashback : Chronos's deal with the {Keeper of Stories}

Under the midnight moonlights a couple could be seen sitting on the sandy beach. There was also a baby in the arms of the woman.

Looking closely. The two adults were a black man and a white woman. Both looked unordinary.

While they had assumed human form and while that may also be their real appearance, it was the twinkle in their eyes that set them apart from the rest of the world.

The man said, " Who would have thought that this day would come..."

The woman said, " What day?"

The man answered, " The day that us two gods could have a son. I never thought that such a thing was possible. I never thought I would have children in my life. With another God, no less.

The woman said "We may be from different races. But our powers comes under the same alignment. We are both...Trickster gods after all."

The man said, "It's peculiar though... with us being Trickster gods and all. So...Who tricked whom? Don't tell me it's me. You were the first person in my life I never thought of tricking. Because I loved you then and I still am crazily in love with you now."

Unbeknownst to the man, the woman then bit her lip at those words.

She then asked him, "Dear Anansi, you know, you never told me how your powers work exactly...you're only a Trickster God, how come you can seal any god from any pantheon in your book and then gain their respective powers to the point of using them better than they were used in their owner's hands?"

The Trickster God, Anansi, then replied after some time, " We've been together for a long time, so I suppose you should know now." He paused for a moment and then sighed, he continued, "You see, this power once belonged to the Sky God, my father, Nyame, of my late Pantheon...but he didn't use it the way I use it. You see, while he sought to hoard the world's best stories for himself, I sought to steal and spread them. In my rebellious youth, I discovered that while I was driven by the drive of tricking people and gods alike, it wasn't as fulfilling as it should have been. I got nothing out of it other than the sheer satisfaction of winning over a little squabble. I wanted more and my greed made me turn my sight on the Sky God and his monopoly over all stories. At that time, I thought that even the story of my entire life was in his hands, I thought I was nothing but a puppet with an already predestined future. When I asked my father to relinquish all the stories to me, he gave me four trials, which I successfully completed. When he finally gave me dominion over all the stories, him who was dubbed 'the one who sees everything' thought that I was freeing the stories from him and giving it back to the world so the people could gain wisdom. The people did gain wisdom and it happened by accident. By gaining wisdom, they started questioning the existence of the gods and started relying on themselves. They...evolved. It didn't take long for the Gods to be forgotten from the collective memory and it continued until my father, the Sky God, the creation god himself was forgotten. It was in his last moment that he realized that if he still had the power over stories he would still be alive, but it was too late and I was the last one left standing. I then became the keeper of lost stories and the lost stories became part of me...part of my power. I thought it better to keep the stories inside a medium...a book...instead of having them branded on my skin."

It was a lengthy explanation, but it was enough for his wife to understand everything.

It dawned on her that she never had any secrets that she could hide from him. Perhaps, she was thinking to much...perhaps his powers weren't that perverse.

She then mustered the strength to ask, "Did you know who I was, the first time that we met?"

Anansi then closed his eyes for a moment and then said with a hint of melancholy, "Your real name is...Loki. isn't it?"

The woman handed him his sleeping son as she shakily said, "So you already knew everything. Your powers are scary. You can see the story of anything that you lay your eyes on."

"This means that my mission was a success as well as a failure." She said with a self deprecating smile.

She looked at him in the eyes and then said, "...and still you ...loved me."

Anansi, still looking at her eyes, said, " ...but you never loved me."

"No." She said.

"Now that your mission is over, are you going to return to report to Odin, your adoptive father?" Anansi asked.

She nodded.

She looked at her sleeping son in Anansi's hands for the last time, before she looked at the sky, mumbled something and then the bifrost took her in an explosion of colorful lights.

As the bifrost disappeared, a huge explosion was heard as the dome that had protected the beach was smashed into smithereens.

The huge noise woke up the baby as it looked around curiously instead of crying or being afraid as a normal baby would have been.

Anansi stood up while holding the baby. He had an eternal smile on his face.

Anansi said, "Ô Olorun the Almighty, don't you know it's good manners to knock before you enter? Not only did you let yourself in uninvited, you even woke up my son."

A booming voice then answered, "Knocking before I entered?...THIS IS MY DIVINE KINGDOM, FOOL."

Before long, a majestic scintillating black man could be seen hovering in the sky surrounded by a dozen other black men and women.

Anansi gave a loud whistle as he said looking at his son and pointing at the newly arrived, "Little Junior. Look at the welcoming committee. He brought his sons and daughters, the entire Pantheon of this Divine Kingdom."

Olorun looked at the man and baby with bulging veins on his tattooed forehead. He was so angry that his bald head appeared even more shiny because of the rising temperature of his body. He had been on the lookout, trying to find out when this god synonymous of death, Anansi, would enter his Divine Kingdom. He had been preparing for a fight he knew he could not win. If the bifrost hadn't pierced through his Divine Kingdom and showed him this location, he would never had known where Anansi was hiding.

Olorun the Almighty was the strongest God of the Black Pantheons. The reason being, he was a creation God who was born thrice at the same time. He had two other incarnations of himself...and they could become one at a moment's notice and the increase in power wasn't as simple as being threefold.

Despite all that power, Olorun knew that he could do nothing against being stripped of his existence in the memories of the people he created.

Above the Divine Kingdom, in the void, a silhouette could be seen stealthily spectating on the fight. It was none other than Chronos, Jata Akil's son.

Chronos then thought, "It took me so long to locate father's current reincarnation between multiple timelines and universes. I almost went crazy trying to find this one. It's all good now. My plan will rely on this particular reincarnation. I've never even heard of a Trickster Domain before now and earth has more than two of them in different Pantheons. That's earth for you, no matter what timeline I visit, I always learn something new."

Back to the fight below.

Olorun's children had all died. Little tendrils of text could be seen squirming on Anansi's body and then his skin would detach itself from the body to make a page that would go in a strange black book.

Every person Anansi touched, the person's story would be printed on his body and then turned into a page that could be stored in his book.

Olorun then fused with his two incarnations.

He roared and his Divine Kingdom seemed to be on the verge of collapsing because the power he had always kept repressed was now unleashed in one go.

Anansi just looked at him roaring his lungs out and imagined if he would be the same after he stole that power.

Olorun then said, "It's over for you now." In the next second, he appeared next to Anansi and punched out with all his power.

Anansi looked at him as if he was looking at an idiot, "This moron hasn't figured out how my power works yet...well, this will be easier than expected. The most powerful God of the Black Pantheons defeated by the same punch he launched. Hehehe"

The punch connected and then Olorun started dissipating on the spot.

"Ho...how?" He asked, completely overtaken by the events.

"You must be stupid to have not realized that I only need to touch someone to steal his powers. I killed so many of your children and you were too angry to pay attention. You had a chance, but you blew it. You can only blame yourself."

Criss crossing letters appeared on Anansi's skin. Olorun's entire story was written there. It then turned into a page that went into the black book.

By then the Almighty Oloron had already vanished.

Clapping hands could be heard in sky.

Chronos descended while clapping, he said,

"That was a very good performance. Congratulations on being the only Black God left on earth."

Anansi saw a half-black half-white youth descending from the sky, "And who might you be?"

"Chronos, at your service." Chronos said with a smile as he extended his hand for a handshake.

Anansi had seen many suicidal freaks in his time, but not many like this. Didn't this mulatto already know that he would die if he touched him…"I wonder what kind of god he is."

Anansi shook hands with Chronos and then waited for the cocky smile on the youth to disappear.

The copying of abilities resumed as normal but Chronos didn't disappear.

"Surprised, aren't you? I do not need faith power to exist, but I'm still a God just like you. You need to broaden your horizons a bit. There are many ways to become a God." Chronos said.

Anansi was surprised. He then asked, "You're not from earth are you?"

"I'm from another Universe, in another timeline, you should understand what I mean since you copied me." Chronos said.

"I understand and I also know what you're here for." Anansi was now looking at his son with misty eyes.

"He's going to be alone isn't he?" Anansi said as he stopped looking at Junior.

Chronos shook his head, "As you know, he's like a brother to me, so I'll look after him until we meet again."

It wasn't advisable for him to stay on earth as all the other Pantheons of the other races were after him. If they all allied against him, he didn't know if he could still protect Junior during the fight.

His plan of delivering his people from the rule of the Gods had worked. He had no more priorities other than looking after his son.

But now he just learned from copying the young Chronos' entire life and power that he was in fact the latter's father somewhere in time and space and that he was just a reincarnation.

Chronos' grand plan was to break the Circle of Reincarnation and turn it into something never before seen…

And for that to happen he had to seal his memories, die, regain his memories while he was in the Underworld, escape reincarnation, copy a Reincarnation Lord and then copy the book of life and death. Only after all the boxes were checked would he enter reincarnation again and reunite with his sons.

Fate had made it that he was the only one who could do it…

And Fate had made it that he was also Chronos' father.
